The Criminal Docket was taken up yester day morning. Simeon Perry, under three several indictments for attempting to steal three negroes belonging to Gen. Bethune, Mr. Brinsfield and another was found guil ty as charged iu theindictmeut. The Stato was represented by W. D. Elam, Solicitor pro lem, and John A. Jones, Esq.; the de fense by Messrs. Hill, Thornton & In gram. The evidence, we hear, was con clusive of his guilt, and the jury were out but a short time. The trial of the case of Axom, indicted for the same offense, is now progressing. McCauley’s Marble Works. It is not often that we go out of the regular routine to notice any mau’s business, but there are occasions which render it a duty, at times. Such are the circumstances which dictate this notice of the Marble Works of Mr. Henry Me Cauley, of this city, located nearly oppo site onr office. But few Southern cities cau exhibit finer specimens of architectu ral skill, or better proficiency in sculp turing, than his yard shows. The fact that he has succeeded so well, is entirely attributable to his cmployiug nouebutthe . best of mechanics; men who understand i the profession, and faithfully follow it up. Added to his fine marble tomb stones, tablets and statuary, he has also a largo variety of iron railing, of the j most beautiful patterns, which he assures ! us he will put up on the most reasono | ble terms, os well as liis marble work. AVithiu the past few days Mr. JleCau- J ley has purchased the entire stock of goods of Mr. It. M. Aldworth, well known in this city as being a faithful workman; and as a merchant, keeping nothing but the best quality ot house fur- | nishing supplies. This stock is now of fered nt reduced prices. AVo priced some of his goods yesterday, and found lie was J carrying out his promise. Never was a better opportunity offered our citizens to supply themselves with substantial and useful articles at low prices, than now; auything from a jews harp to a wrought iron cook stove, —to soy uotbiug of the many protty, bright, sauce pans, chaf fing dishes, kerosene lumps, und lots of other pretties, which are useful. Read er, please excuso us for detaining you so long. Our excuse is that we are writing this for the ladies especially. —♦- America V. Knßland on Ike Turf. Tho London Racing Calendar compiles a summary of the raeeH lost and won by tho American horses duriug the season of 1850. It is certain that Mr. Ten Broeck has made a clear harvest for the year of over $300,000. All tho victories obtain ed by American horses in England, were obtained by tboso of Mr. Ten Brueck's stable. In the first year, one rsce was won by American horses ; in the second, five ; and in the one just ended, thirteen. On the 3d Mr. Buchanan was surround ed by his immediate family Miss Han ict Lane and his new private secretary, young James Buchanan, the son of the Rev. Edward Y. Buchanan of this city —and by such ladies as were visiting un der his roof. No matter how punctilious tho gentlemen were disposed to be, cere mony’ vunisbed in the crowd, and the most tender and sensitive of gentlest womanhood were compelled to receive, without a rnurwer, the rude embraces of men they never saw before. Trial of Mr yens. | Andrew Hunter, Esq., in a letter to ; George Sem.ott, Esq. of Boston, informs him that Stevens, one of the two remain ing Harper’s Ferry innirgents, will be j tried at Charlestown, Va., some time j Ji,“ nD B tlle winter, probably in January, i ihe tune, however, has not been fixed, j A letter from another source says: Slevcnsis an intelligent and powerfully built young man, of 28 years, who form | ® rl > belonged in Norwich, Conn- He was badly wounded during the attack on the armory, when he was dangerously shot receiving five balls in his body, three of which the surgeons could not extract. - ‘ ne v t in command tinder John Brown, and acted as drill master in the place of Col Forbes. He is to be tried on the same charges as Brown, and their mutual confidential relations were such that, at Brcwn s request, Stevens ocoupied the same cell with him through out his imprisonment. Robbery of a Traveler. Mr. Nenninger, a passenger from the East, informs us that upon Ins nrrival at the rail road depot, Friday night last, a person under pretence of conducting him to one of the hotels, led him to a house near the depot. Upon awaking next morning Mr. N. ascertained that he had been robbed of some §45 ors 47. Mr. N.’s trunk, wo further learn from him, was checked by an omnibus man, and deliv- ered to Mr. N. the following day on board a steamboat; but the trunk had been broken open and a blue-black velvet cloak valued at §lO3, .trimmed with gui pure lace, abstracted therefrom, together with a package of shirts and some other article?. Ibis double robbery is a source of delay and much annoyance to Mr. N., as he resides in Cuba, and is forced to remain here until lie can procure funds elsewhere to enable him to resume his journey. —Montgomery Mail of 10th. ♦ Sale of Negroes til Ifaldsvin County. Reader, although the rose may bloom ever so brightly in tho glowing cheek, the eye be ever so sparkling, the teeth be those of peals, if tho head is bereft of its covering, or the hair be snarled and shriveled, harsh and dry , or worse still, if sprinkled with gray, nuture will lose more than half her charms. Professor Wood’s Iluir Restorative, if used two or three times a week, will restore aud permanently secure to all such an ornament. Read the following aud judge. The writer of the first is the celebrated l*ian ist,Thalberg: New Yore, April 19,1868. Dr. Wood:— Dear Sir, —Permit me to express to you the obligations 1 am under for the entire res toration of my hair to its origiual color; about the time of my arrival in the United states it was rapidly becoming gray, bat upon the application of your “Hair Restorative” it soon recovtred its original hue. I consider your Restorative as a very wonderful invention, quite efficacious as well as ugreeable. J am, dear sir, yours truly, ti. TIIALIJKKG. “Dtrcif a’r GwYtrtDYDCT,” Welsh Newspaperoffico, 13 Nassau at., April 12. / Prof. O. J. Wood: —Dear Sir, —Rome month or six weeks ago I received a bottle of yoor Hair Restorative und gave it to my wife, who concluded to try it on her hair, little thinking at the time that it would restore She gray hair to its origiual color, but to her as well as my surprise, after a few weeks’ trial it has performed that wonderful •fleet by turning all tha gray hairs to a dark brown, at the same time beautifying and thicken ing the hair. I strougly recommend the above Restorative to all persons in want of such echsoge of their hair. CHARLES CARDKW. New York, July 25.1867. Prof. O. J. Wood :—With confidence do 1 recom mend your llair Restorative, as being the most efficacious article 1 ever saw. Since using your llair iteetorative, my hair aud whiskers, which were almost white, have gradually grown dark; and I now feel confident that a few more applica tions will restore them to their natural color. It also baa relieved me of all dandruff und unpleas ant itching, so common among persons who pers pire freely. J.G. KILBY. Chicago, 111., May 1,1857. Prof. Wood :—About two yeare ago my hair commenced falling off and turning gray; I was fast becoming bald, and hud tried many Remedies to no effect. I commenced using your hair Resto rative in January last. A few applications fast ened my huir firmly. It began to fill up, grow out, and turned hack to its former color, (black.) At this time it is fully restored to its original color, health, and appearance, aud I cheerfully recom mend its ue to all. J. D. IIOKH. The Restorative is put up in bottles of 3 sizes, vis: large, medium and small; the small holds ‘/ x a pint and retails for one dollar per bottle; the medium holds at least twenty per cent, more in proportion than the small, retails for two dollars per bottle; the large holds a quart, 40 per cent, more in proportion, and retails for $3 a bottle.
