Amoug other gratifying evidences of the returning life and vivacity of the fall and winter season, wo are rejoiced to note the renewal of periodical parades of our military companies. Yesterday after noon that well-drilled and regulated company, the Columbus Guards, Captain Paul J. Semmes commanding, turned out and paraded through the principal streets, to the music of the “ear-piercing fife and soul-stirring drum.” They made a highly respectable appearance, aud went through tho various evolutions with celerity and precision. Captain Semmes is an accomplished officer, a graduate of the Academy at West Point, and has devoted himself to the study of military tactics con amove. The military companies of Columbus are the pride of the city. ♦ The Great English Remedy. SIR JAMES CLARK’S CELEBRATED FEMALE PILLS, Prepared from a Prescription of Sir J. Clarke , M. This is the lesult Os perse- ‘ vering energy in its introduction, sustained by u determination adopted at the outset, and never for an instant departed from, that its original purity and excellence should continue to the end. The common fate, attendant upon all such suc cessful efforts, has overtaken tho manufacturer. It is imitated by unscrupulous imposters, and an inferior and spurious article is palmed off upon the community, to the great detriment of the pub- j lie as well as injury to the manufacturer, both in emolument and well-earned repute. Every effort has been made to guard against this piracy by a Copyright of the Label, and by peculiar shape of the bottle. I caution the public against this imposition upon * them and upon my rights, and I earnestly desire I such information from those who may possess it, by having been victimized or otherwise, as will i onable me to protect the public and myself by prosecution to the utmost extent of the law. The genuine “Daly’s Aromatic Valley Whisky” is put up in cases of 12 bottUs each, with light yel low Label, aud sealed with yellow’ wax, with the proprietor’s stamp on the w’ax. aud sac simile sig nature of the proprietor on the label. All other articles are imitations. Consumers can depend upon getting a pure arti- j cle when they buy the Valley Whisky, as it is sold by the bottle and case only. WM. 11. If it is the case, as a “cloud of wit nesses” can testify, he ought to be patronized. Wo have nothing particular to notice in rep Aid to our market for the past week. The trail sac tiona have been on a very limited scale, in const*, quonce of planters limits upon their cotton. 1 hese limits buyers did not feel satisfied in coining up to, hence the limited amount of transactions. There has been little or no change in prices du ring the week, and the quotations given below lmve been the prevailing rates. True, there have been cases where fancy lots, selected by stmt buyers, have brought a shade more than we quote, but such sales could not bo considered strictly legitimate. Planters should bear this fact in mind in receiving account of sales from their fac tors. While their crops nio not select, sheet buy ers make up fancy Middling or Strict Middling lots by taking out a bale at a time from street loads purchased, and thuslorm wliat is called iuu* ey or selected lots, and which are sold for a shade better prices than the planters crop as it runs. The advices from Europe during (ho week have not been of a clnu ncter to inspire confidence in prices or Induce buyers to enter the muikot; there have been a regular series of declines and with very small sales. This of course, lias great effect in forcing down prices, lu regard to a ro turn to former prices we are unable to express any : opiuiou; but do not hope for much better rates than the present. There is very little doubt but we will have a crop fully equal to last year’s, aud if such bo the fact, prices are bound to rule low i for ihe wholo year. If we should advise planters to any course it would bo to sell. There is risk in | holding and a certainty in selling; nevertheless, wo do not desire any person to rest their action i upon cur views. We give the following as the j closing quotations of our market on Saturday af- I ternoon: Middling 9% to 10; Strict Middling 10 to Good Middling 10)4 1° 10% Middling Fair nominal.
