Certificates and Statements of its Fffects. Georgia , Muscogee County Dr. Woodruff—Dear 8ir —1 nave haa a negro child that has been sick for some time. Not knowing what was the matter with it, we had pietty much given up doing anything for it; however, as a Inst r-sort, we concluded to try some of your Worm Specific, thinking it probably might be Worms that hid reduced it so much ; accordingly, vvt commenced giving your Specific, (which, by the bye, you have rightly named,) when, astonishing to teh, it commenced passing Worms, and continued doing s* for several days, until it had passed more than too hundred , some of them a foot or more in length, others twisted and knotted together in hard balls, so that they could not be separated without cutting them apart. Knowing that a worm mu dicine so valu able as yours has proved to he, would be used by hundreds, i* they only knew of its virtues, I have concluded to give you thL certificate, so that all may know where to find a medicine that can be relied on. JOSEPH SHIPPEYU Columbus, July 29, fc lS4s. Remarkable Cure of 'Benia, or Tape Worm. — This is to certify, that I have made use ot Dr, Woodruff ’s Worm Specific in myfam.ly in sev eral cas s, with the happiest effect. In one case it brought away immediately some fifty w rms, of the kind called As:arid s; but its most rc ! markable effect was exhibited in another case, a | girl of rather delicate health, who complained pretty constantly ot her abdomen. Being satis fied that she had been troubled with worms of I some kind, we administer, d the Specific, and to I our astonishment it br ,light from her a number I of pieces of Tape Worm, fr on two to six or eight ! inches in length! Since that, time, her health has considerably improved ; and I have no doubt j but that the Medicine has relieved her of that : much to be dreaded W-irm. The Specific | is in high r-pute in this place, and is without . donhta valuable remedy for Worms. Whitesville Ga.,Jan., 1845. JOHN J. LITTLE. From Dr. J. K. Turner.—Pine Valley, August 16, 1845.—Dear Sir: I have tested your Worm I Specific until I am fully satisfied ot its virtues. But a lew days since. 1 prescribed it in a case of Irritative Fever from Worms. The child had i been very sick for two or three days, high fever j all the time, for which I gave vour Specific; less 1 than a bottle cured the child perfectly. The pa -1 rents now set a high estimate upon ii—it is an excellent Remedy for Worms. Respectfully, &c. From Dr. W. McClendon. —Roano e, | Ala .J July 21. 1845 —I have sold some of your Worm Specific, and as far as it has been tried in my knowledge, it is excellent and well deserves its name Specific. Augusta j - AN Interesting’ Letter from Mrs. Sisorne : Bristol, Pa., Jan. 16, 1646. Messrs Editors: —l write to inform you and the public that my son was under t e treatment of rny family Doctor Lr more than a year, fora very troubh some DISEASE OF THE SKIN without obtaining any 1 eiief. I then applied to several other Physicians, who gave him so much medicine and diet ;d him so low that I thought he would die from its effect One physician tld me that it was a disease to which some families were subject, and cendd not he cured. Some' call ed it Scrofula, and others Tetter, Salt Rheum, Eczema, Leprosy,&c. After trvingevery means for nearly five years, without effect, I was advised to give him Dr. Jayne's Alterative. At this time he was literally sore from his m-ad to his feet Sometimes it would dry up and scurf off and then break out again as bad as ever, and itch and burn so intolerably as to drive him almost to dis traction. He had not taken the Alterative, how ever, two weeks before theie was a great change for the better. He went to school all the time while taking the medicine, and partook of the same kind of food as the rest of the family, and ran through thick and thin the same .as the other boys of the school, until he was perfectly cured, and became fat and hearty, and though now over five years ago, yet not a symptom es the disease has ever yet made its appearance.— Yours, respectfully, MARY ANN SISOME. Davis and . a intel ligent Mexican last evening, m which the latter gave a most thrilling description ol the condition ot his country. 'We have,’ said he, ‘the finest soil and healthiest climate in the world, a sober, industrious people, and yet the land is a desert. You think that this is caused by our indolence. Not so. It has been brought about entirely by bad government. There is no protection lor property. To be reputed rich is but to be marked as the prey ot some grasping official. We do not accumulate, because we cannot en joy the fruits ol our labor. And every revolu tion, by giving us swarms ot new officers, but increases our distress. Every department of power is grossly corrupt. And ail we want to be a great nation is a just and stable govern ment.’ Headdcdmuch more to the same effect, and these sentiments accord so perfectly with those which I have frequently heard expressed by others, ihat I have no doubt that the continu ance of the present humane policy ol our Go vernment of respeciing-and protecting private property, will result in the establishment ol a Northern Republic under the protection of the United Slates. r l he project is ably advocated in both Eviglish and Spanish, in a newspaper published in Matamoros, called the Republic of the Rw Grande, and it is strongly suspected that it is highly favored by Arista." Paixhan Guns.— lt is not perhaps generally known that this description of artillery, which hears the name of a French General, is in fact the invention ot an American officer, Col. Bora ford. In a note to Lieutenant Halleck’s work on Military Art and Science, just published by Appleton & Co., [page 5280] the case is thus stated: “These pieces (Paixhan gunsorColumbiads) were first invented by Colonel Bomford, ol the U. S. army, and used in the war of 1812. The dimensions of these guns were first taken to Europe by a young French officer, and thus tell imo the hands of General Paixhan, who imme diately introduced them into the French service. They were by this means first made known to the rest of Europe, and received the name of the person who introduced them into the European service rather than the name of the original in ventor. Al! these (acts are so fully susceptible ol proof that the Europeans now acknowledge themselves indebted to us for the invention; even Genera! Paixhan gives up all claim te originality in his gun, and limits himself to cer tain improvements which he introduced. The original which was invented by Colonel Bom tnrd, and whose dimensions were carried I© General Paixhan in France, is now lying at the ordnance depot in New York harbor." Hurra for the Printers. —The are fifteen printers in one company ol the Tennessee V oiunteers, and eight in another. It lakes the printers, after all, to do the right thing far the country. • DR. DENT’S PILLS.—The Pro prietors have been induced to offer these PILL& to the public from the consciousness that they are better adapted for the biliary affections of our climate than any other cathartic medicine in common use for such purposes. The opinion which the distinguished physician, from whose recipe they are prepared, entertained of their usefulness, can best be told in his own words: “Alter several alterations and trials the formu la, by which these pi'!-«are made, was adopted as combining most ot the qualities desired in a bil ious purge, viz: action on he liver, in the stom ach, and bowels, in such away as to leaves tonic or strengthening effect ; and with an,. addition tending to keep them, so as to dissolve readily on the stomach, even for years; seven or eight vt-ars use has only tended to confirm my good opinion of these Pills, as one «>f the best bilious cathartics in our climate. “JOHN DENT, M.D.” If further evidence was wanted of the superior excellence oi these Piils, the testimony of the fol lowing gentlemen is conclusive. CERTIFICATES. It is with pleasuie I give my opinion of Dent's Anti-Bilious Pills, [ commenced the use of them about six years ago, since which time, I have ad ministered them to almost the entire exclusion of all other med cine. 1 unhesitatingly pronounce them the finest family Medicine I have ever seen. Samuel Blackwell. 12th December, 1828. I have found tor seven or eight years, the pills prepared according to Dr. Dent’s directions an excellent cathartic, very successful in removing bilious symptoms and diseases, and for the most part to supercede the use of all other medicine in bilious fever, in my family, say more than forty persons. John Nntsow. Sand Hills, June 16, 1828. I have for several years been in the frequent habit of giving Dent’s Pills, and with pleasure recommend them as a most valuable Family Medicine. W.
