Counterfeit—Caution.
Tbo lifty dollar counterfeit note on tho
Georgia Jtailroad & Ranking Company,
noticed yesterday as having beon reoontly
dotocted, is described as being a very
good imitation, und well calculated to de
ceive tho unwary and inoxperionced.—
Tbo signature of the President and Cash
ier are so cloßely imitated as almost to
defy detection, but, upon minuto exami
nation, are found to be engraved. The
Constitutionalist says : “Tlie general ap
pearance of the note is not unlike tho
genuine one, but the engraving is inferior
to it. Tho contro vignetto is scratchy
and imporfect, aud tho face of the bust of
Washington is eyeless and noseless. Rut
tho miniature likeless of Mrs. Washing
ton, in the lowor right handoorner of the
noto, is so vory uuliko that of tho true
ono, us to expose tlio docoption immedi
ately when tho attention is called to it.”

Report of tho Treasury Department.
Washington, Deo. o.— The Secretary
of tho Treasury, Mr. Cobb, refuses to
muko public tbo contents of his report.—
It is generally believod, however, that it
will contain no recommendation of any
material change in the present tariff law.
Tho inforonoo is that ho prefers, in cases
of nocossity, to resort to loans instead of
unsettling commerce by any change in
tho main features of the present rates.
