Tb# Washington Stales baa compiled and keepa standing a list of all the mem ber! of the 36th Congresa, with their politics, postoffices, Ac. Heretofore it bee classed all the Northern Opposition mam- hers of the Heosa as "Blaok Republicans.” e have on several occasions confidently pressed the opinion that when it ceeae to a teet it wauid be found that a number of eae members were not Black Republicans, t would repadiate both Seward and Doeglas and their srhemea and doctrines; and we psrtiealarly named Messrs. Morrie of i’a., Briggs of Now York, and Corwin of Ohio, at men who were anjuaily eelled Black Republicans. We are truly glad to find that the Stales of the 16th inal. ulkorHalively sustains oa in tkie opinion. It altera ila classification of all the Opposi- members from Pennsylvania and Hew Jaraey from "Republicans” to People's Party % says that it does to by request, and adda, ‘*We are assured that none of these gentlemen will participate in' a Republican caucus.” Thia ia really belter than we had hoped for—it takes 34 Representatives of two Northern States slone from the Black Republican column, and leaves that party fries* to orgamxrf the fleuse even with the anticipated Douglas Demoeratic alliance. Mora important atill—it organises a nucleus of Norlbarn conservatism around which all the opponents of sectional agitation in that region nay rally, with a hepe of wresting several Northern Stales from the Black Republicans. Wo have agon that in a aentsst between the latter parly and tba Democracy, the Republicans have b«au Kntlly victorious, and we look upon a conservative movement of this kind as iflbiding the on*y hope of ‘'heading off” a sectional conflict that could ouly end disastrously to the South. A NaahvHlu Kdltor Killed. For several days a biller political contro versy had boon going on between Alien A. Hall, editor of the Nashville Newt, and C*ao. G. Poindexter, editor of the Union. It arose from the Unum charging Hall with having advocated the emancipation of slavery in Tennessee at a former period, and intimating that such eentimeuls incli ned him to unit, with Black Republicans. Hall retorted bitterly. Poindexter said that Hall relied open "the supposed privilege! of age te shield him fretn responsibility.” A sou of Hall commenced a hostile corres pondence with Poindexter, pending whieh Halt answered through his paper that the charge that he trusted to tke privilege* of age to shield him was false, and that ho would defend himself. Poindexter shortly afterwards went to the News offteo to eae Halt The latter, at his approach, ordered him not to advance farther at hi* peril. Poindexter continued to advance and ap peared to bo drawing a pistol. Hall iheu •hot him dead with a double-barreled gun, Poindexter’s pietcl railing by hia aide. Mr. Hall promptly gave himself up, and wat bailed to appear and aland an examination, in the sum of $5,000. rfl. i pleasure In K HEADACHE. m dose Imi |rclltrei COL . ..jnc as a preventive for > FKVKII A AGUE, OIIII.L EE VEIL anil all Fevers . of a BILIOUS type. Fuller and mors definite returns of the New York election indicate the success of that portion ef the Democratic Stale ticket supported by the Americana, by a very small msjority ever the opposing unaided Black Republican candidates. Mr. Jones, tb* Democratic and American nominee for Secretary of Btata, ia pretty surely elected by 1000 or 1300 votes; and the returns for this office have been more fully canvassed than any other. That part of the Repub lican ticket accepted by the American or Utica Convention has .probably 36,000 msjority Good ! the reporlod defeat of a portion of the American ecleetie ticket was received as a suro indication of Reward's nomination for the Presidency bf the Black Republican Convention, and of his obtaining the vote of New York. We suppose that a different result, now ascertained, will deter the Republicans from nominating Reward. At all events, it ought to convince him and hia r. — A. '.h.l ih* Amer-r.... .n.l Whig* New York held the balance of power and will exert it for the good of the whole country. This result, with »be election of Mr. Ogden in New Jereey, the repudiation of Black Republicanism by t|£ Opposition members of Congrees from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and th# heavy vote cast the other day by the Americana of Massachu. sells against on* of their own former leaders, are the most hopeful sign* that have lately • ppsared in the political hoxiion. Ou the Ki*Ut Track Now l The Richmond Whig, a abort time aince, favored a union of all the Opposition mam- bvra of the House of Ktprss.nlatives in the election of a Speaker. For this it was ssversly denounced by many Southern Democratic editars, who were horrified at the thought of uniting with Blaek Repub licans—the pious souls forgetting to say a word against Routhsrn Democratic nniou with Douglas Frseaoilsra l But the Whig baa rs-oonsidered the matter—the Harper's Ferry demonstration, no doubt, eonvlaeing it that a line policy must b. pursued that will separate the conservative from the fanatical portion of the Northern Opposi tion. It now eotnes up to the suggestion which w# mad# about a month ago, and gives it it* influential support.
