DAILY SUN. Tli nridl} Hcrnlug, Jiiut 11, 1851. Keep Cool. Now that hot weather liab set in in good earnest, our people- are beginning lo cast about for the ways and means to keep cool. We have tried several expe dients, and the most effectual that we have found is to use a plenty of Lang ford’s Ice, which he deals out to his cus tomers at his Ice House on Oglethorpe street, and of all the cold, pure and re freshing Ice, Langford “bears the gree,” at least such is the opinion of the arsar dtum* of our office, judging from the man mer in which they consume it. Give him a call, and don’t take our word for ii. City Criminal Court. The City Criminal Court adjourned yesterday, after a session of three days. In another column will be found a card from the Grand Jurors of said Court, recommending its abolishment. If, as the Grand Jurors state, the Court is un necessary, it ought to be abolished, but if it subserves any good end, and oper ates to suppres or punish crime, it ought to be continued and sustained. Let the people investigate the matter before the next meeting of the Legislature, and take such action in the premises as their wis dom may suggest and the good of the community demand. “Uncle Sam.” We had the pleasure on day before yesterday of shaking our old friend “ Uncle Sam” by the hand, and welcom ing him back to Georgia from Kansas, where he has been on a visit, to his son. He gives a glowing description of his journey and of the country, and relates many amusing anecdotes of his encoun ters with the Black Republicans, and how he talked to them. He expresses great confidence in the success of the pro slavery party at, the election which conies off next month, for delegates to the Con stitutional Convention. From his vener able appearance he was taken for a preacher all along the route, and from his own account, and from our knowledge of his good nature, and social and jovial disposition, we know he had a high old time of it generally. It, is a pity that such men as “Uncle Sam” should ever get old of wear out, for they diffuse gen eral happiness wherever they go, and make even the misanthrope forget his hatred of mankind and think the world is not so bad a world after all. He has promised us a full description of his journey and its incidents, which we will take great pleasure in laying before our readers, for we know “Uncle Sam” could not go that far without meeting with many incidents of interest. In the Leavenworth (K. TANARUS.) Herald of the 30th ult., we find the following para graph relating to his arrival in that city: “ Personal. —We had the pleasure, yesterday, of shaking hands and welcom ing to Kansas, that genuine specimen oi Georgia hospitality, ‘Uncle Sam Koocko gey,’ of Columbus, Ga. He comes, we believe, to visit his son, S. J. Koockogey, one of the Democratic nominees to a seat in the Constitutional Convention from this county. We hope his visit to the Territory may be as pleasant and profi table to him as it is agreeable to his friends.” We are indebted to “Uncle Sam” for a copy of the register of the legal voters ol Leavenworth county, Kansas Territory. The legal voters of Leavenworth county number 1837, and the entire population 5529. _ Special Notice—Citizens’ Meeting. At the reqiu-Ht of it very largo portion of the citizens of Columbia), exprcssiil to me through i. petition, I hereby cull a meeting of tile citizens, to be helU at tlie Temperance Hall, on WEDNKS DAY EVENING NEXT, the lOtli instant, at eight o'clock, P. M., for the pmpose of taking into con si eratioo the importance of grunting a junction to the vuriouu Kail Ruuds now converging in the city. F. G. WILKINS Mayor. HjT The following, from the pen of ex-Senatoi Hannigau, of Indiana, wilt he appreciated by all: ‘•We cannot refrain from calling the attention of our readers to the ••Hair Restorative 1 ’ of Prof 0. J. Wood. It wilt be seen that lie has numerous certificates from persons of the (highest character to the merits of his Restorative. From positive knowledge we are also enabled to say that it is in every sense what it professes to be, and we do not hesitate to prim .unce it the finest preparation for the herd and hair which has. so far, been devised by human ingenuity. We have seen it arrest threatened baldness, and r, store to the head its original profusion of natural anil glossy hair, and when the latter lias been prematurely tinged with gray, we have seen it, like magic, restore the colors of youth and health. The distinguishing property of this, we might truly say, miraculous •• Restora tive” is, that it gives to the person who uses it tin same head of hair they wore in youth, tints acting in strict compliance witli the first and gnutest of all toilet makers—Nature. No one who lias used it will hesitate to unite witli us in this testimony to its peculiar merit.” —Ctndngtnn (hid.)
