number of Harper’s Magazine. It is printed from
early sheets —received from the Author in advance
of publication in England—for which the Publish
ers pay Mr. Thackeray the sum of Two Thousand
Dollars.
Mr. Charles Reade's New Story, entitled “Jack
of all Trades—A Matter of Fact Romance,” written
exclusively for Harper’s Magazine, is also com
menced in the present number.
Mrs. Gaskell, Author of •• Mary Barton,” has be
come a contributor to Harper’s Magazine, and a
thrilling story from her vigorous pen will appear
iu the January Number.
