We had the pleasure of an introduction to Mr. Henry G. Dantiu, the agent for the Parodi Opera Troupe, who will short ly visit our city. Mr. Dautin left for Montgomery this morning, to arrange for a brief season in that city. ♦ Consequence of Bad Company. The following sensible and pointed paragraph, is an extract from a private letter, of a New Yorker to a Southern house: The feeliug of bitterness existing through the State touching the Abolition move ment at the North, surpasses belief. I am confident that not half of the trade will go in that direction that ordinarily would were the Black Republicans to mind their own business. Never before did the hatred so prevail. There is a good deal of this feeling in Texas, but nothing compared to Mississippi, Alabama, Geor gia, and some parts of Louisiana, all of South Carolina, and parts of the other slave States. If reliable men at the North suffer in pocket in consequence, there must be no complaint, as it is the neces sary result ot being in bad company. Agency to Assist fugitive Slaves to iteturn Home. Tbe eutetprising Soutberucr who has opened an agency in Detroit, to assist Fu gitive Slaves to return home, says he has rnado such investigations in Canada, es pecially at Chatham and other places where Africans most congregate, to sat isfy him that large numbers of them are anxious and ready to return to their mas ters at the South if they only had the means, and he proposes to furnish them with transportation tickets and to send ,i :,i. „„ LUC IU IU CUlUpcbllj Wltu <IA u,g..uv, *00..... & to their owners for remuneration for benevolence. lie is evidently a man of nerve aud determination, and is possessed of the means to carry out his project. Tho fallowing is his circular address to tho colored population: Tho uudersigned, having made ar rangements at the South to furnish means to those of the colored population who are desirous of returning, has taken an office at No. 2 Desnoyer’s block, entran ces on Jefferson avenue aud Dates street, whore ho can be found from 10 a. m. lo Gp. m. Arrangements entered into with parties will be guaranteed beyond ques tion as to the strict fulfillment of all ob ligations. Parties desirous of returning can communicate with the undersigned, either personally or by letter. C. J. BROWN, Agent. There are numbers of the poor crea tures who are starving to death in conse quence of their inability to support them selves, and wo have no doubt that the new enterprise will have a successful run of business. Lout, Napoleon. A Paris letter writer thus describes Louis Napoloon on one of the spacious avenues of that imperial city: “Driving a pair of splendid bays at tached to a box wagon, with the reins in his own hands, aud haudiing them as though ho were accustomed to it, without auy outriders, equeries or guards, the Tlmperor Napoleon came along tho ave nue. He was dressed with a black over coat, and a hat which was of a tasliion of its own. The points of his moustache looked particularly sharp, and his ‘im perial’ us though it had just came from the barber’s. It required a steady hand and a quick eye to guide those dashing horses through tho immenso throng ot vehicles of every description which filled tho avenue, particularly as the driver, while koeping one eye upon the steods, was obliged with tho other to acknowledge tho salutations which he received on ov ery side, and ho kept up a continual bowing, Tho Kmperor gives as yet uo signs of age—lie will be titty-two on Hie 2<ith of April next—hut looks ns fresh and young, I think, as when I saw him five years ago.” ♦ Selfish Life, How worse than empty is a life of self ish struggle! To be born to an eminent place, with groat work to do-tbat is something which ihoso whoso faculties lit thorn for the place and work may, per haps, thank God for, though It has its groat temptations. To bo carried upward into the high places of tho earth and in vested with its distinctions and honors, without a selfish Booking for them, but j merely In tbe sequel and result of brave nud noble doing of the duty put upon us by God und man—like Washington—is j something to bo accepted with magnanim ity, or enjoyed with modest satisfaction according to oue's temperament and tastes, To seek even a noble and lofty sphere of public action at tho prompting of a great and energetic nature, conscious of abilities to render good service to one’s country or to mankind, and of the im pulse to do so—this is something I shall not disparage or oontemn. But a lire ol mere self-seeking vanity aud pride-en (iendering envy, ill-will, and all evil pas sions-wretched if success crown not it? selfish struggles, and not mado b.essed by any .occess-what a miserable thing It is! What is life worth without inward peaeo? Which no selfish life can giTe. A Juit Verdict. A woman in Urbnnn, Ohio, has re covered $6,000 damages from a retailor who sold liquor to her husband, from which ho became drunk and subsequent ly in his fury, chopped off one of her feet. Header, although the rose may bloom ever so brightly in the glowing cheek, the eye be over so sparkling, the teeth be those of peats, if the head is bereft of its covering, or the hair bo snarled and shriveled, harsh and dry, or worse still, if sprinkled with gray, nature will lose more than half her charms. Professor Wood’s lluir Restorative, if used two or throe times a week, will restore and permanently secure to ail such an ornament. Read the following and judge. The writer of the first is the celebrated I\an ist, TJialberg: New York, April 19,1858. Dr. Wood: —Dear Sir , —Permit n:e to express to you the obligations 1 am under for the entire res toration of my hair to its original color; about tho time of my arrival in tho United States it was rapidly becoming gray, but upon the application of your “Hair Restorative” it soon recovered its original huo. 1 consider your Restorative as a very wonderful invention, quite efficacious as well as agreeable. 1 am, dear sir, yours truly, S. THALBERG. “Dutch a’r Gwylfedtdct,” ) Welsh Newspaper office, 13 Nassau st., April 12. j Prof. O. J. Wood: —Dear Sir , —Some month or six weeks ago I received o bottle of your Hair Restorative and gave it to my wifi*, who concluded to try it on her hair, little thinking at the time that it would restore tho gray hair to its original color, but to her as well ns my surprise, after a few weeks’ trial it has performed that wonderful effect by turning all tho gray hairs to a dark brown, at the same time beautifying and thicken ing the hair. I strongly recommend tho above Restorative lo all persons in want of such a change oftheir hair. CHARLES CARDEW. New York, July 25,1857. Prof. O. J. Wood :—With confidence do I recom mend your Hair Restorative, as being tho most efficacious article I over saw. Since using your Hair Restorative, my hair and whiskers, which were almost white, have gradually grown dark; and I now feel confident that a few more applica tions will restore them to their natural color. It also lias relieved mo of all duudruff and unpleas ant itching, so common among persons who pers pire freely. * J.G.KILBY. Chicago, 111., May 1,1857. Prof. Wood:—About two years ago my hair commenced falling off and turning gray; I was fast becoming bahi, and had tried many Remedies to no effect. I commenced using your hair Resto rative in January last. A few applications fast ened my hair firmly. It began to fill up, grow out, and turned back to its former color, (black.) At this time it is fully restored to its original color, health, and appearance, and I cheerfully recom mend its m.o to all. X D. V \ thin ago of adulterated and deleterious LI- J. quern, it in a source us satisfaction to he üblo to introduce to public notice tho above article —an article of unquestioned purity, and possessing no qualities except such ns have the most favoiable iutlueucu on tlie human constitution. A few rods of Hoil on the banks of the Rhine produces the grape which will tlourish nowhere else, from whose juice proceeds the “Johannis berg,” tiie choicest wine in the world. And a narrow strip of land in the parish of Natcliitochee, in Louisiana, has h ug supplied the world with a super-excellent article of snuff, from such tobacco in cannot be induced to grow else where. Iu like ninnnor it liiih long been known that a limited territory, lying in the valley <-f the Mo nongaliola river, exclusively brings forth a rye of properties so marked uud peculiar that its distilla tion produces n Whisky of such superlative char acter an places it beyond rivalry. By u process recently discovered, and now known only to iny manufacturer, tbe grain from the choicest spot of this favored locality is made to yield tiie Aromatic Valley Whisky, with which no other can stand an Instant's com parison. I have uo apprehension of being accused of pub lishing unwarrantable, or even exaggerated enco miums, to any who will first subject my Whisky to lest. It is now the standard article at all the first class Hotels and Clubs in the city of New York, and wherever it is introduced it at once lissuincs its leading position, is AWARDED THE PALM OF SUPERIORITY, and the demand for it becomes a tb iug established. Its medicinal properties are such, that while its immediate effects are pleasant and grateful, it ex ercise* the happiest permanent influence upou tiie constitution. 1 have analyzed a sample of “Daly’s Aromatic Valley Whisky,” and find it to be a pure article, ot fine llavor, and without any doleteiious admix ture.
