Thousand Dollars, to produce engravings really
beautiful , as well as the best portraits, and that
shall be splendid ornaments to any parlor.
OPINIONS THAT CAN BE RELIED ON.
The Editor of the New York Observer says:
“These engravings are genuine works of art—the
likenesses are admirable. The portrait of Mr.

JL leading Northern uien of science, such as Dr.
Chilton, tho noted New York Chemist. A friend
of ours who understands such things, tells us this
“ Aroinutic” ia a good “ Aromatic;” and us he i*
reliable, we cau safely recommend this Valley
Whisky to those iu need of a good article.
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY.
From the New Orleans Croscent.
Not a particle of strychuine in it —the best we
have tasted for many a day.
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY W HISKY.
From the Daily True Delta, New’ Orloaus.
Though uot much of a judge, we may say, aud
we aro endorsed by friends who are, that the
“Aromatic Valley Whisky,” the very poetry of
“Old Monongahela,” manufactured by Wm. 11.
Daly, is uuequaled for ‘ Purity” and “Flavor” by
any in the market.
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY.
From the Memphis Daily Appeal.
It is pronounced by good judges to be free from
all deleterious or foreign substances, and conse
quently it should take, the place of ull poisonous
admixtures, which exercise so unwholesome an
intlueuce upon those who use them, where they
are consumed at all. The noxious beverages that
are generally intended for Whisky aro an imposi
tion aud a curse.
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY.
From the Georgia Citizen.
It is a pleasant, unctuous stimulant, peculiarly
adapted to the cure of invalids who need a pure
tonic , without much of the alcoholic principle.
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY.
From the Galveston Era.
We have no hesitation in pronouncing it equal,
if uot superior, to any we have ever drank.
• _____
DALY’S AROMATIC VALLEY WHISKY.
From the Memphis Eagle and Enquirer.
It has boon pronounced by the highest scientific
and medical authority a pure and healthy stimu
lant, entirely free from deleterious admixture.
We can recommend it with perfect confidence to
those who require un alcoholic stimulant for
medicinal purposes. “Daly’s Valley Whisky” is
superior to Uiu,Cordial, Kreuch Brandy, Port and
Madeira Wines, and indeed all other varieties of
spirits which are sold in this market, for not one
of them can be found in a pure state. No iutelli
gent physician would have the rashuess to pro
scribe “Port Wine’’ or “French Brandy” for a pa
tient, when it ia patent to all the world that they
are not to be had, except t\y base compounds, in
the Mississippi Valley.
I would recommend it as suitable for modicinal
and public purposes.
CUAS. T. JACKSON,
State Assayer, Boston.
It is without any deleterious admixture.
JAB. R.CHILTON, M. D., Now York.
Entirely free from adulterating ingredients, so
frequently used.
JAS. J. MAPES, New York.
49** Consumerscan depend upon getting a pure
article when they buy the Valley Whisky, as it is
sold by tho bottle and cans only.

WE, the undersigned, importers and Jobbers
iu the City of Charleston, in view of the
present excited state of the c- untry. deem it pro
per to bring to the notice of tho interior Mer
chants the claims we have to their patronage and
custom. The majority of us have been long estab
lished in business, aud from our experience are
well acquainted with the wuntß of this section of
country. All of us hold sentiments in common
on the agitating question of the day—slavery;
and all of us desire, as fur us practicable, to be
come commercially independent of the North.
We have no desire to underrate tho energy and
enterprise of the Merchants of Northern cities,
but we claim tube able to supply goods iu our re
spective lines on as favorable terms, both as to
price and credit, as the merchants of auy city in
the Union. We have facilities for obtaining goods
from Europe not surpassed by any, und orr im
portations from abroad ure very large, notwith
standing the reports to the contrary, circulated by
those who have no knowledge of what they affirm,
or whose interest prompts them to mislead
American goods we obtain from the manufac
turers on as favorable terms as any .Tubbing Mer
chants of the Northern cities. Why then should
wo not be able to sell on as favorable terms as
others?
Wo arc able and determined to do so, and all
we ask of you is, to try this market, lay aside the
prejudice—-for it is only a prejudice—that your
customers prefer goods from New York to those
from Charleston, and build np aud encourage
your own Beaporis ami your own Meicuuuts. If
we cannot do what wo profess, you will be sub
jected to very little inconvenience, for opportu
nities of leaving by railway or steamer are offered
every twelve hours.
Our Stocks will he complete by the Ist of Feb
ruary next, and it remains to be seen bow many
of those who huvo heretofore purvhased all their
goods in Northern cities will give Charleston a
trial this Spring.

Steam Fire Engines.
The New York Journal of Commerce is
loud in its praises of its steam over the
hand engines, and says of the Beekman
streot fire :
When every hand engine was clogged
with ice, and the firemen were so stiff
with cold that they could hardly clasp
their fingers on the brakes, the steam
aparatus worked on without cessation and
with undiminished power. Although
every engine in the seventh and eighth
district was on tho ground, it is Dot too
much to say that tho “Niagara” and
“Manhattan” did as much useful work us
all of them put together. Towards the
oloso of the fire, when tho hand engines
had given out, the well directed streams
of tho steam apparatus saved a block of
buildings in Fulton-street, which would
otherwise have been consumed.
