Beware of War Rumors. Augusta, April I.— Telegraph reports from persons not conncotod with the As sociated l’ress, were sent out from Wash ington aud New York on yesterday, an nouncing that the President of the United States had receivod special advices that war had commenced iu Europo, aud that tho armies were moving. As soon as this report reached the Agent of tho Associated Press, in this oity, he promptly communicated it back to Washington, and requested cither a confirmation or repudiation of it. Tho answer carno back that there was no foun dation for it. Tho President of the Uni tod States had no later intelligence from Europo than had been communicated throughout tho country by the Associated Press. It is legitimate enough for tho public to ontcrlain their own opinions as the probabilities of peace or war in Europe, but it is not right to spread those opin ions beforo tho country under the color ing of facts sustained by special dis patches sent to or received by the Presi dent. Lord Napier knows nothing about tho commencement of hostilities in Eu rope, nor does any person elso in this country. —Atiyusta Chronicle. The Trial.
