MASTIC ROOFING COMPANY.
UUSSKLL’S PATENT.
riMIK Mastic Roof is, beyond a doubt, one of the
X greatest inventions of the age. In view of
its low r> st, (half the price of tin,; easy applica
tion, gp at durability and exact adaptation to any
climate by its expansion and contraction through
the influence of heat and cold, it does unquestiona
bly, by far, excel any roofing now in use, slat*’ not
excepted. It can bo readily applied to roofs ot
every description, either steep or flat, and is
known to be better than anything ever before dis
covered for Steamboat Decks, Bridges, Rail Road
Cars, Fouuderie*, Ac.
It may be put over old Shingles without re
moving them, and is far better than any Oil Paints
for metal roof*. Now buildings require to be cov
eted only with rough pine plank previous to the
application ot this article, and in cu-os of emer
ge ncy, a roof measuring twenty or even forty
squares, may be covered iu a single day.
Rooting done in any section of the &outii, and
rights sold for using the same. All work will he
warranted tight or no pay asked. Old Tin, Iron,
Slate or Shingle Hoofs made tight and warranted.
We propose to roof, free of churge, one Car for
each Rail Road Company in the South, al'lcr that
|2d and f.25 w ill he charged.

From the New Orleans Picayune, 7th.
Later from Havana.
The U. S. mail steamship Illack War
rior, Captain Smith, from New York, via
Havana, arrived at New Orleans on Sat
urday morning, sth inst.
The Black Warrior left New York on
tlie 27th ultimo, and Havana on the 2d
instant, and crossed the bar at noon on
yesterday.
British outrages on American vessels
in the Gulf continue. Tlie purser of the
Black Warrior reports : On Sunday morn
ing, 30th ult., the brig A. A. Chapman,
Captain Laurent, when eight miles from
the Island of Cuba, and twenty from tho
Moro, was overhauled by the British war
steamer Styx. The sea at the time was
smooth and the wind light, and the brig
was going about two miles an hour. The
steamer tired a blank shot and set her
colors. The brig also hoisted hers, keep
ing ou her course. The steamer then ran
alongside, within hailing distance, und
tired a volley of small arms in her rig
ging : but as Captain L. still kept his
way, the steamer was laid across his
bows, her ports thrown open, and her
guns run out The brig was then hove
to and catechised, and allowed to go on
her way, the officer boarding remarking
as ho left, “Remember, Captain, this is
11. B. M.’s war steamer Styx, and not the
Forward,” (tho brig having once run
away from the latter.) The Captain pro
tested against the outrage, and un reach
ing Havana made a full statement of the
nllair, affidavits, &c., to be forwarded to
Washington by tlie American Consul.
Tlio purser further reports: About
twenty miles from Havana, exchanged
signals with a division of tho Spanish
fleet, on a cruise for exercise and health.
lie also reports the health of Havana
good, and adds tho following memoran
duru: Stock of sugar 200,000 boxes,
against 360,000 samo time last year;
prices firm at last quotations. Fxchange
on London 111. to 11} premium. New
York 60 days, par to 1 per cent, premium
for favorite names.
We have files of Havana papers by the
Black Warrior to the 2d inst., inclusive.
The Havana papers admire with pious
devotion the administration of the holy
sacrament to hundred prisoners in
the Royal Jail; and the marked effect of
the services performed ou the occasion,
and of tlio solemn ceremony. A writer in
the Prensa enthusiastically lauds the
beauties of the Roman Catholic religion,
which can thus affect tlio hearts of its
most erring members.
The Havana market review of the
I‘rene/i for the week endod on Saturday,
29th ult., reports that there hud been
considerable business done during tbe
week at higher and better sustained pri
ces than bad prevailed during the pre
ceding one. First quality white had
brought from 11J to li|j reals, und many
holders were asking 12 reals. First qual
ity crushed had sold at 9j} to 10£ reals ;
with somo holders asking HU reals.
Some transactions in second quality
crushed had been effected at from to
reals; and iu superior cuvuruchot sales
had been made at from 7k to Bj| reals.
The purchases had been rnude principally
by Spanish houses for export; the mar
ket wus firm and active, and advices from
this city were expected to strengbeu it,
because, according to telegruphic ue
couuts received here, <3ur market was firm
with a tendency to uu improvement in
prices.
Accounts from Cardenas, Mutunzus,
&c., state that tbe murkets had been ac
tive, with large operations in muscovado
at 7to reals. In Havana small lots
were offered at 7 J to 8 reals.
Tho receipts at Huvutia, coastwise,
during the week, had amounted to 28,682
boxes; and there wero exported 34,199
boxes, of which 5198 were for New York,
600 for Baltimore and 600 for New Or
leans.
For coffee the demand had but slightly
improved. A sale of 89 sucks first qual
ity, from i’uerto Rico, had been made at
sl2 75 ; and of 150 sacks from the San
tiago de Cuba warehouse, at from $9 50
to sll, according to quality. None had
been received from the interior; aud
there hail been exported only 36 arrobas.
Twisted tobacco continued in good de
mand, with considerable exports. In leaf
there was but little movement. The l'ren
sa says that according to the statements
of a private letter from tho Vuelta-Abujo,
there would be received, during the first
duys of this month, some lots of the new
crop. The exports of twisted during the
week were 1002 J millares, of whioh 347
were for Now (irleuns. Os leaf, the ex
ports wore 24,556 pounds, of which 7,610
was for this city.
Freights for sugar to tho United States
are quoted at 95 cents to $1 per box, aud
$5.50 to $6.50 per hogshead.
The brig Tallulah, Capt. Henson, ar
rived at Havana hence, on the Ist inst.,
on the 30th ult. the ship It. Jay, Capt.
Meads, and tho brig A. A. Chapman,
Capt. Laurent, arrived hence, and the
brig Margarot A. Stevens. The steam
ship Call aba arrived hence at Havana,
on tho 29tli ult., and left again the same
day.
