LY BUN. Monday Nornlug, June 251, 1851. “ Picayune Butler 1 Coming.” It will be seen by reference to another column, that this celebrated individual is coming at last, and that he will give two of his popular entertainments at Temper ance Hall, beginning to-night. His en tertainments are both unique and inter esting, if we are to judge from the notices | of the press where he has performed. The following letter from one of the best and most scientific planters in Cham bers County, Alabama, came to hand on Saturday: Chambkhs Cos., Ala., June 19, ‘57. Ed. Daily Sun: —You seem to manifest considerable interest in the prospect of the Cotton crop; I have, therefore, thought proper to send you the following. Referring to my day-book, I find I had Cotton blooms here, on my plantation, ns follows: In 1841 June 18. In 1850 June 22. *< 1842 “ 9. “ 1851 “ 12. 1848 “ 22. “ 1852 “ 17. •< 1844 “ 6. “ 1853 “ 15. 1845 “ 9. “ 1854 “ 24. 1846 “ 18. “ 1855 “ 14. “ 1848 “ 16. “ 1856 “ 24. This year the crop is considerably later than ever known bef< re. I cannot pos sibly have a cotton bloom before the first of July, and they will then be very scarce. Potting Strawberries. Mr. Rivers, in London, raises strawber ries in pots by a peculiar process, thus described: About the second week in Ju ly, he says, he filled a number of six inch pots with a compost of two-thirds loam, uni! one-third rotten dung, as follows; three stout pieces of broken pots were placed in the bottom, and a full handful of the compost putin; a stout wooden pestle was then used with all the force ol a man’s arm to pound it, and then anoth er handful and a pounding, and another, till the pot was brimfull, and the com pressed mould as hard as a barn floor.— The pots were then taken to the strawber ry bed and a runner placed in the centre of each, with a small stone to keep it steady. They were watered in dry wea ther, and have had no other care or cul ture. For two or three years I have had the very finest crops, from [lants after this method, and those under notice prorn ise, well. If the pots are lifted it will be apparent that a large quantity of food is in a small space. I may add that from some recent experiments with compressed earth to potted fruit trees, I have a high opinion of its effect, and I fully believe that we have yet much to learn on the subject. Getting Frlglitened by tlie Cornet^ The Trenton State Gazette says that a woman residing in Ocean co., N. J., was frightened to death last week by the idea of the comet! At night she saw a light from a large fire in the pines, and was immediately possessed with the idea that it was the comet, that the earth was on fire, and about to be destroyed. Her alarm was so great that she was thrown into convulsions, from the effects of which she died on the same night. JUST ARRIV ED. 10 DOZ. Pine Apples; Oranges, Lemons, 20 I\J bunches Bananas, 5 bbls. Chapped Hands, or any diseases that are sore and painful, is the only article ever brought before the public that will do its work perfectly in from three to twenty minutes—has been used by thousands and pronounced to be the best remedy ever discovered. This Oil acts on the system with electricity—is of pure vegetable preparation. Not the slightest danger of applying it outwardly or inwardly. It at once gives a permanent cure—in most cases from ten to twenty minutes. The best physiologists of Europe have discovered that all organic derangement of the animal system is the effect of an obstruction of the physico-electric fluid in the organ diseased. A skillful application of this Oil puts in immediate motion the nerve fluid, and the cure is at once accomplished. No bleedings—no vomiting, purging or blistering is resorted to.
