Sp faily J^im. TufuiUy Morning, May 18, INSH. Jumping the Hope. Littlo girls find sometimes larger ones, grow ambitious nt times in this exercise, ami their movements should b> watched, us they may do themselves injuries, from the eßocts of which they may never re cover. Wo have known women made crip ples for life by this exercise, in their ju v nile sports of an hour. A serious case of the kind occurred in this city the early part of tiiis week. A young lady from New York, in a thoughtless hour, resolv ed to see how many times she could jump the rope without stopping, as others had done, and went on until she was exhaust ed, and sunk into absolute helplessness. Yan immediate eonseijuence she was seized witli an utl'ectionof the heart, and was for two or three days in danger of sudden dinth. At the last accounts she had improved a little, hut is slill in im minent danger, and her recovery can on ly he the result of the utmost care,*with the aid of n considerable lapse of time. - -Poughkeepsie Eagle. A frightful accident occurred on Tues day morning, at o'clock, on the Ccn crul Railroad, New York, hy the crushing of a bridge of the Sefnoit. Creek, some three und a half miles west of Utica, near Whitesboro’. Seven or eight persons are already dead, and five or six others arc barely alive. The injured number forty or more. The accident occurred to the Cincinnati Express train, due at Utica at twenty minutes past six. It was some what behind time at Wliiteshoto’, and was coming up at a high rate of speed when it met nn the bridge, over the .Sef noit Creek, the I tica accommodation train for the West, each on its own truck. I'lie engines crossed the bridge, but us tlie passenger car- of the express and the freight caiH of tlit- accommodation came upon it. the north side gave way, precipi tating the freight cars into the creek, pil ing the passenger cars one above the other, and splintering the platforms and seats to atoms as the cars struck the abutments, l<srge lion. The largest raft of lumber ever floated upon the Upper Mississippi passed La Crosse on its way from lllack River Falls to St. Louis, on Saturday morning last. “It was the greatest sight,” says the (democrat, “ever seen in these waters.” The raft was manned hy twenty-four “red shifts,” every man nt his oar and every oar doing its work. The size of the raft wus five hundred anil suit/ feet long, hy two hundred wide, and the amount of lumber which it contained full a million feet, to gether with 250,000 laths, and 250,000 shingles. There were two good sized houses erected on board, and the whole crew and officers consisted of captain, twenty-four oarsmen, two cooks one clerk and bottle washer, which together with a black bear and a hull dog, tuado up all the occupants. The raft was owned by James Crnnet, one of tlie heaviest of the Black River lumber dealers. WARM SPRINGS, MERIWETHER COUNTY, GEORGIA, To Im* oprnrd oik tin- Flnl of Tiine. Jan. 2b, ’SB-ly THE LIVER INVIGORATOK. PREPARED BY Dit SANFORD, Compounded entirely from Gums, IS one of the best Purgatives and Liver Mt dicines uow before the public that acts as a Cathartic, easier, milder, anil more effectual than any other medicine known. It is not only a Catliart; . but a Liver remedy, acting first on the Liver to eject its morbid matter, then on the stomach anil bowels to carry off that matter, thus accomplishing two pur- ! poses effectually, without any of tho pa nful feel- j iugH experienced iu the operation of most Cuthai- ! tics. It strengthens the system at the same time I that it purges it; and when taken daily In moder- ! ate doses, will strengthen and build it up with i unusual rapidity. The Liver is one oi 7f\ the piincipal regula tors of tho human Ic- dy; and when it pee forms its functions ■ well, the powers are fully developed.
