daily stjjn . Friday Morning, Sept. 11, 1837. Serions Casualty. Wo regret to learn that on Wednesday evening a little boy, aged about six “years, son of Mr. George W. Martin, of our city, was kicked on the forehoad by a horse, auJ so seriously injured, that doubts are entertained of his recovery. The little fellow, we understand, was playing with the horse’s tail, when the animal kicked him, ol’ course not being aware of tho danger he was incurring. We sincerely hope that his injuries are not so serious as it is feared they are. Serious Accident. We are pained to learn that on Wed nesday evening Mrs. Neuffer, an elderly and highly esteemed lady of our city, was run over by a buggy, and painfully, though we are glad to state, not. seriously injured. It appears that she was cross ing Broad street, near the market house, in company with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. beach, when Mr. John Beaumont came along in his buggy, driving at a very fast gait, and before Mrs. Neuffer could get out of the way, one of the shafts of the buggy struck her, knocking her down, and running over her, rendering her for a time insensible. She was immediately conveyed to a house near by and properly cared for, and sometime after dark she was able to be conveyed home, and we are pleased to learn is doing as well as the nature of her wounds could justify the hope. When there is so much rapid driving through our streets, the great wonder is that there do not more acci dents occur than do, and we think, if there is not already an ordinance against it, there should be, and it. should be rig idly enforced. Renewed Obligations. Our poetical, mythological, and scien tific cotemporary of the Enquirer has placed us under renewed obligations for the valuable information he has furnished us as to the authorship of the quotation, “A thing of beauty,” &c. If he will now tell us who struck Billy Patterson, and whether he endorses Mr. Elam’s Free Trade doctrines, we will try to avoid putting him to further trouble for our enlightenment. Georgia Sugar. Dr. Daniel Lee, Terrel professor of Ag riculture in Franklin College, has just shown us a very beautiful specimeu of su gar, made from the Chinese sugar cane, on the plantation of Mr. W. J Eve, near this city. The entire process, from the cutting of the cane to the completion of the boiling, occupied but about three hours, and the result is a fine specimen of chrystalized sugar. Dr. Lee thinks that from one to two thousand pounds of sugar can be produc ed to the acre, on Georgia land, of mod erate richness. The richest lands are not, he thinks, best adapted to the culture of the cane. The specimens of syrup notic ed yesterday, and of the sugar mentioned above, prove beyond all doubt that we can produce sugar and molasses on our farms, equal in flavor to any other made. —Auguita Ditpatch. A Chicago Millionaire. Eighteen years ago, E. R. Ward, the millionaire of Chicago, sailed a small schooner on the lakes. In 1845, he took command of a craft of 300 tons, which was the commencement of WTard’s Lake Superior Line. Within the last sixteen years, he has paid to shipbuilders and other mechanics, to employers and labor ers, more than two and a half millions of dollars. In the brief period of sixteen years, he has accumulated over and above all liabilities, a fortune of a million and a quarter. For some years he had intimate and complicated business connections with the Michigan Central Railroad, in volving millions of dollars, and the trans actions were all based on a verbal agree ment between Mr. Brooks, the Superin tendent of that road and himself. No written contract ever existed between them, each relied on the honor and in tegrity of the other, and neither were dis appointed. DIED, la this city, ftt the residence of H. J. Croft A Co.— Dear Sirs—With pleasure 1 inform you that I have made three applications of your Eu eka Oil in my case, (inflammation of the neck of tho bladder and urethra). I believe a cure has been effected, though I have not complied strictly with your dilections. 1). L. GORDON. AFFLICTED, READ!—I called to see a lady from Alabama, who had come to Atlanta on a visit. When I entered tho room, I found her sitting in a chair with the glands of her neck so much swollen and inflamed that she could not turn her head to the right or left, to speak ho as to be heard across the room. I prevailed with her to try Eureka Oil. She consented, and commenced by rubbing it well on the throat, and gargling frequently, and to my great astonishment, iu three days she pronounced herself effectually cured, and left for Alabama with a good supply of the justly celebrated Eureka Qil. Sold only, in Atlanta, by S. J. SHACKLEFORD, Sole Agent. TRY IT, EVERYBODY!—A lady in this city who was awfully afflicted with inflammatory rheu matism from the bottom of the left foot up tho same limb and side, both shoulders, and down the arm to the ends of her fingers; could not walk, but lay in bed tormented with the most excrucia ting pain, day and night. I recommended her to try the Eureka Oil. Sho readily agreed to do so, and commenced rubbiug it on tho surface three or four times a day, and iu about five days nho was entirely relieved of inflammation aud pain. T was an eye witness of the wonderful effects of this Oil, and affirm the above to be substantially true. S.J. SHACKLEFORD, Agent. CHISHOLM & ADAIR’S OFFICE, Atlanta, August 17, 1857. Dr. G. W.
