Mr. Mc- Mullen, has arrived here, llereprcsenls that when he left tho Territory, a month ago, the Indians west of the Cascado mountains wero disposed to bo friendly, but fears wero entertained that they might be influenced by those residing east, of the mountains, who defeated Col. .Steptoe. A vigoroua campaign against them and severe chastisement will, however, pro bably have tho effect of producing a gen oral peace among *lio savages, who must sensibly feel tho power of the Govern ment. He says that bands of Indians from the Jiritish and Russian possessions, who are extremely formidable and sbrowd, are in the habit of plundcringand killing the settlers in tlie most exposed portions of the Territory. Richardson, of Nebraska has called a special session of the Legislature, to convene on tho 21st of September, for the purpose of remodelling tho laws of the Territory, many of which, he alleges, conflict with each other, and do not oll'er ample security to life and property. Later from Havana, Tho U. S. Mail Steamship Daniel Web ster, Capt. Miner, from New York via Havana and Key West, arrived at New Orleans on tho 30th ult. From the Pic ayune, wo condense the following summary of her news. Her news from Havana is to the 25th ult: Tho purser of the Daniel Webster re ports that in Havana it was generally supposed that the American brig Nanoy would not bo coudemed as a slaver. Ho further reports that the stock of sugar on hand at Havana amounted to 120,000 boxes, that prices were tending upward, aud that some engagement* for tho new crop had been made at S2O 60 to $27 50 per box. The health of Havanna he reports very good. Sugars, in our market, continuo to im prove in a maimer which not only shows an immense chango in our mercantile condition during theso last few mouths, but also raises great hopes and faith in the future. According to accounts which we believe trustworthy, contracts were made yesterday for the produce of tho next crop of the San Jose and Santo Domingo estutos, of whatever variety and class it shall be, on arriving at market, for $25 per box of 10 urrobas. The pro duce comprehended in this transaction is estimated at uvor 7,000 boxes. We know also that the same price has been offered for other crops of large ex tent, but that sellers ask more. This is iu reference to sugars made in ordinary pans ; but wo further know that with re spect to those made by the Deresno patent apparatus, otters have been made at a 1 corresponding advanco for their c!a>s.
