Slje gaily; Jjuu.! Uood Mnxluis. Lot no man bo ashamed to work. Let no mau be u banned of a hard fist or sun burnt countenance. Let him bo asliamod only of ignorance and sloth. Let no man be ashamed of poverty. Let him only be ashamed of dishonesty and idleness. — Thrift will most certainly follow the ob servance of these rules, provided the ob servance bo accompanied by economy, industry and untiring energy. There is only one thing man in I his land of plenty should bo too proud to do ; and that is, to remain poor.— Exchange. . ■ Cotton in I.lburin. Tlio American portion of the popula tion in Liberia have commenced, with much spirit, tho cultivation of cotton. President Henson, in a recent letter, says : “There has been twenty times moro emton planted by Amorioo-Liberians this year than ever before, of both native and foreign seed, and I feel sanguine that its cultivation will increase each succeed ing year.” A half ton of cotton seed sent out by tho Manchester (ling.) Cotton Supply Association, has been planted ex tensively. The Association has also offer ed prizes for the production of cotton', which Mr. Itonson thinks will operate as a strong stimulus to its cultivation. A party of emigrants from Georgia sent home lately a sample of cotton of a epo ch's which blossoms perpetually, and one of their number asserts that good sea island cotton can be grown in Liberia. The young republic lias a most hopeful future. —. DYSPEPSIA, i 8 shown by the statement of Urn hoard of J\_ Health of New York, caused tho death of 70 persons out of Oil dc -.hs iu one week, and 131 deaths by consumption, induced by Dyspepsia. As it is a well attested fact that Dyspepsia is Hie origin of tho suffering of u large portion of thoee wlio die of consumption, it becomes the duty of every one to use such precautions against and remedies for Dyspepsia as science and experience have pieced before them, und which have proved to bo efficacious; of this chaiactor is Dr. William’s Anti-Dysi'Eptk; Elixir, in corroboration of which read the following testimonials : Testimony of Mr. Michael Dunn, Superintend ent of the Philadelphia Exchange, corroborative of the cllb acy or William's Anti-Dvbpeptic Elixir: Piulaul LPHIA, March ltt, 1553. Dr. Jambs Williams— For several years past l have been liable to attacks of Dyspepsia; but never have I been more distressingly alllicted with its symptoms than within tho last few weeks. Indigestion, nervous irritability, despondency, a sense of weight in tho stomach, and severe pains in the left sido, rendered me, for tho time being, truly Wretched. Fortunately, 1 was recommended by a friend to try yom Elixir. 1 did so, and iu less than two weeks indigestion ceased; pain and nervous depression left mo, and appetite, with mental and bodily lionlth, wore fully restored. To me the cure seemed almost miraculous, aud my object In writing to you is—a hope that other per sons suifei ing the miseries of Dyspepsia wiii avail themselves of your efficient remedy. I am. dour sir, yours truly, MICHAEL DUNN. AN INVALUAIILX REMEDY roll DYSPEPSIA. Rond tho testimony of the wife of .Mr. John Stiles, on tho Frankford Road, near the hist toll Erankpord Hoad, Oct. 2f., 1843. I)r. James Williams—Having recently under stood that it is your intention to resume tho pre paring of your Anti-Dyspeptic Elixir, mid being anxious that others maybe honefltted by its use as I have been, I herewith send you, for publica tion, if you think proper, a statement of the efiec tual cure produced on me by it. For a number of years 1 have been suffering to such an extent, that 1 became so much debilita ted, and tho digestive powers so much destroyed, ttiat it was with difficulty 1 could take and retain sufficient nourishment to support lifo. Neither myself nor iny friends were aware that my suffer ing proceeded from indigestion; in tho year IHJ9 my attention was directed by my husband to your advertisement, at that time published 111 some of tho city papers, explaining tho causes ami symp toms of dyspepsia, and confidently offering a remedy I immediately procured and used your medicine with the most signal success; from a state of debility, languor and nervousness, and complete loss of the power of digestion, so great that I could take at first only Itvo drops of the Elixir at a dose, I was ill a few days much re lieved, and by continuing it a short lime I have been ri stored to health, strength and vigor, which I still retain. I take great pleasure, sir, ill mak ing known the efficacy of your Anti-Dyspeptic Elixir, and sincerely hope it may bo the means of indiieingothers to go and he benefited like my sol t. HULL, DUCK & CO., J. S. PEMBERTON A CO., fIIIOOKS & CHAPMAN, Sept. 1, 1868-ly Columbui, Oa. THE LIVER mVIGO EATO St. PREPARED BY DU. SANFORD, Compounded entirely from Gums, £ S one of the best Purgatives and Liver Medicines I now before the public that acts as a Cathartic, easier, milder, and more effectual than any other medicine known. It is not only a Cathartic, but a Liver remedy, acting first on the Liver to eject its morbid matter, then on the stomach and bowels to carry off that matter, thus accomplishing two pur poses effectually, without any of the pa nful feel ings experienced iu the operation of most Cathar tics. U strengthens tho system at tho same time that it purges it; and when taken daily iu moder ate doses, will strengthen and build it up with unusual rapidity. The Liver is one of j the principal regula tors of the human bo- U* dy; aud w hen it per forms its functions ■ Well, tho powers are fully developed. The! stomach is almost en tirely dependent on f the healthy action of tho Liver for the per- *. forraance of its func tions; when the atom- ijr ach is at la*ilt, the bowels are at fault, | aud the whole system ‘.tifters in consequence of one organ—the Liver—having ceased; fvj to do its duty. For the diseases of that organ, one of the pro prietors’ has made it /*\ his study, in a practice of more than twenty years, to find some remedy wherewith to counteract the many de ran ge men ts to js*j which it is liable. To prove that this remedy is at last found, any person troubled ~ with Liver Cos m plaint, in any of itw rH forms, has but to try a bottle, and conviction W is certain. These Gums remove u all morbid or bad mat ter in.-m the system, supplying in their place a healthy flow ol \JA bile, invigorating the stomach, causing food to digest well, puri fy ing the blood giving tone and health to the whole machine W ry, removing the cause of tho disease—effect- L ing a radical cure. Bilious attacks are are cured, and, what is better, prevented, H by the occasional use of the Liver Invigo- rator. One dose after eating J is sufficient to relieve the stomach and pro- Sj vent the food from rising unu souring. * Only one dose taken; , , before retiring, pre vent* Nightmare. m On 13’ one dose taken -■* at night, loosens the bowels gently, and.j cures Costive ness. One dose taken after! m each meal will cure Dyspepsia. One dose of two tea-spoonfuls will al ways relieve Sick ~ Headache. One bottle taken for ** ! female obstruction re moves the cause of the . , disease, and makes a per Act cure. ly Only one dose iiumc- diately relieves Chol ic, while i One dose, often re- J jpeated, is a sure cure for Cholera Morbus, O and a preventive of Cholera. * Only one bottle ij needed to throw out of the system tho effects j r”l of medicine after a long sickness. One bottle taken for r*\ Jaundice removes all sallowness or un- Vii natural color from the skin. i One dose taken a /*\ short timo before eat ing gives vigor to the appetite, and makes food digest well. One dose often re- peated, cures Chronic Diarrhoea in its worst; forms, w'hile Summer and Bowel complaints; yield almost to tho first dose. i One or two doses | ;Y> cures attacks caused by Worms in Cliil r dren; j*afer, or speedier rein- ody iu the world, as it never fails. j Lj j A few bottles cures Dropsy, by exciting the absorbents. We take pleasure iu Q recommending this medicine as a proven- tive for Fever and Agile, Chill Fevei, , , and all Fevers of a Bilious Type. Ifcoper- m a, os with certainty, and thousands are wil- *- ling to testify to its wonderful virtues. , All who used it are giving their unanimous tes timony in its favor. &ir*Mix water in the mouth with the luvigora tor, and swallow both together. THE LIVER IN VIGO RATOR Isa Scientific Medical Discovery, and is daily woik ingjeurea almost too great for belief. It cures as if by magic, even tho first dose giving benefit, and seldom more than one bottle is required to cure any kind of Liver Complaint, from the worst Jaun dice or Dyspepsia to a common Headache, all of which are the result of a DISEASED LIVER.
