Harris’ watch can get the key to wind it, by calling at this office. See advertisement. Tile Revival. The revival of religion which lias been in progress in this city for some time pa't, continues to increase in interest.— Mourners continue to crowd tho altar at ends, meeting, and much interest is mani fested by all classes of our community in the subject of religion. We are happy to be able to state that there have been numerous conversions, and many acces sions to the Churches, among whom are some of our most worthy and influential citizens. On Sunday, we understand, there were some fifteen or twenty per sour attached themselves to the Methodist church, and on Sunday night nine persons were baptized at the Baptr ‘ church.— The feeling is still widening, and the re ligious community express strong hopes that ere the revival elores there will be many more persons happily converted, ami added to some branch of the Chris tian Church. We wish their cause ‘‘God speed.'’ and sincerely hope that the work may go ou until there shall not he one sinner or immoral man in our whole city. For the Daily Sun Sun: One of the adornments of our fair city, is the many beautiful flower yards in front of ihe residences, and there is no city perhaps in the South or North where tho ladies take more pains to keep them in good order and neatly arranged than here. Hours upou hours are spent in training the tender vine, and much solicitude indulged in regard to the first opening flower which is to repay the tinder hand for training and watering the tender plant. How sad must that heart feel to see that vine or bush ruth lessly torn and broken from its supports, iis beauty marred and destroyed. Can ;ve wonder that she who thus spent so many anxious hours of thought and care upon her favorites, should weep to see her hopes thus crushed to earth by the rude hand of worthless vagabond hoys. When I was told that such had really happened in our community and was customary, I felt, in my heart, can it bo possible? Have we, in our very midst, boys who disregard every feeling of de cency and respect for others’ property and labor? that, disregard the laws in regard to trespassing upon private resi dences? who consider every flower gav deu as public property, mount the fence, and commence the work of destruction upon the choicest rosea and shrubbery ; and if the servants on the place offer a remonstrance, receive a shower of stones tor their protection of their mistress’ pro perty. Such tilings, lam informed upon good authority, are of daily occurrence in our city. If parents will not keep a stricter guard over their boys, our city fathers should take the matter in hand, and force them to a decent respect of peo ple’s lights. The boys of our city have learned too neon that they are irresponsible, and know that no one will prosecute their f tliers for their misdemeanors, hence their boldness in tl*e lawless depredations they commit on ’hings most sacred. The Church is becoming so infested with this insolent and unmanageable rabble, that ere long a strong police force will be re quired to keep them in subjection. Old men are subjects lor their jests, and rites the most solemn and impressive are the P’ hits for their shafts of ridicule. Young men, from eighteen to thirty-five, stand by and urge them on frequently. To v uch an extent has this system of things arrived, that citizens will rather forego the attendance upon religious service, than take a buck seat or a seat in the gallery. Is there no remedy for this ? Parents, let me appeal to you in belmif of an outraged community, keep your sons by your s de in church, and at home nt night, and such children ns are beyond the control of father and mother, let the Marshal bo put in authority to clear the streets of them nt night. PAUL PRY. The correspond nt of the Brunswick j Herald, writing from Waresborougb, 1 Ware county, Georgia, makes the follow- ! mg singular sta'ement of facts, which j we give for wlint it is worth Some few days since a man by the name j el Sheldon passed through thisplaoe and j sold two horses to one of our citizens.— i The following day four persons, viz: Miller, Quartermaster in the U. 8. service I •Stewart. Frink and-■ here and claimed the horses as U. S. j property. Three of the citizens from this , luce and three from Florida, went in pursuit of Sheldon, and overtook him at t • Depot of tho Savannah and Gulf 1 Railroad; while arresting him, Stewart, without any provocation, shot him through 1 the aim. Sheldon was brought back to this place and given up to Qurterniaster Miller; who was hoard to make some i threats Sheldon expressed great fears • hat hia life would be taken. Miller j promised to deliver him to Col. Loomis, 1 at Tampa Bay. Under such ciroumstuti- ; ees tjiey left tifis place. When Miller arrived nt .In-pcr, . Florida, he had no prisoner with him, and said that Sheldon had attempt’ and to get away, and he had shot him, cut h:s throat, opened bis bow els and sunk him in a creek in Clinch county. Georgia, by the name of Trou blesome, and showed, a bloody knife, and | S lid that ho liill killed and opened b m with that knife. The above is an extract of wlint I havo received from tollable gentlemen in this county. These arc facts, and Gov. Brown woubt do well to have them investigated. A Citizen of Ware. X. B—Miller hid no warrant for the arrest of Sheldon. . he National Theater, at Cliicngo, open ed with Maggie Mitchell as the star. From tho New Yoik Herald, May 13. Fluam ial Frauds ami Criminal Prosecutions. We published yesterday an aocouut of ;vu alleged fraud of a stupendous chanio | ter, and tho arrest of tho principal party concerned in it, a person of some promi nence in the financial world. This is but the beginning of the and closures of this kind which are sure to fullnw the late re ■ vulsion. The crisis being past, the reac tionary period has come, and reaction always brings to light frauds of large magnitude in the management, of rail roads, hanks, insurance companies and J other corporations. It was so to tho ex j tent of some hundreds of millions after I the crisis of 1837, and we have no doubt that every month for years to come will develop some new fraud, of so startling a character that criminal prosecutions will be likely to follow in many cases. The extraordinary expansion aud wild specu lation which characterised our method of transacting business for some time were fruitful sources of fraud. Tho faster men made money, the mbre eager they became to accumulate ; and from the loose menner in which many corporations were conducted, the temptations and the facili ties for fraud were equally great. The criminal prosecution of Mr. Dwight, now pending, will strike terror into the hearts of many a smart operator throughout the country. The Ohio Life and Trust Com pany, whose failure brought ruin to so many thousand households, will, wo pre sume, be the n xt subject for criminal ! proceedings. It is time that the comrner- i cia! atmosphere should be purged, and there is no better instrument for effecting that purpose than a criminal prosecution now and then vigorously and successfully carried out—such us those in England, which sent Sir John Dean Paul and his confederates into penal servitude, and tho directors of the Royal British Bank to vegetate in the county prisons. We now see by the proceedings which are pending against some of the Wall street financiers and speculators, who were the real authors of the recent pauie. The defalcations committed during the years 1850 and 1857 by bankers, brokers, and others placed in positions of commer cial trust, are in process of development, and explain satisfactorily the causes of the sudden interruption of commercial confidence, which led to the tremendous commercial revulsion through which we have just passed. It was by these men, and by no others, that the panic was originated. They hoped to find in it se curity, but it has brought to them only detection and shame. GOLD AND SILVER FOE SALE _ By B. 11.
