Crown lMnmonds Thursday Night.
Avery good audience assembled to wit
ness this beautiful Opera, notwithstanding
the threatening aspect of the clouds.—
This is one of the prettiest things the
Company perform, and was well done. It
is also one which will wear—always prov
ing interesting. The music of the piece
is fine, and the plot charmingly romantic.
The song of “The happy Muleteer,” by
Mr. Lyster, was well sung.
Mr. Trevor sung “Day and night I
thought of thee” much better than on a
former occasion, reaching the highest
notes with more facility and correct tone.
Miss King did very well, but we thought
she would have pleased the audience bet
ter if she had spoken louder.
As for Misses Durand and llodson, it
is not necessary for us to say a word, for
all know they never spoil their work.
This evening will be presented anew
Opera to some of our people, and the last
bill of the Beason, and perhaps the last
opportunity very many of us will have to
hear such charming music as Miss Durand
and Miss Hodson discourse. Let the
admirers of these ladies fill tho Hall to
overflowing, that they may feel, where’er
their lots may be cast, the music-loving
public of Columbus will bear them in
kind remembrance. This Company de
served, and have received, a patronage at
the hands of our citizens such as no other
Company ever received. And why ? Be
cause, as a people, we are ardent admirers
of good music, and are willing to spend
our money freely upon those whom we are
satisfied aro proficients in this heavenly
gift. This, in connection with the gene
ral bearing of the Company, have won for
them a name and a place in the hearts of
our pooplc never before attained by any
Company of artistes.
During the engagement now closing we
have never mentioned the very effective
Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. A.
lleiff. Though small, yet we venture the
opinion that no Orchestra of its numbers
can or does surpass it in brilliant and
correct execution. Mr. Reiff seems to
study nothing else but his business, hence
the exactness with which everything
both on the stage and in tho Or
chestra box. Each gentleman connected
with the band is a finished performer on
the instrument he uses.
HAVANA CIGARS!
r rUIK subscribers have formed a copartnership
JL for the direct importation of HAVANA CI
GAIIS. Tho connection with a bouse in Charles
ton will afford us the meaus of great dispatch, and
we will be enabled to sell at the same rates, only
exponses added.
Our stock, which will compete and, we havejio
doubt, surpass any other in the city, is composed
of the following choico brands and sizes:
Cabanas, Uprnann. Tres Herman as, It Hondo
Cabargas, La Criolla. Ymperiales, Brevas.
La Mauola, Cervantes. Regalia, Cazadores.
Kscocesa, Flor de Sala. Corchas, Panetelas.

panola# Cilindrados, Vegueros.
J npiter, Cachucha. Wiellar Comum.

merous to mention.
Wo hope, by close attention to business, and our
determination to do justice to all that may favor
us with their custom, to merit a liberal share of
patronage. We will be constantly receiving fresh
supplies, and will be pleased to All orders from
any distance. Our capital, together with our ex
tensive connections, will enable us to competo fair
ly with any importing house.

From Yucatan.
We have dates from Mendle, Yucatan, |
to January 3. The savages were still \
giviug the Government great trouble, and i
one hundred and thirty-four persons had \
been barbarously murdered by tho Indians
in the department of Sotuta since the ter- |
rible butcheries of Tekox, Bocalar and
other towns. On December 20 tho village
of Tabchivichen was besieged by two
hundred Indians, who fired the little fort
manned by a dozen men under command
of a Lieutenant. After a long battle, the
soldiers retreated, when the savages enter
ed the village, where they burned thirty
houses of wood aud straw, and broke into
the buildings of stone. On tho 21th, at
Tabchivichen, the enemy killod twenty
one persons of both sexes ; and then pass
ing to Tixcacal, they butchered fifteen,
firing all the combustible houses in both
places. On the 19th they invaded the
village of Tilholop, where they murdered
fifty-four persons of all ages and both
sexes, not including the inhabitants of
two ranches outside the village, who met
the same fate. The Governor had called
upon all males between the ages of 18 and
50 years to take part in tho hostilities
against the savages.

LONDON CORDIAL GIN.
THE ORIGINAL AND
ONLY LONDON GIN IMPORTED.
This Gin, distilled in Loudon from sound Har
ley, under the surveillance of the British Ex
cise Laws, is delicately flavored with a tinc
ture of the Italian Juniper Berry, und some of
the most valuable restoratives of tho Vegetable
Kingdom, rendering it, in the opinion of the
most eminent medical men, the purest and safest
stimulant or diuretic drink in use.
It is a delicious tonic, of a soft and delicate fla
vor, differing entirely from any other Gin, and
devoid of that harsh, acrid taste, which renders
the article knotyi as Holland Gin or Schnapps so
objectionable.
Though notintended as a medicine, it is recom
mended by physicians generally in cases of Dys
pepsia, Gout, Rheumatism, Dropsy, Gravel, Colic,
Cholera, Fever aud Ague, Stricture, Diseases of
the Urinary Organs, tho Kidneys and the Bow
els, Nervous Debility, Ac., whilst the weaker sex
will find by its adoption a sure relief from those
distressing annoyances which frequently attend
their delicate organization.
Dr. Valentine Mott, of New York, tho highest
medical authority, pronounces Charles’ London
Cordial Gin “not only superior to any other, but
the best article of the kind he has ever seen.”
It is peculiarly adapted to settlers in the South
ern and Western States, as well as for travellers
exposed to changes of water and air.

From the Cincinnati Commercial of Jan. 13.
A few of tho packing houses find a little to do
still, but transactions are merely nominal. Re
ceipts reported only 219 head; the total would
probably make tho amount alittloover 300; up to
date the gross receipt i amount to about 352,600
head. One pleasant feature of tho season’s busi
ness is the fact that the producers have reaped
very large profits in cash, and should the business
prove to bo unprofitable to operators, the conse
quences will not fall disastrously on the substan
tial interests of tho country; the hogs are paid
for, and speculators may play thoir game. Provi
sions aro quite firm, maintaining a better position
in the views of holders than was exhibited yester
day.
Tho Cincinnati Price Current of to day says of
tho article copied into yesterday’s paper from the
Louisville Commercial Review :
It is an old adage that “figures will not lie,” but
we are sorry to say the above statement does not
demonstrate the accuracy of this maxim very sat
isfactorily. In the first place there aro several
mistakes in adding up, as will bo seen by running
up the two columns of aggregates. And then, in
the footiug up of the column of tho returns from
Missouri, wo find a mistake of about 9,000, it be
ing 127,000 Instead of 118,000. In the footing up
of the column for Ohio, thoro is also a mistake of
about 19,700. Then there are several omissions
aud understatements; the latter, however, may be
accounted for by the fact admitted by the writer,
that tho reports, in nearly sirfty instances, aro but
partial. The returns from lowa are rather singu
lar. Wo find Keokuk, where there is an increase
of 27,000 omitted; and Quincy, Illinois, where
thore is an increase of 10,000, is also omitted; so is
Ripley, Ohio, and so are various minor points; but
a statement made up so loosely’, whother by design
or not we cannot say, is hardly worthy of further
comment; we will just show how a few admittod
facts will change this statement;
Increase at Keokuk, omitted 27,000
Increase at Ripley, “ 6,000
Increase at Quincy, “ 10,000
Understatement of Muscatine 9,000
Mistake iu footing Missouri 9,000
“ “ totals this year 20,000
81,000
Less mistako in footing returns for Ohio this
year 19,700
61,300
Add increase as above 28,000
Total increase 89,300
Showing a net increase by making the correc
tions and adding returns for only three places, ac
cording to tho calculations of tho Louisville men,
of some two or three thousand, instead of a net de
crease of 86,000 or ro. We would not have gono to
the trouble of analyzing this statement thus par
tially, did it not so materially conilicfc with the
partial one wo published last week, and as a few
take the trouble to examine figures, many might
be led to supposo there was something wrong iu
ours.
Athens, Ohio, Jan. 10, 1859.
Eds. Com.: Having seen no report from tho pork
packing busines of this county this season, I will
give you as correct an ostimate of what has been
done hero in this line, as 1 can in tho absence of a
part of the “ figures.”
A gentleman here, who was engaged in tho busi
ness last season as well as this, furnishes mo with
tho following report, and from my own personal
knowledge of tho matter I think it very nearly
correct:
Whole number packed in this county last
season 4,000
Whole number driven to Baltimore 8,000
Total 12,000
Average weight about 200 lbs.
Whole number packed this season 3,000
Number driven east and to Cincinnati 5,000
Total 8,000
Average weight 150 pounds.
Showing a difference of about 4,000 head aud
fully 25 per cent, in weight, in favor of last season.
I do not know how packing has been at other
places, further than “reports"’ show, but 1 know
the statement in a late number of tho “ Price Cur
rent” will not hold good hero.
Respectfully, F. M. CHASE.
