DAILY SUN. Tuesday Morning, April 37, 189 8. Sew Advertisements. The statement of the President and Cashier of the Union Bank of Augusta, published in our columns to-day, allows that institution to be iu an eminently healthy condition. Persons in want of lumber should refer to the advertisement of Messrs. Hughes, Daniel & Cos., in our columns to-day. Who has a mule to sell ? If anybody, we refer thorn to au advertisement iu another column. If any person wants a good summer residence, we would refer thorn to the advertisement of D. P. Ellis, iu another column. See advertisement of new books by Messrs. Chaffin & Johnson. The Theatre. Lust night Messrs. Allen & Boothby closed their engagement in this city for the present, with a benefit to Mr. Allen. The Company goes from here to Macon, where they will play the present week, when the company will be re-organized, and return to this city and open on Mon day night, with Miss Cordelia Cappell and Mr. Jus. 11. Taylor, both well knuwn to tho theatrical world as stars of the first magnitude—and several other actors of talent will be engaged to support them. With such a company the enter prising managers cannot fail to meet with encouragement from our citizens. Young's Spirit of the South. We have received the first number of a paper bearing the above title, published weekly by W. 11. Young, Nashville, Tenn. It is neatly printed and ably edited, and is devoted to the sports of the turf, field spoils, literature, the stage, manufac tures, the mechanic and fine arts. Each number contains twelve pages, and it is sent to subscribers at five dollars per year. The agent, Mr. 1). (J. Uumsey, is now in our city for the purpose of solicit ing subscribers, and will be happy to receive the names of all such as feel disposed to patronize this truly Southern publication. More Rain and Cold. Yesterday was a cold, disagreeable day, resembling more a day in February than the latter part of April. A cold rain fell at intervals during the day, and we are fearful that wo will have more frost be fore this spell breaks. If there was none last night it was in consequence of the clouds and wind. Verily, winter still lingers, and we are exceedingly fearful that it will yet chill the lap of spring be fore it departs to its far northern home. An Honest Lottery. Asa general thing we are down upon lotteries, because they are conducted dishonestly, and all the advantages are on the side of the getter-up of the scheme; but the lottery of silver ware advertised in our paper, of which Mr. D. P. Ellis is manager, is one that is conducted on the square, and is gotten up with a fairness scarcely ever equalled. It is the very best scheme that we know of to invest in, and if you wish to invest, here is a chance to do so without being swindled. Tribute of Respect. Cm Limn 1 Guards’ Armobt.) Columbus, April 22, 1858. j Death has ugaiu iuvailtd our ranks and a fellow soldier and brother in arms lias been called away. J All KS Me. lIItOOKS is no more. In the full tide of manhood he has been stricken, and while hope pictured in the future prospects of happiness and pleasure, death sealed him its victim. From the encampment of life he has been summoned, leaving behind a well founded expectancy of endless happi ness hereafter. ’Ttvas late in life before lie buckled on the armor of the Lord, but from the moment the resolution was taken he became a faithful soldier of the Cross. At a meeting of the corpse in respect to the memory of James Me. Brooks, as a friend and fellow soldier, the following resolutions were adopt ed : ltesolved Ist. That iu the death of James Me. Brooks, tile City Light Guards have lost an invalua ble and faithful member, a true aud constant friend, a tried and generous companion. 2. AMERICANWATCHES. fIMIESE Watches aro produced by the same ya- X tern that liaa made American Fire-Arms the beat in thu world. It substitutes the rapidity and precision of machinery for the slow and unrelia ble results ol handicraft. The factory consists of a series of machines devised exproosly for this e#- tahlishment, each of which works true to exact ness, turning out each part so as to be an accurate lit iu any one of a thousand watches. Absolute precision of time is nearly attained hy these watches, as tho iuev.table result of their simplici ty and exactness of structure. The ease of their repair is obvious, as the makers have always on hand, for sale, the different parte of the watch perfectly finished, to repair damages. Besides the watch heretofore offered to the trade, wo are now making a second quality, inferior to the first only in having less finish in immaterial parts and a lighter case. This we offer at a price so moderate * to be within the means of every class, and we recommend it as sound aud reliable, ami greatly superior to imported watches of equal price f The trade are cautioned against English and Swiss imitations with which the country in flood ed. Each of our best Watches is engraved on the plate, Applkton, Tracy A Cos., WallAatn, Mass., and i.s accompanied with a certificate of genuineness and perpetual warranty, over our own signature. We refit with new Enamel Dials, of beautiful quality, watches of all kinds, the dials to which may have been broken. Orders may be addressed to us direct, or to any of the under mentioned firms, who are agents for the sale of our Watches. Messrs. FELLOWS A CO, 17 Maiden Lane, N.
