DALLY’ SUjST. Saturday Morning, Feb. 14, 1859. To Advertisers. We state for the information of advertisers, that the Daily Sun has a circulation in the City of j Colntubus equal to tho combined circulation of all other dailies in the city. The country circulation of tho Sun also exceeds any daily in tho city. A word to tho wise is Hniliciont. To Subscribers. Tlioso of our subscribers receiving their papers j with a cross marked opposite their names, will know that their term of advance payment expires with tho number hearing it. For County Treasuser. The steamer Wave arrived atour wharf yesterday afternoon with a good freight. She will leave on Monday. Steamer Osvricliee. The steamer Oswichee arrived at our wharf yesterday forenoon, with about one thousand barrels of Now Orleans freight. She leaves for Apalachicola about 10 o'clock this morning. Tho river is in good boating order. The Marsh Troupe. The audience in attendance on Thurs day evening was much better than on any previous evening. The plays went off very well, Miss Louise, Miss Helen, and Master Cl. W. Marsh, performing their parts admirably. Little Georgo has no superior in Toodles, and really in no character in which we have seen him, does he fall behind any one, old or young. Miss Helen’s songs are as sweet as one could wish, and Miss Louise fills up her parts in a superior style. Mrs. Toodles, by little Jenny, was as well done as if older heads had been oast in the part. She is a child of fully as great promise as Master George. Her voice and manner all appear as natural as if she was in reality a very petite Mrs. Toodles. This evening will be presented that legendary story of the “Forty Thieves,” and wo look for another good house.— None will be disappointed who visit them. Prof. Duesherry. We copy the following notice of this gentleman, from the Quincy, (Fla.) Re public : This accomplished teacher has com menced another school in our town, for the benefit and pleasure of our citizens. Prof. D. is certainly a fine teacher of dancing,—and is a gentleman, morally and collectively. We have seen in many of our exchanges, from several cities and places where he has taught, notices from the Editorial fraternity, who speak of him in the highest terms. lie seems to have given entire satisfaction, both as regards his instruction, discipline, char acter, and rfiorals ; and we think it would be advisable for parents and guardians, who desiro that their children should be come graceful, polite and accomplished— (and there are few who do not wish them to be so) —should, when they are availed of a superior teacher and a gentloman, which they nro in tho presenco of Prof. D., demonstrate their appreciation by ex tending to him their patronage. And we would advise the young men of Quincy, —if they desiro to be moral, polite and agreable, they should seek young ladies’ society; and the best chance they may have of being thrown into ladies’ compa ny, will be to join the class of Prof. D. Prof. Duesbcrry is now in our city, and proposes to open a school to teach tbo very desirable accomplishment of danc ing. See his advertisement in another column. Rev. J. R. Graves, The Graves branch of the First Baptist Church, at Nashville, has called a council of the Conoord Association, to assemble in that city on tho Ist of March next, to re-try tho charges preferred against Rev. J. R. Graves, and which chargers were sustained by the Ilowell wing of the Church. C HARLEM’ LONDON CORDIAL GIN. THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY LONDON GIN IMPORTED. This Qin, distilled in London from aound Bar ley, under the aurvoillance of the British Ex cise Laws, 1 delicately flavored with a tinc ture of tho Italian Juniper Berry, and some of the most valuable reatoratives of tho Vogetaldo Kingdom, rundcriug it, in tho opinion of the most eminent medical men, tho purest and safuat stimulant or diuretic drink In uso. It is a delicious tonic, of a soft and delicate fla vor, differing entirely from any other Gin, and devoid of that harsh, acrid taste, which renders j the article known as Holland Gin or Schnapps so objectionable. Though not intended as a medicine, it is recom mended by physicians generally in cases of Dyb piraiA, Gout, Kuzumatisk, Dropbv, Ghavkl, Colic, Cholira, Fkvlr and Aquz, Stricturi, Diseases of j tho Urixary Oroavs, the Kipxeys and the Bow- j ils, Nervous Debility, Ac., whilst tho weaker sex will find by its adoption a sure relief from those distressing annoyances which frequently attend their delicate organization. Dr. Valentine Mott, of New York, tho highest medical authority, pronounces Charles’ Loxdos Cordial Gin “not only superior to any other, but the best article of the kiud he has ever seen.’’ It is peculiarly adapted to settlers in the South ern and Western States, as .veil as for travollera exposed to changes of water and air. For sale in quarts at seventy-five cents, and piut3 thirty-eight cents, by alt Druggists, Grocers, Fruiterers and Country Merchants. Beware of imitations. Buy only CHARLES’. NONE OTH ER 18 IMPORTED. May bo had in Columbus of J. S. PEMBERTON A CO., BROOKS A CHAPMAN, ACEE A IVERSON. EDMUND O. CHARLES, importer, -40 Broadwny, New York. April TANARUS, 1858-ly. Correspondence of the Charleston Courier. Washington, Fob. 9, 1859. Tho third caucus of democratic mem bers of Congress, called for the purposo of consultation upon tho financial ques tion, was held last night. About fifty members were present, of whom only ten or twelvo were from Northern States; among whom were Messrs. Cochrane, Sickles, Taylor, of New York, and Grocs bcck, of Ohio. Mr. Crawford, of Georgia, brought in a report from tho Committee, appointed at the last caucus to consider tho mode of retrenching Government ex penditures. The report concluded with a resolution declaring that the expenditures bo re- 1 duced to the level of the actual receipts, ; and that tho Treasury notes heretotore i authorised be ro issuable for two years. Tho report proposes that the Light llouso establishment be made self sus- j taining; that the Congressional Globe bo abolished ; that the Navy Yard appropri- | ations be cut down to one-third of tho j former amount; that the Postoffice De- I partment bo mado self-sustaining; that tho franking privilege be limited to two | series ; that the ocean mail steamer ser vice be made self-susiaining; that tho const survey bo suspended, and the forti fication system be discontinued; and that the expense of collecting tho revenue be reduced by the aggregation of collec tion districts, and discharging officers, &c. 15y this plan it was proposed to save eleven millions. Mr. Crawford estimated that the present tariff would yield fifty six millions, and tho public lands seven millions. Mr. Stephens, of Georgia, repeated his former declaration, that the entire annual expenditure should not exceed forty millions. The Northern members objected to the report, and protested against tho resolu tions for retrenchment. Another caucus was proposed and objected to. Groesbeck said this was merely a Southern caucus, and not in favor of the views of the Demo cratic party. Friday the caucus ad journed sine die, and without taking a vote on the report and resolutions. Mr. Cobb’s letter meets the views of the Southern free trade and retrenchment members, and is very vexatious to the President and the whole body of Northern members. There is some talk of Mr. Cobb’s resignation, but there is just as little probability that the President him self will resign. The Union of this morning has an article on “the Congressional dilemma,” which appears to represent the Presi dent’s views. It favors an increase of the tariff, and declares that tho government expenditures cannot be reduced below sixty-five millions. It is not probable that Congress can consent to an increase of the tariff or to retrenchment, or to an other loan. Tlie Ballad, of tlxe Fluid !
