DENT'S PILLS.—The Pro prietors have been induced to offer these PILLS to the public from the consciousness that they are better adapted for the biliary affections of our climate than any other cathartic medicine in common use for such purposes. The opinion which ihc distinguished physician, from whose recipe they are prepared, entertained of their usefulness, can best be told in his own words ; “After several alterations and trials the formu la, by which These piUs are made, was adopted as combining most ol the qualities desired in a bii ious purge, viz: action on (he liver, in the stom ach, and bowels, in such away as to leave a tonic or strengthening effect; and with an addition tendingto keep them, so as to dissolve readily on the stomach, even for years ; seven or eight years use has only tended to confirm my good i opinion of these Pills, as one of the best bilious i cathartics in our climate. “JOHN DENT, M.D.” } If further evidence w r as tv an ted of the superior ! excellence ot these Pills, the testimony of the fol- I lowing gentlemen is conclusive. CERTIFICATES. j It is with pleasure I give my opinion of Dent's Anti-Biiious Pills, t commenced the use of them ; about six years ago, since which time, 1 have ad- t ministered them to almost the entire exclusion of j all other medicine. 1 unhesitatingly pronounce them the finest family Medicine I have ever seen, i Samuel Blackwell. 1 12th December, 1828. I nave found for seven or eight, years, the pills ; prepared according to Dr. Dent’s directions an excellent cathartic, very successful in removing bilious symptoms and diseases, and for the most part to supercede the use of ail other medicine in bilious fever, in my family, say more than forty persons. John Nelson. \ Sand Hills. June 16, 1828. I 1 have lor several years been in the frequent! habit of giving Dent’s Pills, and with pleasure recommend them as a most valuable Family Yledirine. W P. Deahsiosd, Augusta, July L, 1828. JAYNES’ ALTERA 'IT Y E-- We have been informed by Mrs. Rose, o! a cure performed on her by Dr. J ayne’s Altera tive, which provesits superiority over every other •emedy of the kind. She has been afflicted lor rite last sixteen years with ulcerations and ex foliation of various bones, during which time many pieces of bones have been discharged from the frontal bone of thecranium —both her arms, wrists and hands, from her iego«nd from the lei> femoral hone, and from the right knee, besides painfululcers on other parts of her person, which has baffled the skill of a number of the mo?t emi nent physicians of our city —during most of the time her sufferings have been most excruciating and deplorable. About tbree months since she was induced to try Dr. Jaynes ’ Alterative, which has had an astonishingly happy effect upon her by removing all pain, and causing the ulcers to heal, while at the same time her general health has become completely restored, and she now weighs 25 lb 2. more than she did before she com menced the use of this truly valuable p repara tiOG'uoforsaleby WM. Sands —Dear Sirs.*— Al though a stranger, permit me to relate to you the j story of my sufferings and the relief I have ob§ I tainedtrom the use of your Sarsaparilla. About the middle of January IS3 2,1 was attacked with ■ a disease which ray Physician called Rheuma tism, and I used such remedies a.-, were prescri bed, and in about three weeks it left, but nearly the same time the next year it appeared ag°in in the same place, the right hip joint. Torn which!: increased, moving on from limb to limb and joint to joint until it h id emphatically t alien posses sion of my whole system, I tried every remedy 7 prescribed by the various Physicians, but was doomed j/ear afttw year to see my disease com pletely baffle all the combined skill of the Medi cal Profession, i became discouraged, all hope of relief fled, prosperity was turned to adversity, and I could say with the woman in the Scrip ture, that I had spent all my living and received no benefit. 1 continued this until September j 1838, when 1 took a sudden and severe cold, and | immediately my disease raged with increased I | fury throughout ray whole system. My body i was racked with convulsions and twisted with | cramp until every join* was dislocated, and ev ery limb painfully disto. red. My limbs and body ■ were drawn together, nearly into a sitting pos [ ture, in which every joint become so perfectly set that it was impossible to move, hand or foot or ! any of my limbs. 1 was confined in this condition aboutone year i : iront the above date to a common bed, next to a ; hydrostatic bed for one vear; from which I was taken in February 1841, and placed in a large easy chair, made so as to conform to the angle of my stiffbody and limbs. I had not been long in this chair before my feet began to swell and continued to increase until the skin literally burst at every pot e, discharging such a quantity of fluid that large folds of cloths placed under and a rouud them would be completely drenched in a few hours. Besides this, they discharged a gluey substance that accumulated in thick \ crust upon the surface until matter was form-1 ed underneath when it peeled off, forming! | ulcers, which continued to increase until my feet j were one complete sore, so nauseous that 1 be- j ! came loathsome even to my nearest and best friends. Although ray feet were so exceedingly tender that I could scarcely endure tlie weight of a cloth upon them, yet at. times they would burn and itch so intolerably that my nurse would j 1 be obliged to take a rough cloth and rub them j until it was sometimes saturated with blood, be- ! fore I could get relief, while at the same time j there was a raging inflammation throughout my I w r hole system, and a darting, throbbing pain in ; ! every joint. All the nails on ray fingers and toes j j died and came off. I had a distressing pain in j my left side, a distracting headache almost con j tinually, and besides my bowels were so torpid j that they did not move unless by the aid of pihs I oftener than once in several days. This, sirs, is I but a faint description of rny actual state when S your Sarsaparilla, like an Angel of Mercy, found | me and administered to my relief. While rcraov * ing the wrapper from the first bottle, my wife I said, My dear husband, you must notallow your- i 1 j self even to hope for relief, for if you do it will } only add anotherlo your already many grievous , disappointments. I very sensibly fell the effects I of the first dose, and when I had taken one hal I of the first bottle the discharge trom my feet en | tireiy stopped, and the swelling began to abate and before 1 had finished taking the second, the I burning and itching was gone, the loathsome | stench disappeared, the pain in my head, side; and back ceased, w title ray bowels lor the first; time in four years moved naturally and have i continued to do so since, and my health is rapid ly improving. By this you will see what an un expected yet unspeakable blessing your Sarsapa pariila has been to me, and I earnestly desire that every one afflicted with such diseases as come within its healing powers may obtain and try it without delay. He had not taken the Alterative, how ever, two weeks before thete was a great change for the better. He went to school all the time j' w hiie taking the medicine, and partook of the same kind of food as the rest of the family, and ran about through thick and thin the same as the othmr boys of the school, until he was perfectly \, eured, and became fat and hearty, and though j now over five years ago, yet not a symptom es i" the disease has ever yet made its appearance.— fours, respectfully, MARY ANN SISOME. r This valuable Alterative is for sate by i WM. Dying from Home.—The following is an extract from the Memoirs of the Rev*. Mr. Thatcher, a distinguished clergyman oi Boston, who died some years since on the continent ot Europe, whither he had repaired lor the benefit ot his health: “ It is a s«d thing to think that we must die away from our home. Tell not the invalid who is yearning alter a distant country, that the at mosphere around him is solt, and the gales are filled with balm, and the liowers are springing irom the green earth: he knows that the soltesr air to his heart, would be the air which hangs over his native land; that more gratelully than ailthegalen of the South, would breathe the low whispers ot anxiout affections: that the very icicles clinging to his own eaves, ana the snow beating against his own windows, would be far more pleasing to his eyes, than the bloom and verdure which only more forcibly remind him how lar he is from that spot which is dearer to him than all the world beside. He may in deed find estimable Iriends who will do all in their power to promote his comfort and assuage his pains; but they cannot supply the place ot the lung known and mute languageol his face; they have not learned to communicate without hesitation, his wishes, impressions and thoughts to iht-m He led* that he is a stranger, and a more desolate feeling than that could not visit his soul. How muchis expressed by that form ol oriental benediction —mav you die among your kindred. 7 ' Family Meeting.—The descendants of the late Isaac Jennings, deceased, had a family meeting in this town during the last week, which is the first, we understand, enjoyed by them in thirty years. The whole number pre sent was 55 souls, as follows: Children and children-in-law 19; grandchildren 36. Ol the children there are 11, (no deaths having occur red among them.) ranging from 31 to 51; ot the grandchildren 11 are dead, the whole num ber having been 69; and ot the great grand children theic are 7. A supper and religious services were had on the occasion, and the scene was one of deep and affecting interest. — Norwalk Gazette. The Albatross. —A correspondent ot the New York Journal of Commerces writing from on board the U. S. Frigate Congress, off Cape Horn, says; “ Hut of all the objects of nature here, the most interesting is the albatross. This noble bird re semble? in size and shape, the swan. The body is while as the driven bdow ; the wings black as the raven’s. The bead has the boldness of the eagle’s, the eye, the name flashing defiance. Their wings are long, large and arching; upon these they balance themselves like the hawk, and without once stri king the air, sweep through their vast circuits. They voyage hundreds of miles at sea; and out ! of that great element obtain their food. We cap tured on# by means of a hook, which was baited, at tached to a long line, and buoyed by a cork. As I we drew him toward vhc ship, his female com panion followed close at his side; and when we lifted him in, she still hung around the ship. Hav ing gratified our curiosity, we let him go .when she flew to him with the liveliest expression of joy. What a lesson to those who forsake a frend in ad veasity.” William the Conqueror was born at Faiaisp , in the year 1027, That city is about to erect a statue to his memory. Queen Victoria is exhibited as a legitimate descendant, in the 27th degree ; the Archduke Charles of Austria, as the nearest — \ the 22d degree. Nearly all the sovereign houses of Europe belong to the connexion. They are traced to the Emperor Charlemagne, by Matilda of Flanders, the wife of William Duke of Norman - dy. t JOB PRINTING.
