TRIUMPH OF MECHANISM.
AMERICANWATCHES.
rpHESK Watches are produced by the same sys
tern that has made American Fire-Arms the
best in the world. It substitutes the rapidity and
precision of machinery for the slow and unrelia
ble results ot handicraft. The factory consists of
a series of machines devised expressly for this es
tablishment, each of which works true to exact
ness, turning out each part m> as to be an accurate
fit in any one of a thousand watches. Absolute
precision of time is nearly attained by these
watches, ns the inev.table result of their simplici
ty and exactness of structure. Tim ease of their
repair is obvious, as the makers have always on
hand, for sale, tho different parts of the watch
perfectly finished, to repair damages.
Besides the watch heretofore offered to the trade,
wears now making a second quality, inferior to
the lirst only in having les* finish iu immaterial
parts and a lighter case. This we offer at a price
so moderate as to ho within the means of every
class, and we recommend it as sound and reliable,
and greatly superior to imported watches of equal
price
The trade are cautioned against English and
Swiss imitations with which the country is flood
ed. Each of our best Watches is engraved on the
plate, Api'Lkton, Tracy A Cos., Waltham , and
is accompanied with a certificate of genuineness
and perpetual warranty, over our own signature.

(PER ARABIA.)
From our Telegraphic Correspondent:
New York, March 31, ’6B.
Tho market, on receipt of the tele
gruphio advices per Niagara, on Friday
last, was very irregular, and sales wero
reported of occasional lots at from j to \
decline. Tho parties who sold at this re
duction, however, done so mainly from
fright, and when the market was cleared
of these lots, it was found that no further
purchases could be made, except at the
full rates current previous to the Niaga
ra’s arrival. Our market since, there
fore, has been in a comparatively steady
condition, and dosed last eveniug with no
apparent desire to sell, notwithstanding
we were in receipt of the accounts per
City of Baltimore, advising a further de
cline of J of a penny at Liverpool and a
wretched trade in Manchester. Tho bus
iness of Saturday was 1,500 bales; Mon
day, 2,000, and ycstcrdayJ(Tucsday) fiOO.
At the close Inst evening,
generally agreed upon the following range
of figures:
Middling Orleans 12J.
Middling Mobile 12J.
Middling Uplands 12.
In Sterling there bus been more firm
ness, but the transactions have not been
large. Banker’s bills are now held at
107jj to 1 OH.), with the principal sales at
108. Commercial bills are quoted from
7 to 71 per cent. Francs are dull at
of. 171 to sf. 20.
The Money market is without special
change ; if anything the amount offering
is somewhat iu excess of last week, while
borrowers do not show a corresponding
increase.
The Bunks have increased their loans
over one and a half millions duriDg tbe
week, but the specie line shows another
reduction of nearly one million, leaving
the balance on bund $30,920,000.
Stocks have not yet regained their
buoyancy, and there arc at present no in
dications that they will do so. At tbe
smite time, reliable dividend securities
i i mly bold their own.
Freights are steady, at 3-10 for Cotton
to Liverpool, and Ac. to Havre.
Tho next steamer from this sido will
be the Fulton, on the 3d of April.
The Southern Mail is through from all
points as late as due.
Very respectfully, F. A. A.
I*. >S., 4 p. in.—{Since the receipt of the
Persia’s advices, which reached us at an
early hour this morning, tho Cotton mar
ket lias become very much unsettled, nnd
sales have been made at a decline off to
Ac. The business of the day has been
confined to 500 bales, prices too irregular
to quote.
.Sterling closed firm at 7ij to 8J for
Bunker’s bills, and 7 lo 8 for Commercial
signatures.
The Arabia took $5,278 in specie.

Extract from Circular of Neill Bros. &
Cos., dated New York, March 30, 1858:
Receipts.— Tbe week’s receipts show a
greater falling off’ than wo expected. In
our last, we estimated tlie total for this
week ut 110,000 bales, desiring to keep
ou the safe side. It proves but 98,000 at
ull ports, ail iucrease of but 41,000 bales
on tlie corresponding week last year.—
For the past five weeks the deliveries
have been as follows; 148,000, 117,000,
131,000, 125,000 and 98,000 bales. For
the succeeding week, to appeur in our
next table, there will probably be a fur
ther falling oft', as though at New Orleans
the receipts are about equal to the previ
ous week ; at Mobile, they have fallen to
12,000 bales, against Hi,ooo tbe previous
week, and 30,000 a few weeks ago.—
Meantime, tho deficiency upon last year
is still 240,000 bales ; and we should yet
have to pull up 200,000 hales of this to
make tho crop up lo 2,900,000 bales.—
The deficiency at New Orleuns will short
ly disappear, good roads having been ta
ken advantage of for some timo past to
transport wlmt remains to tbe river land
ings, and till tiiis is quite exhausted, re
ceipts will be well supported. The fall
ing off will probably soon be very decided
ut that point, nnd at others it will con
tinue in the gradual course it has already
assumed.
Exports. —The weekly exports and
consumption have at last overtaken anil
gained upon the receipts. To Great
Britain, they amount to 71,000 bales for
the past week, und the deficiency in the
total supply sent thither is now reduced
to 20,000, the total since Ist September,
amounting to 931,000 bales, against 949,-
000 last year, and 1,134,000 in 1850.
For France, 14,000 bales have cleared,
and to other foreign ports, 0,000. But
ilie operations of home consumers have
now become an important item. During
tbe week they have taken 31,000 bales,
against 15,000 lust year ; nnd their total
takings for so far, amount to 208,000
bales, against 515,000 to tbe sumo time
lnst.year. For the remainder of the sea
son they are likely to be larger buyers
Ilian last year, or than has usually been
the case after this period, as the resump
tion of work has made considerable pro
gress during the last fortnight, and the
manufacturers hold less than one-fourth
part of their ordinary stocks. The result
of the present rate of demuud is, that the
stock has alrcndy commenced to fall off',
being reduced during tho week from 797,-
000 to 773,000 bales. The decrease will
soon bo much more decided, as there are
now 110 vessels loading at the .Southern
ports for Great Britain ; 10 for France,
and 34 for other foreign ports. Tho
week's clearances for Great Britain, by
telegram from New Orleuns and Mobile
jointly, are only 33,000 bales.
Supply and Consumption.— During the
Inst few weeks, many of the mills recent
ly idle, or running short time, have re
commenced full work Allowiug, more
over, for the fact, that spinners have not
laid in stocks, ns they usually do before
this period, we look from this out for a
larger trade demand thuu last year, ni
nny recent previous year. In Rhode Is
land and elsewhere, there are still many
mills standing, but it is probable that tbe
majority will be at work during tbe
spring, und as it is estimated that there
lire now about 200,0H0 bales less cotton
held by manufacturers than at this timo
Inst year, it is apparent that they are
likely to be active competitors for the re
mainder of the crop.
Thu .tuck iu thu purt. i. now 773,000 halt.
