DAIiY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY. IN this ago of adulterated and deleterious Li quors, it is a source of satisfaction to be able i to introduce to public notice the above article—an j article of unquestioned purity, and possessing no j qualities except such ns have the most favorable I influence on the human constitution. A few rods of soil on the banks of the Rhine produces the grapo which will flourish nowhere i *lse, from whose juice proceeds the “Johaunia berg.” the choicest wine in the world. A few acres of land in Cuba produces a tobacco, the flavor and quality of which, when manufac tured into cigars, aie incomparably superior to that ot uny other soil. And a narrow strip of land In the parish of Natcliitocheo, in Louisiana, bus long supplied the world with a super-excellent article of snuff, from such tobacco as cannot be induced to grow else where. In like mannor it lias long been known that a limited territory, lying in the valley < f the Mo nongahela river, exclusively brings forth a ryo of propertied so marked and peculiar that its distilla tion produces a Whisky of such superlative char acter as placts it beyond rivalry. By a process recently discovered, and now known only to my manufacturer, the grain from the choicest spot of this favored locality is made to yield the Aromatic Valley Whisky, with which no other cau stand an instant s com parison. 1 have no apprehension of being accused of pub lishing unwarrantable, or even exaggerated enco miums, to any who will first subject uiy Whisky to test. It is now tlio standard articlo at all the first class Hotels and Clubs in the city of Now York, and wherever it is introduced it at once assumes its leading position, is AWARDED THE BALM OF SUPERIORITY, aud the demand for it becomes a thing established. Its medicinal properties are such, that while its immediate effects are pleasant and grateful, it ex ercises the happiest permanent inllueuce upon the constitution. I have analyzed a sample or “Daly’s Aromatic Valley Whisky,” and find it to he a pure article, of fine flavor, and without any deleteiious admix ture. JAMES B. CHILTON, M. D , Chemist. Splendid Auroral Display off Cape Horn—Tile Southern Lights Seen from the “Soulhern Cross.” The sliip Southern Cross arrived at San Francisco on tbo 22u of October from Boston. The Southern Cross, under Capt. Howe, left Boston ou the 10th of June, making the passage in 134 days. She passed the Straits of Le Ma re, August the lOlb, be ing sixty days to Cape Horn. Then she of course got the wind in her teeth, and being reduced to her small canvass, the stout ship battled (he elements for twenty three days off the Cape, the great er part of the time iu heavy gales of wind frequent rain, hail and enow squalls. On the night of the 2d September, du ring a tremendous gale, a wonderful phe nomena manifested itself. The rare spectacle of an aurora australia, or Southern lights, was witnessed. It com menced about 1£ o’clock in tbe morning and incrcnsed iu splendor until towards daylight when it gradually faded before the light of day. Our informant states that the whole heavens were of a deep red, which color was reflected in the ocean, upon which a fearful sea was run ning. These wero surun unted by combs, not of the usual white, but almost blood red. Some of the crew were much frightened. Once during the night a tremendous hail and snow squall bustled upon the ahip. Through tho whole of this the Uames assumed tbe same roseate hue, aud wheu a spray flew over the ship it fell to leeward iu ruddy showers. Be tween the squalls in the clear places in tbe sky, the mysterious lights wero seen shooting up in spiral streaks nearly to the zenith —now UasLing out iu the in tense darkness with meteoric brilliancy, looming up against the horizon as with the blaze of some terrible conflagration, so that the glare was reflected upon the sails. Capt. Howe and his officers say that they have never witnessed anything equalling this display for magnificence. During the gale, several times at night brilliant comotantt, or balls of electric fire, appeared flickering at the uiast-heads, yard-arms and other salient points.
