The auction sale of the above ware will be continued to-day at tho Ogle thorpe Corner, by Messrs. Harrison & Pitts, when it will be closed out. The sale will commence at 10 o’clock this morning. Special provision has been made for the comfort of ladies who may attend the saic. Remember, this is the last day; and it may be long ere such another opportunity occurs to purchase such beautiful and useful articles, and at your own price, too. A Dinner at Cook’s Hotel. Ia obedience to a polite invitation yes terday, we partook of a sumptuous repast at Cook’s Hotel, in company with two or three representatives of the press. The table was bountifully supplied with every delicacy which the market and season af forded, all of which was served in a style that would have pleased the most fastid ious taste, or satisfied the cravings of an epicurian palate. ‘ That saddle of Veni son imported from a colder latitude was sufficient to tempt any appetite, and those invited on the occasion especially, will long retain agreeable recollections of it. The presiding genius of the Steward’s Department is a gentleman of elegant manner and thoroughly accomplished in his business, and every thing under bis supervision, was done up in fine style which distinguishes the cuisine of this ex ccllcnt Hotel. Theatre—Thursday Evening. The “Marble Heart,” a drama of un common merit and interest, was present ed to a very fair audience Thursday eve ning. The cast of characters was judi cious, and each was well presented. Miss Maggie Mitchell as “ Madamoi selle Marco,” surpassed herself on this occasion, and her representation of that character conclusively established her versatility of talent as an actress. The whole company appeared and sus tained the principal parts with unusual spirit and accuracy. Misses Emmons, Qermon, Atwood, and Mesdames Scott and Grattan ; Messrs. Wright, Donal son, Mortimer and others merit special mention. “ Stars” perhaps of greater magnitude, have won more reputation on preceding occasions, and particular char acters have passed off with greater eclat ; as a whole, we do not hesitate to say the “ Marble Heart” Thursday evening, was the most successful entertainment of the kind we havo ever attended in Colum bus. We regret that it cannot be repeat ed again to-night; but tho “ French Spy” and “Robert Macaire,” favorite pieces here, will be presented, and we hope there will be a full house, as it will be Miss Maggie’s last appearance. City Cemetery—Proposition of the L, allies* In a recent impression of the Sun ap peared a brief communication signed “Many More Ladies,” in which a propo sition was made to pay half the salary of a competent man, who could be engaged by the City Council to keep the City Cem etery in order for SSOO per uuuum. Wo have since learned from an author itative source, that a number of the City Council is desirous to know the ladies who made the proposition, in order that tho matter might be presented at a future meeting, duly considered and definite action taken. We mention this for the benefit of those who made the proposi tion, that they might pursue what course they may think proper. Whon the communication appeared, we advised the Council to accept the proposi tion ; but subsequent reflection has caused us to change that opinion. It is a very liberal one, but in our opinion it should not be aocepted. The City Cemetery is under the supervision of Council, and we think it devolves on Mem to make all proj vision and uso all proper means under their control and at their command, to keep It in proper order. It should be a matter of sincere regret, if tho City of Columbus is so poor and reduoed in cir cumstances that her City Council have not means sufficient and available for this purpose. Wo do not know that the members of that body design to accept the proposition ; they may coincide with us in opinion, and we hope for the credit of the city that they do. In these remarks wo do not Intend any reflection upon their efficiency j but know them all to be geuilemen of sufficient in telligence and comprehensive enough in vieWs to control and direct our municipal affairs with credit to themselves and use fulness to the city. We hope it can and will be done without the necessity of re sorting to any extraneous aseistance. No SHed for Pasicugeri. There is a good deal of complaint among passengers, who travel on the rail road to and from this city, at the inconvenience to which they are subjected, in not hav ing a shed or depot near the cars, to pro tect them from the wind and weather. There is no dodging the sun, when it is warm, and no shelter from the rain when it pours down. A passenger must have his baggage checked aud get his baggage when checked at all hazards. Surely the rail road company expect to erect a depot worthy the city at the juncture of the two roads. Tho present arrangement looks very much like tho back woods.— Times, ( City.) Commercial Paper. The following act in relation to com mercial paper has passed ihe New York Legislature, and is now become a law: Sec. 1. This is the result of perse vering energy in ita introduction, sustained by a determination adopted at the outset, and never for an instant departed from, that its original purity and excellence should continue to the ond. The common fate, attendant upon all auch suc cessful efforts, has overtaken the manufacturer. It is imitated by unscrupulous imposters, and an inferior and spurious article is palmed ofl upon the community, to the great detriment of the pub lic as well as injury to the manufacturer, both in emolument and well-earned repute. Kvery effort has been made to guard against this piracy by a Copyright of the Label, and by peculiar shape of the bottle. I caution the public against tbisimposition upon them and upon my rights, and I earnestly desire such information from those who may possess it, by having been victimised or otherwise, as will enable me to protect the public and myself by prosecution to the utmost extent of the law. The genuine “Daly’s Aromatic Valley Whisky * is put up iu cases of 12 bottles each, with light yel low Label, and sealed with yellow wax, with tbs proprietor’s stamp on the wax, and sac simile sig nature of the proprietor on the label. All other articles are imitations. Consumers can depend upon getting a pure arti cle when they buy the Valley Whisky, as it is sold by the bottle end case only. WM. 11. It Is the richest preparation 1 have yet seen for the Soluble Phosphate, and in this respect cannot well be improved upon. For Statesmen, Judges, Clergymen, IADIES AND OENTLKMKN, in all parts of the J world, testify to the efficacy of Prof. 0. J. Wood’s Hair Restorative, and gentlemen of the Press Are unanimous In its praise. A few testimo nials ouly cun be here given; see circular for more, and it will be iuiponsiblu for you to doubt. 47 Wall Strum, New York,) Dec 20th, 1868. / Gentlemen: Your note of the 16th inst. has been received, paying that you had heard that I had been benefitted by the use of Wood’s Hair Restora tive, and requesting my certificate of the fact if I had no objection to give it. I award it to you cheerfully, because I think it due. My age is about 60 years; the color of my hair auburn, aud inclined to curl, gome five or six years since it began to turn gray and the scalp on the crown of my head to lose its sensibility and dandruff to form upon it. Each of these disagreea bilities increased with tune, and about four months since a fourth was added to them, by hair falling off tho top of niy head and threatening to make me bald. In this unpleasant predicament, I was inducsd to try Wood’s Hair Restorative, mainly to arrest the tailing off of my hair, for i had really no ex pectation that gray hair could ever be restored to its original color, except from dyes. 1 was, how ever, greatly surprised to find, after the use of two bottles ouly, that not only was the falling off arrested, but the color was restored to the gray hairs and sensibility to the scalp, aud dandruff ceased to form on my head, very much to the gratification of my wife,at whose solicitation I was induced to try it For this, among the many obligations I owe to her sex, I strongly recommend all husbands who value the admiration of their wives, to profit by my example, and use it if growing gray or gettiug bald. Very respectfully, BENJ. A. LAVENDER. To O. J. Wood A Cos., 444 Broadway, N. Y. My family are absent from the city, and lam no longer at No. 11 Carroll Place. Siamkton, Ala., July 20th, 1869. To l'rof. 0. J. Wood —Dear Sir: Your “Hair Re storative” has doue my hair so much good since I commenced the use of it, that I wish to make known to the PUBLIC of its effects on tha hair, which are great. A man or woman may be nearly deprived of hair, and by a resort to your “Hair Restorative,” the hair will return more beautiful than uvor;.at least this is my experience. Believe it all! Yours truly, WM. H. KENEDY. P. B.,—You can publish the above if you like. By publishing in our Southern papers you will get mere patronage South. I see several of your cer tificates in the Mobile Mercury, a strong Southern paper. W. U. Kenedy. WOOD’S HAIR RESTORATIVE. /Vo/. O. J. Worn!—Dear Sir: Having had the misfortune to loso the best portion of my hair, from tho effects of tho yellow fever in New Orleans in 1851, I was induced to make a trial of your preparation, and found it to answer as the very thing needed. My hair is new thick and, glossy, and uo words can express my obligations to you iu giving to the afflicted sudli a treasure. FINLEY JOHNSON. The Restorative is put up In bottles of 3 sizes, vis: large, medium and small; the small holds % a pint and retails for one dollar per bottle; the medium bolds at least twenty per cent, more in proportion than the small, retails for two dollars per bottle; the large holds a quart, 40 per cent, more in proportion, and retails for $3 a bottle. 0.
