Purchasers have rare inducements presented to them. We in vite attention to the advertisement else where. S > BlsHop Pierce. Advices from Galveston of the 18th, state that Bishop Pierce arrived at San Antonio on the 1-lth inst., by the over land mail from California. He was to leave in a few days for the Conference at Goliad. Tho Bishop’s health was not good, but was improving. - Professor and Madame Love. By reference to advertisement it will be seen that this accomplished Magician and Ventriloquist, with Madamo Love, will give three entertainments at Tem perance Ilall, commencing on to-morrow evening. The papers of New Orleans, Mobile, and elsewhere, speak in the most flattering terms of their performances. Let them be greeted with a full house. America Illustrated. We have seen the prospectus of the above work, which is a history of North and South America from its first discov ery to the present Administration. It embraces an account of the early discov ery by the Northmen, Spaniards, Portu guese, French, English, Butch, &c., with their sufferings in founding the Colouies; wars with the Indians; an account of the various revolutions of the several Colouies, with the subsequent history of the Republics thus established, by Henry Brownell, A. M., in two volumes. An ad ditional attraction of the work is its beautiful steel engravings, by the first artists of the country. The work we re gard as very valuable, and a decided im provement on any previous history of America. Eds. Sun : I fiud myself announced in your issue of Saturday morning as a can didate for Mayor of this city. I also find myself announced in the other daily papers over different signatures. But, with many, thanks to those friends whose kind partiality has induced them to put forward my uamo for this honora ble and responsible office, I take this oc casion to state publicly, that I am no candidate for the office, aud request that you will at once withdraw my name from your columns. Respectfully, D. B. THOMPSON. Tlie “ Baldwin Blues.” Among other Military Companies that tendered their aid to Gov. Wise, during the late excitement at Charlestown, were the Baldwin Blues. In our last we pub lished the correspondence between Capt. Colquitt, of this city, and the Governor of Virginia. Here is a copy of the dispatch sent by Capt. Boles : Milledgeville, Nov. 21, 1859. To Gov. Wise , Jiiclun'jnd , Vd. : The services of tho “Baldwin Blues” are hereby tendered to you, if any emer gency should nrise neediug their ser vices. G. P. BOLES, Capt. B. B. To which the following answer was re-- turned : Richmond, V.v, Nov. 22, 1859. To Capt. G. i'. Doles , MiUedgeville , Got.: Thanks from the Governor for your offer of the “Baldwin Blues,” but he has troops enough in Virgiuia. GEO. W. MUNFORB, Secretary Commouwealth. Affairs at Brownsville—Gathering of Troops—The City base. To Mr. Hudson, the purser of the Ari zona, says the New Orleans Picayune of the 22d inst., we are indebted for the following report of the latest news from Brownsville: The steamship Arizona, R. N. Smith, master, left New Orleans ou the lltli inst., for Brazos direct, and arrived there on the 14th inst., after encountering a severe gale on 12th and 13th, with fifty United States troops under Capt. J. B. j Ricketts, Ist Artillery, and on arrival learned that Captain Tobin and eighty Texas Rangers had arrived on the 12th. j On the 15th, United States revenue eulter ; Bodge, Capt Harby, arrived at Brazos j from lndi&nola, with 15 men, who stated that they had heard that Brownsville was taken. On coming up, found New j Orleans papers of the 13th, containing a ! statement sworn to by one Miller, that the city bad been taken after a desperate battle, and the Americans tied across the Rio Grande. This is a falsehood. There i has been no fight since the attack on j Cortinas’s camp ; nor has any one been killed or wounded sinco. This report started at Corpus Christi, and has crea ted a panic over Western Texas, and Gen. Twiggs has ordered Fort Morrill to be re garrisoned. Capt. l’eunington, of the schooner J. H. Toone, now lying in Bra- i zos, started via Point Isabel, with an old j Mexican, and they were taken prisoners, ; but released. Some unknown persons, j feeling brave alter the arrival of the Rangers, took out Cortinas’s second in ; command, and hung him secretly, much against the wishes of the citizens. The fuct of thero being no trouble as reported, is known by many merchants of Matamoras and Brownsville, who came up on the Arizona, and by J. B. Preuu, Esq., who has been in tho city almost from tho commencement of hostilities. The forces uow in Brownsville aro 30 Texan Hangers, under Capt. Tobin, 43 United States troops under Capt. Rick etts, 15 men from cutter Bodge, 50 Mexi can troops, and 100 citizens—293 men As regards the raids on the ranches of Love and others, we have no informa lion, but the Mexican authorities, in stead of helping Cortiaas, the 50 men have been in Brownsville since the first outbreak. The men from the cutter, and the U. S. troops went up on the night of the 1 Gtb, and Capt. Tobin intended, on their arrivnl, to pursue Cortinas into his stronghold. Snppoaed to be Drowned. Capt. William Austin, of the ichooner W A. Kain, on big way to the East l’ass yesterday, picked up a small sail boat near the Uap, capsized, containing chick en coops, &c. The boat is supposed to have belonged to a man by the name of Charles Craft, a stevedore, who has been trading during the summer and fall be tween this place and Shell Point.—Apa lachicola Advertiser, SPECIAL NOTICES. puKtnr yoob RUBIFY YOUR PURIFY YOUII I'URIFY YOUR PURIFY YOU K PURIFY YOUR DWELLINGS liV USING DWELLINGS B V USING DWELLINGS BY USING DWELLINGS BY USING DWELLINGS BY USING DWELLINGS BY USING THE GREAT THE 0 It E A T THE GREAT THE OREAT TH E (1 R E A T THE GREAT DISINFECTANT, DISINFECTANT, DISINFECTANT, DISINFECTANT, DISINFECTANT, DISINFECTANT, PROFESSOR DARBY’S PROFESSOR DARBY’S 1 PROFESSOR DARBY’S PROFESSOR DA RB Y ’S PROFESSOR DARBY’S PROFE SS 0 R DARBY’S FLUID!
