Campbell Minstrels
This popular Company gave one of their
inimitable concerts at Temperance Hall,
last night, to a large and delighted audi
tory. Their music, both vocal and instru
mental, exhibited the very first order of
talent —their extravaganzas were side
splitting, and their jests and witticisms
sparkling and pungent. When nil acquit
ted themselves so well it would appear in
vidious to discriminate. This troupe al
together, is one of the best that hus ever
visited our city, and they gave last night
unc of the most amusing entertainments
we have witnessed lor a long time. They
perform again to-night, for the last time
iu our city, with an entire change of pro
gramme.

The LaGrange Reporter says: “Our
ladies are not so far behind the spirit of
the age. When a young gentleman pro
poses to ride them out, [What! the la
dies ? ride ladies! our gents, down here
ride horses, not ladies—that’s worse than
plowing females in Scotland] he sends
around his buggy, enclosing his card
and servant, [what does he enclose his
servant in ?] has the young lady com
pressed into reasonable size, [who does
the compressing ? We rather think we
shall go to LaGrange after all, and vol
unteer our services in the compressing
business,] places his driver on the horse's
head-gear, has her [the lady ?] driven
around to her heart’s content.” The
barbarians! Riding and driving young
ladies like so many horses, and compress
ing them like so many cotton bags. The
boys about Columbus are guilty of a
great many peccadilloes, and occasion
ally of a considerable misdemeanor, but
they never do anything as bad as that—
never!
Filibusterism.
A Houston (Texas) paper announces
that it is collecting material for the histo
ry of filibusterism. The Galveston Her
ald refers the editor to Capt. Forbes Brit
tan, of Corpus Christ, who says that
Moses and Jesus Christ were filibusters.
A cargo of teas, a direct importation
from China, was sold at auction at Mon
treal last week at prices considerably be
low New York rates.
