The annual municipal election for May- | or, Council and other officers of this city, ! came off on Saturday, and resulted in the re-election of Wilkins, for Mayor; Hughes, | for Marshal; Robinson, for Deputy Mar- j shal; Stratton, for Clerk of Council; the; election of Robert G. Mitchell over John i Lloyd, present imeumbent. For Aldermen—ln the First Ward, Phil- j ip H. Alston was elected, Gray and Me- ’ Arthen, tied. Second Ward—Vernoy and Freer. Third Ward—Eastham and Kyle. Fourth Ward—Smith and Barschall. Fifth Ward—Walker and Thompson. Sixth Ward—Brown aud Durkin. We have not been able to get the vote in all tne wards, but understand the old officers re-elected received decided ma jorities, that of Wilkins being 154 over all opponents. The case of Green, for the killing of Doles, an account of which we published a few weeks ago, was brought up for trial on Friday, and the Court was eugaged all day Friday, and until a late hour Saturday, in hearing the evidence and argument. The case was submitted to the Jury about sun set, and they had not rendered a verdict when we went to press late last evening. Lecture on Mount Vernon. Let our readers bear in mind that to night Mr. A. 11. 11. Dawson will deliver his very eloquent and chaste lecture, in aid of the Mount Vernon Association Fuud The newspaper press, wherever he lias lectured, teem with praises of both the matter and manner of delivery of his lecture, aud class it among the literary gems of the age. The proceeds of the lecture will bo turned over into the hands of the Ladie’s Mount Vernon Association, of Georgia, which is acting in connection with other similar Societies, in raising the necessary funds to purchase the “Grave of Wash ington,” and make it a gift to the nation, instead of private property. A misapprehension of Mr. Dawson’s mission has in some places prevented his audiences from being ns large as they have uniformly been where the facts are better understood. Same suppose his object is to receive contributions and subscriptions, and, because they did not wish to be dunned in hard times, have absented themselves from the lecture.— This is a mistake. He would not receive a contribution if one were offered. His object is to present the facts that consti tute the history and the claims of the Mt. Vernon Association in a clear light, and leave them to battle their own way. The ladies of each community are expect ed to form a Mt. Vernon Association, and take charge of the task of obtaining con tributions. Such a result has followed from his address in very many places, and it vests with the ladies of Columbus io say what is to become of the cause here. The ladies are especially invited to attend, as Mr. Dawson wishes to enlist them in behalf of the enterprise, and therefore they will not only be admitted free, but their presence will much gratify the speaker. Gentlemen will be charged only the nominal admittance fee of twenty-five cents. The lecture will be delivered at Tem perance llall, commencing at 7 o’clock, A- M. Gentlemen can procure tickets of admission either at the Book Stores or at the Perry House. 0-A.mD mxjsrTiisra-.
