Sir—ln conformity with the act of the Le
gislature, 1 have he- honor to transmit you mrt -
with, an exhibit of the condition of tins Bank,
OD the first Monday in pril, embracing the
condition of the branch at Macon, made up on
the first day of April, together with the affirma
tion required by law.
The item in the exnibit “ Notes of Bank of
Macon, find cost of suit” ($170) one hundred
and seventy < ollars, is bad. Un the bills and
notes in suit and judgment, and bills receivable,
amounting in the aggregate to sixteen thousand
eight hundred and sixteen dollars and forty-nine
cents, ($16,816 49-100) it is probable the
> Bank will lose between live and six thous nd
I dollars. These items embrace all the outstand-
ing business of the bank contained in this exhi
bit, all oth'-r assets of the bank are of the best
character.
Th< specie in the vaulls of the Bank and the
balance due from the oiher Banks in this city,
are equal to tour-fifths of the circulation.
| In reviewing the business of the bank from
the first of October last, it appears the amount
of specie returned to that day. was the smallest
amount the bank has had in its vaults at any
period since that return was nride.

The Girard Bank—Public Deposites.
V e learn that the President of the Girard
Bank*has just rt turned from his mission to
Washington, and, according to the wishes of
the Stockholders, has made an arrangement
with t e Secretary of the Treasury, whereby
this fnstitution terminates its connection with
the Treasury, after the Ist July next.
The determination of the government in rela
tion to the n turned deposites is not known. It
is belit vec that they will not be received by
any bank in the city.
Saturday Evening Post.
The Washington correspondent of the Jour

Mr. P< ind xter’s remarks on the President’s
1 protest, be alluded to a fact not well known to
public, viz. that this was not the first message
s< nt this session to the Senate, the reception of
which was refused. The President had once
sent tht m d message which his own friends
were a.-hamed to defend, and it was returned to
him, and not received until the offensive passa
ges contained in it were expunged. This, the
writer presumes refers to the Executive mes
sage, renominating the rejected Bank Direc*

A Letter oublished in the National Intelligen
