The oven bottom of the improved IRON WITCII is belt, i protected, aud the heat in the oven more perfectly equalized, by a Hue passing from back to front under the oven bottom. The air Hue at the back of the oven bottom con ducts a large body of air along tho bottom, and up between tin- front oven plate anil jlrc-lmck, pro tecting the luttor and equalizing the heat. This air, having become highly heated, passes through the oven, facilitates the baking, aud carries off all smell and impurities. Meat baked in this oven will bo found entirely free from tho dead baled taste usual to moats done in tho common uir-tight ovens. Asa bread baker, this oven will give great satisfaction, and enable the cook to turn out a lighter, more nutritious and palatable bread. The fiuo at the back of the oven is divided so as to give much more heat towards tho sides; by this means equalizing the heat, and making it moro intense at this point, at the same time preventing it from escaping into the stuvo-pipQ before thor oughly heating the back and sides of the Stove. With the above improvements, the I’alonteo has also exercised all tho experience of thirty years in the stove business, in making this Stovo STRONG and DURABLE. The plates are so constructed and equalized thut tho expansion and contraction of the iron will not crack them, and nil the parts are strengthened (hat come in immediate contact with tho fire. In fact, no labor nor expense has been spared in ma king the Improved Iron Witch the very host wood Cooking Stovo in tho market, and one that lias no equal. Soule still lingers here. Hedenounoes the course of tho Administration toward Douglas with contempt, and thinks tho, extreme Southern party has destroyed itself by its blunders about Kansas and neglecting Central America. The Democrats have brilliant Tro- Douglas news from Illinois, and think his success certain, but Trumbull writes that tho reaction is strong against him, and that tho Americans are decidedly dispos ed to fuse with the Republicans. Cuba, N. Y., Aug. 29.—The Democrat ic Caucus this evening resulted in a pitched battle between tho llards and Softs. The feeling was intense. The Indians are more hostile now than at any timo since the Territory was first settled. Nearly all tho tribes aro com mitting depredations. A number of set tlers havo been killed, and several droves of horses have been run oil'. As yet the troops havo made no effort to protect the settlers. Cumming still retains the cou fiudeuce of the community, und thus far his acts and policy give general satisfac tion. From Key West. The following is an extsact from a pri vate letter, received in Charleston, dated the 24th inst., at Key West: By the arrival of our mail boat from the Miami, I was informod that a party of fivo Indians and ouo negro, in com mand of their chief, “Tiger Tail,” visited our old townsman, Robt. R. Fletoher, who rocoived them kindly, and treated them with all the courtesy duo Native. Americans. They were very grateful until they found out that there was whisky on the premises. Ah soon as that was known they kept Mr. Fletcher in hot water all the time, hut still done no dam age. The negro, who is their iuterpre ter, says that there are more Iniliant in Flor ida than tee are aware of. So that the ex penses which our Government has been to, in getting Bowlegs out, has done but very little good. They appear to know nothing about Bowlegs’ departure. Tho yellow fever is in our city, or rathor in tho Hospital; it has not yet made its ap pearance in town. About tea persons have died from it; every arrival now is quarantined, even the California steam ers. No gale yet, but tho barometer has boon falling for tho past two days. The A tl nit tic Telegraph mill the Markets. The New York Herald of Friday says : Dealers iu cotton yesterday expressed regret that the news despatch which came over from England said nothing about cotton. They said “cotton was king,” who held his court in Liverpool, aud that they would have been pleased to havo heard something regarding the state of his Majesty’s health. Merchants in other lines of business wore also re gretting that the lutest prices for all sorts of produce were not sent.— Brokers, also, would like to havo had a quotation for codbols, and something about monetary affairs. As it wuh, however, the news was im portant, and was uot without its effects, it was considered favorable for cotton holders, as peace with China would briug silver to Europe as indemnity money, and impart greater activity to tho exports of cotton goods, both in England and in tho United States, and nugment the con sumption of raw cotton by manufacturers. Tho result was, that after the news catno to hand tho cotton market assumed great er firmness, and tho sales etnbraoed about 2,000 bales, nearly all on the spot, at full prices. The holders of teas, which had ruled dull for some time, were taken all aback by the news, and tho feeling in the mar ket wae that of increased heaviness, though no sales transpired by which the influence of tho news could be tested.— As the stocks iu first hands are chiefly owned by strong parties, it is not likely that they will show a disposition to do much, or that they will yield any con cessions of moment until the steamers oan bring details of the treaty of peace with the Chinese Government.
