Obeil Lee, the man charged with hav
ing forged a note on Hampton Bryan and
Lovert Lee, of Clayton, Ala., was arrested
iu Montgomery on Saturday last, as ho
was about to take passage for Mobile on
tho evening boat. The Advertiser says
that “Marshal Hall had nothing to guide
him in arresting the fellow, except the
description ; but his extravagance in bet
ting at billiards, aud his large pecuniary
donations to tho femmes du pave, convinced
tlie Marshal that Obed was the man he
had been looking for. Shortly after his
arrest he made a partial confession of his
guilt to the Marshal.” lie also made an
ineffectual attempt to escape from the
jail on Tuesday morning.

After the retreat of tho Austrians from
Bologna, the Cardinal Legate departed,
and tho municipality proclaimed Victor
Kumnuel Dictator.
The King of Sardinia publicly extolled
Garibaldi’s deeds, nnd awarded him a
military gold medal. The IVeimer Ztitung
officially announces that the Emperor of
Austria will forthwith assume tho com
mand in chief of the Austrian army ;
and that he Lad ordered the army to a
positiou, which was to be occupied in the
most advantageous manner.
The Austrians having evacuated Mo
dena, were in full retreat towards the
river Oglio.

Lord Palmerston was making good pro
gress in the formation of his cubinet. An
authentic list was expected on the day of
the steamer’s sailing. It was rumored that
Lord Elgin Imd been appointed to the
Colonial office ; Cobden to the Board of
Trade ; nnd Gladstone, Secretary for India.
An order bad been issued for tho mobi
lization of I lie Prussian army.
Liverpool General Markets. —Flour was
very dull, and with a declining tendeucy.
There were no buyers. Wheat dull, and
declining. Corn very dull, and declining.
Provisions were dull but steady. Sugar
linn - Beef steady. Pork dull, but steady.
Lard dull, ltaeon quiet.
London General Markets. —Wheat do
dining. Sugar quiet. Tea steady. Cof
fee firm. Rice cpiiot. The prospects of
a good harvest were considered favorable.

New Orleans, June 27.—The conduc
ta, with the five millions of specie, ar
rived at Jalapa on the 10th June, hut was
detained nearly a week by Gen. Robles
for an examination. The conducta again
started on the 16th under a permit from
Robles, but when near the National
Bridge, Robles overtook him, and ordered
the return of the specie to Jalapa, on the
authority of Gen. Miratnon. The con
ducta refused, and ordered it shipped
aboard of a British war vessel off Sacri
fioios. The British commander refused
to receive the money, notwithstanding
the orders of the F,nglish and French
Ministers.
Tho conducta remains at Biconada un
der llobles’ orders.
Dc Gollado is at Vera Cruz.
Mirnmon has collected half a million
dollars in duties on the property in charge
of the conducta.
All English subjects have been banished
from the Capitol, aud the British Minis
ter, Otway, has acquiesced in tho order.

New Orleans, Jane 26.—Miles Taylor,
the former member of Congress, and nnti-
Slidellian in his opinions, was nominated
on .Saturday lust, for Congress, by the
Democratic party of the second Congres
sional district of Louisiana.
Cuter from Havana.
Savannah, June 27. —The steamer Isa
bel touched off Tybee to-day. She brings
Havana and Key West dates to the 25th
instant.
Sugar at Havana was quiet and un
changed. Molasses was dull, and quo
tations nominal. Freights were dull.
Exchange on New York was at from 3
to 5, and on New Orleans ut from 4J to
5J per cent, premium.

A meeting was held in Boston on I burs
day lust, to receive the report of a com
mittee appointed to solicit subscriptions
for tho establishment of a line of steamers
from Boston to Savannah or Charleston.
The amount requisite was stated to be
$200,000, and the committee reported
that they had secured subscriptions to
the amount of $150,000, and if the com
pany cbose to make Savannah their South
ern terminus, they had tho promise of
subscriptions to the amount of $25,000
from that cily, leaving $16,000 to be
made up by Boston. Whereupon Mr.
Abbot Lawrence proposed that tho re
quired amount be mude up on the spot,
and the sum of $16,000 was soon sub
scribed, making $175,000 for Boston, and
relying on Charleston or Savannah for
the $20,060. It seems undetermined, at
present, which of the two Southern ports
is to he made the terminus, but it seems
to us worthy of nn effort on tho part of
either to secure the increased trade, and
the enterprise is in that condition that it
can bo secured to the port which sub
scribes most liberally, and presents the
greatest inducements. As soon as the
$25,000 is supplied, the Company is to
be organized aud commence operations. —

A C hinese Wedding.
On Saturday afternoon, the nuptials of
some Celestial young folks camo off in
great style. Three carriages were drawn
up In front of tho moon-eyed bride’s resi
dence, on Jackson street, which were
soon filled by the dusky-skinned, pug
nosed, fiat faced bride and bridegroom,
with their wrinkled, parchment-fleshed
’ parents and friends. The bridal cortege
trotted on at a brisk pace, and followed
by a largo crowd of laughing ’Melican
men, to Sacramento street, where the
nuptial party dismounted, and the matri
monial knot was tied in the Chinese
Chapel, literally, for the ceremony was
performed by the knotting together of
the man’s pig tail and the womaii’s fat
