DA-11-Y STJJN^ Saturday Morning, July 11, 185 T. ‘‘Sound on th© G-oobo Question.*’ A correspondent of the Savannah News, in speaking of the late Military Encampment at the State Capital, pays the “Columbus Guards” and “City Light Guards” a very high compliment for su perior military accomplishments, and in cidentally remarks that they are pecu liarly “sound upon the goose question.” Wonder if the remark has any connection with the mysterious disappearance of the Governor’s pet goose ? How is it, boys ? Gen. Walker at Nashville. Gen. Wm. Walker arrived at Nashville on Monday evening last. He was receiv ed at the depot by a very large crowd, and made a brief speech of thanks. Important Legal Question Settled. The hirer of a slave, under a general contract of hire, is guilty of a conversion if he hire said slave to another during the term of hire, without the consent of the owner, and is liable in an action of trover for his value. [3 Sneed, p. 275.] This luestion has never before been adjudged in Tennessee, and ought now to be known and understood by all concerned in hiring slaves. Tho owner may be willing to en trust his slave to one man on account of his humanity, or for other reasons; but to another he would not hire for double wages. The owner has the absolute right to choose the temporary master for his slave and if this temporary muster shall hire him to another, that act is of itself a conversion of the property, and the owner may at once sue for the slave’s value. But if after this act of sub-hiring the owner acquiesoe directly, or by acts im plying acquiescence, the right to sue is waived. —Athens (Term.) Post. —— LOOK OUT! July 11, 1857-71 JOHN KELLER. A RARE CHANCE TO MAKE uuEoisriErsr r |IHE undersigned has, at a great deal of expense, I collected together the following valuable Re cipes, &c., for several of which he has paid sls each, and lie has no idea that any one can possibly fail to make, in a short time, an independent liv ing by selling them. Some of them originally cost SSO, and several of them yet sell, to business men, and the afflicted, for that amount. All wdio wish to procure them, either for their own use or to sell again, can receive the entire lot enumerated below, by return first mail, post paid, by sending the un dersigned only one dollar: A recipe for making the celebrated Gold and Silver Counterfeit Detector. A recipe for making the best Black, Blue and Red Inks, and Indelible Inks of all colors. A recipe for making the celebrated Oil Paste Blacking. A recipe for making the celebrated Washing Fluid, which will enable one to wash more clothes in one hour than in twelve the ordinary way, and with scarcely any labor; it is adapted .to wash all kinds of fabrics, silks and woolens, as well as lin ens; it also sets colors rather than removes them. A recipe for making the best Matches. A recipe for making the best Cologne, and the renowned Hair Invigorator, which is the very best thing for the hair ever discovered. A recipe for making the hair curl most beauti fully, and also to change hair from light or sandy color to black. A recipe for making the very best quality of Shaving Soap. A recipe for renjoving Freckles, Tan, and Sun burn from the face and hands. A recipe for keeping Butter from becoming ran cid for four or five years. A recipe for the certain cure of Diafrhea and Flux. A recipe for the certain cure of Cancer. A recipe that instantly cures the most severe Toothache. A recipe for the certain cure of Consumption, bronchitis, Coughs, Colds and General Debility. A recipe for the certain cure of Ague and Fever, and Fits of all sorts; this recipo may be considered infallible, as it has never been known to fail. A recipe for tempering and polishing edged tools, which has been sold in this neighborhood for S4O. We will also give Dr. Reese’s Discovery, by tho sale of which ho advertises a man can make SCO per month; also Prof. Williamson's two ways of making from $7 to sl4 per day; and Mr. J. Cook’s way of making from 500 to 2000 per cent., as ad vertised by him in different newspapers. W'o will also send a lot of other valuable recipes, too tedious to mention, which we have printed, the entire lot embracing all the valuable recipes, and ways to make money, ever advertised in the Uni ted States. We are well assured that no one will ever regret sending one dollar to procure all the above named valuable information; for if some should not feel disposed to sell to others, they would still save, every year, many times the amount of the cost, by being able to make these articles instead of having them to buy ; and the ingredients used in forming them cost comparatively nothing, so little in fact, that one who manufactures to sell can, in many cases, make from 7000 to 8000 percent, profit. HOWELL EUREKA OIL, | THE GREATEST DISCOVERT OF THE AGE. THE undersigned is now preparing one of the greatest blessings ever known to the human family, via: “EUREKA OIL.” Os the virtues ot this Oil, there are hundreds who have been cured by its use, can testify. It has never been known to fail to cure or relieve any of the following com* ; plaints, incident to the human family, viz: Ulcer -1 ated Sore Throat, Sore Mouth, Sore Eyes, all pains j in the Limbs and Joints, all Sprains or Strains, Swollen Feet or Limbs, old Sores of every charac ! ter v fresh Cuts or Burns, sore Breasts or Nipples, I and has been successfully applied to Cancers, and I in cajes where it has been used, cures have *>een I effected; aud in all pains, whenever applied, it I has relieved the persons applying it. The subscriber does not claim to be the disco • verer or inventor of this Oil, but lias known its value for many months, and holds it to be a duty he owes the human family, to prepare and offer it for general use. The Oil is for sale by DANFORTII, NAGEL & CO. and A. K. AYKIt, at $2.00 per bottle for the large size; the other in proportion. The money in all cases where it does not relieve or cure, will be refunded. This is no humbug. TRY IT. G. W. CROAFT. Columbus, June 3d, 1857. | Dr.G.W. CROAFT: Dear Sir —1 take pleasure in informing you ot the unprecedented success of your Oil. In not a single instance has it failed t • effect (if not a per fect cure) the most salutary good, uud I shall be compelled to call ou you for more. One of our best druggists was induced, from my statement of its effectual cure of sore nipples, to use it on his lady, who was suffering from a risirg on her breast, and he says he would not take one hundred dollars for tho immediate and entire relief it gave her, and he is willing to£ive his certificate at any time. Very Respectfully, A. K. AYER. Columbus, Oa., June 22, 1857. This certificate is to show that I have used the Eureka Oil in several instances among negroes, viz. for Pains, Rheumatism, Scrofulous Affections, Tooth and Head Ache. It is one of the greatest medicines now in use. It acts like a charm. C. 0. SMITH. Columbus, Ga., June 22, This is to certify that I have used the Eureka Oil on a Ring or Tetter Worm, which made its ap pearance on my face. I was induced to try the Eureka Oil, which produced entire and speedy cure iu a few’ days. WM. L. STAPLER. Columbus, Ga., May 13,1857. Mr. G. W. CROAFT: Dear Sir—l take pleasure iu statiug to you, that although 1 at first had but little confidence in the efficacy of the Oil or Mixture you gave me, 1 used it in two cases in ray family—one of swollen legs oi a servant girl, of long standing, which were redu ced to nearly their natural size in a few hours; and the other a cracked or very sore nipple, which was cured with a few applications, after Dr. De- Gratli’s Electric Oil, and many other remedies, had failed. Yery Respectfully, A. K. AYER. Columbus, Ga., June 23, 1857. It is due to every mother that she should hear that the Eureka Oil will speedily relieve the pain and reduce the inflammation of the breast and nipples. Only one application is required to prove its great value. A lady of thfa city, for whom I procured a vial, says it relieved her immediately, and cheerfully commends its use to others. June 24tf O. DANFORTH. Atlanta, Ga., June 6, 1857. Mr. G. W. CROAFT: Dear Sir: —This is to certify that we have (ac cording to your request) made a fair trial of your Eureka Oil in our dispeusary practice, in several cases in which such a medicine appeared indicated, and cheerfully recommend and believe it to be a superior article iu those diseases for which it is recommended on the labels. It has never failed to benefit in any trial that we have made with it. and in our hands it has effected cures in a much shorter time, with less pain and inconvenience to the patient, than any other rem edy we could have prescribed. Yours tiuly, Drs. DIGGERS & GUILD. SOMETHING TO SUIT THE SEASON.
