Death of Another Kiplorer. Franois C. Walton, who was one of the brnvnst of the survivors of the Kane- Arctic Expedition, died recently in Phila delphia, in the fifty-fifth year of his age, in destitute circumstances. High-Handed Act. A lettor received at Salem, Maas., from Captain Gillnm, of tho American brig Rockingham, dated Goree, West Coast of Africa, October 12, states that an armed boat from a French war steamer that had lost twenty-five of its men from sickness, came alongside of the Rookingham and took from her ono of her crow, a French man, and impressed him into the French service. There boing no American Consul at that place, Capt. Gillnm had no moans of preventing the outrage. A Remedy far Worms In llogi. Thomas S. Mitchell, of Ellerslie, Ga., in a lottcr to tho American Cotton plan ter, gives tho following for Worma in Hogs, which ho has for a long time used with very happy effcot. Ho says “taks a rind of bacon, several pieoos, and sprinkle over them about 12 grains of Arsnic, and givo thorn to tho hog affected with worms, three times iu twenty-four hours. l)o not permit the hog to have anything else to eat for thirty-six hours; then give it plonty of corn, &0., and it will fatten faster than a hog will that is put up in good health.” Kloped with his Brother’s Wil*. The Memphis Appeal of Tuosday, says a day or two ago a couple of men were in that city looking for Mrs. Susan Care lino Campbell, who had eloped from her home in Washington, county, Illinois, with Edwin 11. Campbell, the brother of her husband. The couple had been trac ed to tho Mississippi river, where they took a down stream boat; they were next traced to Memphis, which they left a day or two before the arrival of their persu ers, but it eould not be discovered for what place. The woman’s husband had always behaved kindly to her, tho one she has run off with is an idle vagabond. He is twenty-fivo years of age, but bears a boyish look for his years, has a light or red complexion, bluo eyes, and dark au burn hair ; he is a printer by trade, but has sometimos worked at other business —it is to be hoped he will be caught snd kicked as he merits, and afterwards pro perly punished. The Montgomery (Ala.) Confederation of Saturday morning, publishes without comment, the following extract from a letter shown them by a friend, whioh they publish to show the current now pervading tho Democratic party of Ala bama to a considerable extent: “I should like to have a talk with you about politics. I grow more and more doubtful of our ability to keep up this Union, unless we will submit to degrada tion that must end in ultimate ruin. I am rosolvcd for my part, that I will not follow any standard of which Senator Douglas is bearer. I would as soon, or indeod, far sooner, have Seward for President to-morrow. Qive me a full measure of degradation at once, that 1 may die of the dote, or muteate and throw it off, but savo me from taking poison, littlo by little, until all my sense, and manhood, is flapped away by slow de gress. I made it my business to see * * * , who has just gone to Washing ton, and to announco to him that this was the determination of one good Dem crat of Alabama, if there was Dot another in the wide creation.” I)rni of the Mortar* Abdaction. The Civitta Cattolica has just published a supplementary defense of the Holy See, in tho matter of young Mortara’s abduc tion. It is a long and labored dooument, and full of those painful perversions of Koripturo to which wo are accustomed in writings on this side of tho question. The writer extols the wisdom and gentleness of the church, and fulminates anathemas against those who stand up for the seered ness of natural relationships, whom be accuses of descending to tho level of the bcastß, in whom the parental atleotions predominate. Ho insists very much that tho mission of our Lord was not to send pence, but a sword. Rut as M. Paradol well remarks in yesterday’s Debats, “the only sword in your hands is the sword of Franco, without which, far from being able to tear a poor Jewish child from his parents, you could not defend yourselves against your own Christian people.”— London Ntwt, 17/A inti. Immigration Into Florida. A letter from Tallahassee, Florida, to the Savannah Republican, says : If I am correctly advised, a considera ble current of immigration has already set into this fttata since the removal of Rilly Rowings k Cos. The sugar planters of Louisiana, suffering from the floods of last spring, are, in some instances, turn ing their attenlion thitherward. A single purchase on the Manhattee river, to the value of $190,000, has lately been re ported ns having been made hy citizens of that State. And no wondor—for it is manifest that portions of Florida, lying where iee never comes, is better adapted to the culture of sugar than any part of Louisiana.
