The St. Louis Republican’s Westport correspondent gives an entirely different version of the affair, lie says that those men driven out of Lynn county by Mont gomery’s band, after placing their fami lies in safety, returned to tho territory to look after tlieir property. They captured the men by mistake—taking them for a part of Montgomery’s band—but subse quently released them. They heard a gun fired on tlio side of a hill, and re turned the fire, when it was ascertained that the released party were armed. A fight ensued, resulting in tlio death often of the latter party.
