The largest audience we ever saw as sembled on a similar occasion at Temper ance Hall, turned out Thursday night to witness Edwin Booth as Richard 111, iu the great Shakespearian tragedy. The reputation of his father for excellence iu this role; the high expectations of his large auditory, were, with other circum stances, well calculated to rouse to the highest pitch of exertion, the young as pirant moving with rapid strides to the loftiest pinnacle of dramatic fame. Ilis conception of the character could hardly be better, nor could its rendering be sur passed by any living actor. Mr. Stetson, as well as others who sus tained the principal characters, acted their parts in a very spirited style. To-uight will be pre-ented Schiller's romantio play of the Robbers, in which Mr. Booth will personate Charles de Moor. As it will be the last night of his engage ment with the Managers, let him be greet ed with a full house. Suit by a Husband for Seducing and Alienating the Affections of Ills Wife. In the Supreme Court this morning, before Judge Hear, trial was commenced in the case of William A Cochrane vs. George L. l’erry, H. F. Durant and H. C Hutchins appeared as counsel for the plaintiff; J. fa. Abbott and Charles F. Choate for the defendant. The action is brought by the plaintiff, charging the defendant with seducing and alienating the affections of his wife, Frances E. Cochrane, and damages are claimed in the sum of $40,000. Mr. Hutchins, in his opening remarks, gave a brief history of the case. The plaintiff, a merchaut of this city, was married in 1853 to Frances JO. Fowle, daughter of Charles Fowle, then of this city, but now of West Roxbury. He kept house in Shawmut avenue several years, but his business improving he moved to East Hrookline street, upon the south side of Franklin Square. On the day in question, he agreed to take his wife to West Rcxbury to see her sick mother, at six o’clock iu the after noon, but hearing that her mother was worse he went home at an earlier hour and found the parlor locked. The de fendant was found inside under peculiar circumstances ; that Mr. Cochrane caught hold of bis collar, when the defendant drew a pistol, and soon after, without further molestation, left the house. Mr. Cochrane took his wife home to her mother that night. The next day she removed her things from the house, and has not been there since. Mr. Cochrane broke up housekeeping. He had but three courses left to pursue; to be quiet, and thus leave it to be inferred that he hail wronged his wife; to shoot the se ducer, ns they do in other climates; or to bring this suit. Sixteen witnesses were then called and sworn for the plaintiff. One witness, a book-keeper in the em ploy of Mr. Cochrane, testified that he boar led with Mr. C., and that the family was a happy one. Mr. C., after the oc currence in April last, was much ngita ted, and walked the room all night. Since then his health is impaired, and he is not the man of business he was before. —Boston Traveller, Gth. Statistic* of Headaclte. The Medical Times and Gazette con tains some interesting medical data, oh taiued by inquiries made in the usual course of professional experience, con cerning tho causes of headache. Os ninety cases cited, seventy six were fe males—a number which establishes pretty strongly the fact testified to by most of the old writers, that females are more frequent sufferers. Os the seventy-six females forty were single. The predispo sition in the case of females is believed to originate in the nervous system —suscep- tible of nervous disorder being much of tener found in the female tiiau in the female subject. It is likely to exist in organisms which evince a capability of so muoli fineness and delicacy of percep tion, united with so much pronetiess to emotional excitement nnd in which the functions of organic life are observed to be so readily wrought by passing states of thought, sensation and emoiiuii. Os the exoiting causes, emotional dis turbance has the highest number. Out of tho ninety-nine cases fifty-three de clared this to be one of the cau-es of their attacks, forty-eight also con-idered that ntmospberio states were to be blamed, and twenty five specified thunder. In re gard to inheritance of the liability, in nineteen cases the mother is mentioned, in nine the father, and in twelve both parents; in all, forty gave explicit evi donee of hereditary predisposition, nnd a lew others mentioned cases in collate ral branches. Out of the ninety cases only nineteen blamed their diet. As to tho influence of climate, twenty-nine seem very clear that they are nt least lia ble to attacks of headache in places where tho air is dry nnd bracing; six commend cold atmosphere, and six con demn it; eight praise warm atmosphere, and three dislike it; six are in favor of sea air, and four are adverse to it. Fa tigue is mentioned as an exciting cause by thirty-two. TREMENDDLS SACRIFICES! m 50,000 worm of wy ijUduSj Boots and Shoes, Hats and Caps, CLOTHING-, &c., &c., &c. AT NEW YORK COST! AT G. W.
