DAILY SUN. Moltilny Horning, April 20, 1858. We are indebted to the politeness of Capt. S. 11. Hill, of Hamden’s Express, for late Nashville papers, in advatieo of the ninil. New Advertisements. As will be seen by reference to our ad vertising columns, Messrs. Guuby & Cos. have just received a fresh supply of such articles as are necessary for table use. The rates of freight on Cotton from this city to Savannah have been again chang ed, as will be seen by reference to our advertising columns. Tile Theatre. On Saturday night Mr. Mortimer took a benefit, when was presented the beauti ful drama of the Golden Farmer. Mr. Allen personated the Golden Farmer, aud Mr. Clinton, Old Mob, in a very hand some manner. Mrs. Allen was an excel lent Hess, and Mr. Mortimer, as Jemmy Twitcher, was inimitable. To night Mr. Allen takes a benefit, on which occasion will be performed the popular comedy of “Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady,” to be followed by “The Day After the Wedding,” and “The Man About Town.” This will close the en gagement for the present, and we hope to see a full house, for Mr. Allen certain ly deserves well of the people of Colum bus for his efforts in behalf of the drama in the city, and in having Temperance Hall fitted up in such a handsome man ner. That Soup. George Gullet), of the “Sunny South,” laid the employees of our office under re newed obligations for a bowl of delicious Turtle Soup. George knows how to do up such tilings, and if he had seen the “boys” enjoy the treat, he would have considered it a high compliment to his culinary skill, lie has rich soup every day at half-past eleven o’clock. Pure Apple Vinegar. Pure apple Vinegar is hard to find on sale in any of the stores, and hence we consider we are discharging a public duty when we refer our readers to the adver tisement of Mr. D. P. Ellis, who is the sole agent in this city for the sale of the pure unadulterated article advertised to day, which a chemical analysis shows contains no deleterious drugs. Great Flood. The Huntsville Advocate, of the 22d instant, says: On Monday night there was the heavi est fall of rain ever known in this region. At least six inches of solid water fell dur ing the night. Water privileges in many houses and on many lots were abundant. The Railroad trains have been inter rupted. There are breaks between this and Decatur, and the Memphis train, due on Tuesday morning, has not yet arrived. The trestle work at. Brownsboro’ has been washed away in two places. Every exertion is being used to repair damages, but the trains cannot run regularly for a day or two more. Such heavy falls of rain as we have had this season cannot well be guarded against by Railroads. ■Social Equality til New York. A New York correspondent of the Charleston Courier says: The colored people of this city, though they say they are free, are a long time in learning that they are equals of the whites. Some time ago they had a cele bration, glorifying the anniversary of their privilege to ride in the city cars with white people. Their jollification was premature. For a case, which has just been decided, ignores their claims to any such rights. A young colored wo man, a dress-maker by trade, seeing a Sixth Avenue car coming along, jumped on it while it was atill running. She boldly entered arul’took a seat. The con ductor told her she could not remain.— The rules of the company were that col ored persons could not ride on any of the cars, except six especially provided for that purpose. But she expressed her de termination to remain, aud was immedi ately thereafter ejected. She brought a suit for damages against the conductor in the sum of SSOO. The defence was that he only obeyed the or ders of his employers : that while there was only one negro to forty whites in the city, six cars out of the thirty had been made ndmissablo to them. Tho decision of the Court was that the Company had the right to make necessary and pro per rules, and that their employees were not penally liable for enforcing them where more than ordinary force was not used, The negroes will now undoubtedly call another meeting, revoke their jubila tion, and groan for their lost liberties. MASTIC ROOFING COMPANY. RUSSKLL’S PATENT. rpjlE Mastic Itoof is, beyond u doubt, one of the JL greatest inventions of the age.
