DAI LYSUN. Tuesday Horning, Sept. 1, 185 7. Chattahoochee Bitters. Capt. F. Burrus has placed upon our table o bottl’epf the above incomparable bitters manufactured by himself. Some of the attaches of our office having fewer conscientious scruples about “touching the unclean thing” than ourself, have tried it, and prououhce it to be equal to any of the patent nostrums of Northern manufacture. If you want a tonic try it. For Apalachicola. The steamer Laura’s barge “Mary” will leave for Apalachicola and interme diate landings on Friday, Sept. 4th. Insurance guaranteed. New Advertisements. Mr. 0. W. Atkinson has associated with himself Mr. James Taylor, in the mercantile business. In a short time they will remove to the store recently oo cupied by Mr. A. Hunter, when they will open just such a Stock as Atkinson knows how to lay in. We need not say, to the ladies especially, give them a call. We would call attention to the adver tisement of Messrs. Smith & Wagnon, in another column. Persons having busi ness in their line may safely entrust it to them, with the assurance that it will be promptly and faithfully attended to. The cash system is the safest and best for the buyer and seller. Messrs. Marcus and Ragland having come to the same conclusion have determined to adopt it Irom henceforth. See advertisement. It will be seen that Mrs. M. E. Gray opened on yesterday a school at her resi dence for both sexes. Mrs. Gray has taught in this city before, and always with great success and satisfaction to her patrons. Those who patronize her will subserve their own interest, as her sys tem is thorough and the advancement of her pupils very rapid. For tho Daily Sun. Messrs. Editors: There is a very neces sary job of work wanting to be done to tlie ditch running along the north-west ern part of the city, back of the lots oc cupied by Messrs. Hardaway, Watt, and others. It has grown up in grass in many places, and creates pools of stag nant water. This ditch should be at tended to at once, as the fall season is always propitious for chills and fever, and these pools of water, with decaying vegetation in them, will help to a consid erable degree in foisting these unwel come visitors upon us. It is true that one will give you a most hearty shake, and the other smothers you with warm embraces. I suppose, however, that the families living in that neighborhood de sire none of the socialities of these guests. This being understood, let our city mar shal give this locality a looking after, and thereby receive the thanks of the denizens of “Possum Ridge.” Pink. AT PRIVATE SALE. BY HARRISON & PITTS. AFFLICTED, READ!—I called to see u lady from Alabama, who had come to Atlanta on a visit. When 1 entered the room, I found her sitting in a chair with the glands of her neck so much swolleu and in Mamed that she could not turn her head to the right or left, to speak so as to be heard across the room. 1 prevailed with her to try Eureka Oil. She conseuted, aud commenced by rubbing it well ou the throat, and gargling frequently, and to my great astonishment, in three days she pronounced herself effectually cured, aud left for Alabama with a good supply of the justly celebrated Eureka Oil. Sold only, in Atlanta, by S. J. SHACKLEFORD, Solo Agent. TRY IT, EVERYBODY!—A lady in this city who was awfully aillicted with inflammatory rheu matism from the bottom of the left foot up the same limb and side, both shoulders, and down the arm to the ends of her fingers; could not walk, but lay in bed toruieutod with the most excrucia ting pain, day and night. I recommended her to try the Eureka Oil. She readily agreed to do so, and commenced rubbing it on the surface three or four times a day, and in about five days she was entirely relieved of inflammation aud pain. I was an eye witness of the wonderful effects of this Oil, and affirm th<*above to be substantially true. S. J. SHACKLEFORD, Agent. CHISHOLM A ADAIR’S OFFICE, Atlanta, August 17, 1857. Dr. G. W. Franklin brought electricity from the heavens to earth, but it remained for Prof. DeGrath to ap ply that electricity to tho relief of diseased and suffering mortals—diseases that heretofore Imflled the physicians’ old treatment, such as Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Pains, Stiff Joints, Dcnfties.'', Swel lings, Palsy, Piles, Skin Diseases, Ac., are now cured by Prof. DeGrath s electric oil in one and two days. Read this letter from a Physician who has practised since 1826—(too well known lor com ment) : Prof. DkGrath, Philadelphia. Sir—At intervals, during thirty years past, my wife has been subject to rheumatism of the most violent cast—say four times a year—sometimes so severe as to make it necesßaiy to administer large doses of tho tincture of guiacum and morphia, and to rock her like an infant in a largo rocking ohair, to induce any repose, lluviug frequent correspon dence with my son, (No. 103 Chestnut street, of your city,) 1 informed him of an attack she had about tho middle of last month, [January] which was of such severity as to completely paralyse the system. He, In his anxiety for his mother’s wel fare, sent me a bottle of your Electric Oil; but as I am one of the practitioners of medicine.in our place, and not a proselyte to any kind of patent medicine, 1 did hesitate to give it a trial; however, on reflection, I concluded to try it, which 1 did, in ptrtrna, directly up to the letter, aud after the third or fourth application she became rather pas sive, anil before ono-third of the bottle was used, not a single vestige of tho disease remained in the system, and she still continues well, although she rode out a distance of fourteen miles, without a renewal of any of tho symptoms, i therefore feci it my duty, for the sake of suffering humanity, and also fully believing that merit, under all circum stances, should be rewarded, to forward this testi monial. 1 am yours, truly, Joseph P. LEBRUN offers to those suffering from deafness, his infallible nurul remedies, which have boen successful in neurl}’ three tliuusuml cases of confirmed deafness! These remedies have been pronounced by Drs. Khramer, of Berlin, aud lleleuu, of Baris, slid Curtis I’ilelier, of London, ns the most wonderful ever applied for diseases of in ternal and middle cur. they comprise different courses for the various diseases that afiuct the ex ternal aud middle ear. Dr. Lebrun warrant* a cure in evert/ case, where the ear is perfect in ils formation. He has eighteen certificates from those who have been deaf from infancy, whose hearing is now completely restored, and they are now ena bled to learn the language! Over twenty-seven hundred eases of deafness have been successfully treated by him. Certificates to that effect may be seen on application. In all cases of deafness arising from inflamma tion, thickening, or even perforation of the ‘ niem braua tympani,’ usually called tho ‘drum;’ intlam matiou ul mucous membrane of file tympanum and custadiain tube, with accumulation of mucus; nervous affections, polypus growths, Ac., or when the disease can be traced to scarlet, typhus, bilious or intermittent fever, colds, the use of quinine or mercurial medicines, gatherings in the ears of childhood. Ac., the sense can, in nearly eveiy in stance, be restored. When a want of secretion is apparent, the ‘auditory canal’ being dry and scaly; when the deafness is accompanied with noises in the ear, like rustling of leaves, chirping of insects, falling water, ringing of hells, pulsa tions, discharge of matter; when in a stooping position a sensation is felt as if n rush of blood to the head had taken place: when the hearing is perfectly acute where theie is much noise, or less acute iu dull, cloudy weather, or when cold lias been taken, the eomse pursued by Dr. Lebrun is considered infallible. Dr. DUFTON, the only practitioner iu the United States who practices the new", painless, and suc cessful method in treating all diseases to w hich the Kye is subject, where every other menus have failed to afford relief; he asks from such a fair and impartial taial. Patients sending a few particulars of their case, can have remedies sent to any part. TESTIMONY. “We the undersigned, practitioners Df medicine in the city of New York, having lmd occasion to witness the practice of Drs. Lebrun and Dutton, in diseases of the Ear and Eye, laying aside all pro fessional jealousy and prejudice, freely admit the course pursued by them in treating diseases of those delicate organs, from the unparalleled suc cess whicli has attended it, is well worthy the at tention of our professional brethren throughout the United States. Their system of treating disea ses of the middle and internal ear, by the use of ■medicated vapors.’ particularly in chronic and complicated eases, forms anew era in the practice of aural surgery, and fills up a void which lias long been felt by tho general practitioner, in diseases of the eye, they seldom require to resort to an op eration. As skillful Aurists ami Oculists, and en thusiastically devoted to their profession, we cor dially recommend them to such us may require their aid.’’ Signed, At.EXANiit.it K. Mott, M. D. Geobue S.
