DENT'S PILLSI—The Pro prietors have been induced to offer these PILLS to the public from the consciousness that they are better adapted for the biliary affections of our climate than any other cathartic medicine in common use for such purposes. The opinion which the distinguished physician, from whose recipe they are prepared, entertained of their usefulness, can best be told in his own words : “After several alterations and trials the formu la, by which th se phis are made, was adapted as combining most ol the qualities desired in a bil ious purge, viz; action on the liver, in the stom ach, and bowels, in such away us to leave a tonic or strengthening effect; and with an addition tending to keep them, so as to dissolve readily on the stomach, even for years ; seven or eight years use has only tended to confirm my good opinion of these Pills, as one of the best bifious cathartics in our climate. “JOHN DENT, M.D.” If farther evidence was wanted of the superior excellence ot these Pills, the testimony of the fol lowing gentlemen is conclusive. CERTIFICATES. It is with pleasure I give my opinion of Dent’s Anti-Biiious Pills. I commenced the use of them about six years ago, since which time, I have ad ministered them to almost the entire exclusion of all other medicine. 1 unhesitatingly pronounce them the finest family Medicine I have ever seen. Samuel Blackwell. 12th December, 1823. 1 have found for seven or eight years, the pills prepared according to Dr. Deni’s directions an excellent cathartic, very successful in removing bilious symptoms and diseases, and for the most part to supercede the use of all other medicine in bilious fever, in my family, say more than forty persons. Johx Nelson. Sand Hills, June 16, 1828. I have lor several years been in the frequent habit of giving Dent’s Pills, and with pleasure recommend them as a most valuable Family Medicine. W. P. Deabmond. Augusta, July 1, 1828. The Dent’s Pills I procured of you, having proved so efficacious, that I view th; m as an ex traordinary medicine, and have on every occa sion spoken of them as such, and now willingly recommend them to the public Augusta, July 7, 1826. DR" JAVINES’ ALTERATIVE.— We have been informed by Mrs. Rose, ol a cure performed on her by Dr. Jayne’s Altera tive, which provesits superiority over every other .emody of the kind. She has been afflicted for the last sixteen years with ulcerations and ex foliation of various bones, during which time many pieces of bones have been discharged from the frontal bone of thecranium —both her arms, wrists and bands, from her legs aad from the left femoral bone, and from the right knee, besides painful ulcers on other parts of her person, which has baffled the skill of a number of the most emi nent physicians of our city—during most ol the time her sufferings have been most excruciating and deplorable. About three months since she was induced to try Ur. Jaynes' Alterative, which has had an astonishingly happy effect upon her by removing all pain, and causing the ulcers to heal, while at the same time her general health has become completely restored, and she now weighs 25 lbs. more than she did before she com menced the use of this truly valuable prepara tion. SANDS’S SARSAPARILLA For the removal and permanent cure of all Diseases arising from an impure state of the Blood, or habit ot ihe system. r searching influence of this pre- A paration reaches the blood, and its antisep tic properties either discharge or render harmless the virus of disease in that fluid, w hile its tonic qualities strengthen the stomach, and the slight laxative power with which (however strange the combination may seemjit is imbued, acts gently upon the excretory organs. To those afflict ed with pustulous or other eruptions, scrofulous ulcers, superficial or deep-seated sores, inflarna tory or chronic rheumatism, general prostration, hepatie diseases, &c.,&c., it will befound to produce a most beneficial, and so to speak, re vitalizing effect. Still lurther proof of the value and efficacy of this- medicine. Another link added to the chain of testimony: West Poultney, Vt., Dec. 4th, 1845. Messrs. A. B. D. Sands —Dear Sirs:—Al though a stranger, permit me to relate to you the story of my sufferings and the relief I have obg tainedtrom the use of rour Sarsaparilla. About the middle of January. 1632, 1 was attacked with a disease which my Physician called Rheuma- and I used such remedies as were prescri bed, and in about three weeks it left, but nearly the same time the next year it appeared ag»in in the same place, the right hip joint, fiom which it increased, moving on from limb to limb and joint to joint until it had emphatically taken posses sion of my whole system. T tried every remedy orescribed by the various Physicians, but was doomed year after year to see my disease com pletely baffle all the combined skill of the Medi cal Profession. 1 became discouraged, all hope of relief fled, prosperity was turned to adversity, and I could say with the woman in the Scrip ture, that I had spent ail my living and received no benefit. 1 continued this until September 1838, when I took a sudden and severe cold, and immediately my disease raged with increased fury throughout my whole system. My body was racked with convulsions and twisted with cramp until every join' was dislocated, and ev ery limb painfully disto./ed. My limbs and body were draw n together, nearly into a sitting pos ture, in which every joint become so perfectly set that it was impossible to move, hand or foot or any of my limbs. I was confined in this condition aboutone year from the above date to a common bed, next to a hydrostatic bed for one year; from which I was taken in February 1841, and placed in a large easy chair, made so as to conform to the angle of my stiffbody and limbs. 1 had not been long in this chair before my feet began to swell and continued to increase until the skin literally burst at every poie, discharging such a quantity offluid that large folds of cloths placed under and a round them would be completely drenched in a few hours. Besides this, they discharged a gluey substance that accumulated in thick crust upon the surface until matter was form ed underneath when it peeled off, forming ulcers, which continued to increase until my feet were one complete sore, so nauseous that I be - came loathsome even to my nearest and best friends. Although my feet were so exceeding!v tender that I could scarcely endure the wotHbt of a cloth up» n ♦> —•' “ ,,,es rfiey would hnr« ...a itch so intolerably that my nurse would be obliged to take a rough cloth and rub them until it was sometimes saturated with blood, be fore I could get relief, while at the same time there was a raging inflammation throughout my whole system, and a darting, throbbing pain in every joint. All the nails on my fingers and toes died and came off. 1 had a distressing pain in my left side, a distracting headache almost con tinually, and besides my bowels were so torpid that they did not move unless by the aid of pills oftener than once in several days. This, sirs, is but a faint description of my actual state when your Sarsaparilla, like an Angel of Mercy, found me and administered to my relief. While remov ing the wrapper from the first bottle, my wife said, My dear husband, you must notallow your self even to hope for relief, for if you do it will only add another to your already many grievous disappointments. I very sensibly felt’the effects of the first dose, and when I had taken one hal ol the first bottle the discharge trom my feet en tirely stopped, and the swelling began to abate and before I had finished taking the second, the burning and itching was gone, the loathsome stench disappeared, the pain in my head, side and back ceased, while my bowels lor the first time in four years moved naturally and have continued to do so since, and my health is rapid ly improving. By this you will see what an un expected yet unspeakable blessing your Sarsapa parilla has been to me, and I earnestly desire that every one afflicted with such diseases as come within its healing powers may obtain and try it without delay. Your afflicted friend, Wm Ryder. This may certify that we have been personal ly acquainted with the Rev. William Ryder for manv years past and believe the above statement to be correct. Messrs. Editors: — l write to inform you and the public that my son was under the treatment of mv family Doctor for more than a year, for a very troublesome DISEASE OF THE SKIN without obtaining any relief. I then applied to several other Physicians, who gave him so much medicine and dietsd him so low that I thought he would die from its effect. One physician told me that it was a disease to which some families were subject, and could not be cured. Some call ed it Scrofula, and others Tetter, Salt Rheum, Eczema, Leprosy,&c. After tryingevery means for nearly five years, without effect, I was advised to give him Dr. Jayne's Alterative. At this time he was literally sore from his head to his feet. Sometimes it would dry up and scurf off, and then break out again as bad as ever, and itch and burn so intolerably as to drive him almost to dis traction. He had not taken the Alterative, how ever, two weeks before theie was a great change for the better. He went to school all the time while taking the medicine, and partook of the same kind of food as the rest of the family, and ran about through thick and thin the same as the other boys of the school, until he was perfectly cured, and became fat and hearty, and though now over five years ago, yet not a symptom es the disease has ever yet made its^appearance. — Yours, respectfully, MARY ANN SISOME. A GENTLEMAN of a scrofulous habit, became afflicted with Ulcerations of the Throat and Nose, and a disagreeable and troublesome disease of the skin. Indeed his whole system bore the marks of being saturated with disease. One hand and wrist were so much affected that he had lost the use of the hand, every part being covered with deep, painful and offensive Ulcers, and his hand and wrist were as hollow and porous as a honeycomb. It was at this stage of his complaint, when death appear ed inevitable from a loathsome disease, that he commenced the use of Jayne’s Alterative, and having taken sixteen bottles, is now perfectly cured. — Phila. Ledger. This Alterative operates through the circula tion and purifies ’he olood and eradicates dis eases from the system, wherever located; and the numerous cures it has performed in diseases of the Skin, Cancer, Scrofula, Goitre, Liver Com plaint, Dyspepsia, and other Chronic diseases is truly astonishing. A Remabkable Discovebt.—Prof. Auckland, at a meeting ot tbe Royal society in London (tne Duke of Cambridge in the chair) read a paper upon the discovery he has recently made, which promise* not to be of any great utility, but at the same time will be very ornamental, and a source of great pleasure to many persons. His experiments weie made upon what Linunaeus terms the Oiseau Noir, or common back-bird. He took several of these birds (which were hatched early in the spring) immediately from the shell—kept them in a well wanned apartment, and fed them three times a day, upon different kinds of flower seeds, from which the busks had been carefully picked. The result was each bird bad the plumage of the flower that would have grown from the seed if planted in the ground. This is a beautiful research, and richly has the learned professor been paid. He exhibited to the Royal Society several specimens. His Highness, the Duke of Cambridge, immediately gave orders to the keeper of his aviary, to make experiments ou an extensive scale. Professor Auckland’s birds were sent by special express to the Queen. Pcbfctual Morrow.—The Feliciana Whig has a communication from a mechanic, named James Asgood Dalton, declaring solemnly, with an affi davit affixed, that he has perfected perpetual mo tion. He has been at work on his projects for many years, and as he declares, has at last perfected a machine which demonstrates bis complete suc cess. He is now anxious to raise one thousand dollars to build a model engine that will ensure him the benefits of bis discovery, and place the world in possession of the incalculable benefits to flow fiom it. He refuses to receive a cent from any one whom he cannot convince at once of the truth of his discoveries. The principle be has applied is the attraction of gravitation, and bis motion is produced, says the Vicksburg Sentinel , as near as we can conjecture, by an artificial and continual change in the position of various parts of a heavy body. The Whig states that be is a poor man, and an industrious, sincere and honest mechanic; and ior this reason hopes that his efforts may be noticed by the picas. We read in a Swiss paper; “ Prolessor Sc hon bein recently presented to the Society of Natu ral History ol Basle a specimen ot cotton pre pared by him more inflammable than gunpow der, and exploding with a capsule. Several trials were made with it. A small quantity, equal to the sixteenth part of an ounce, placed in a gun, carried the ball with such force that it perlorated two planks at a distance ol 58 paces; and at another lime, with the same charge, and at the same distance, drove a ball into a wall to the depth ot 3f inches. In some other experi ments a drachm of cotton sent a ball of three quarters of an ounce in weight to a distance of 200 paces, where it penetrated a deal plank to the depth of two inches, A portion of this cot ton, when placed on an anvil and struck with a hammer, caused a loud detonation, without, however, the cotton taking fire. The cotton is of a verx.gp nf l y9fl l f < ttpfojjt ) j e property is not de stroyed by its being thrown into water ar.d after wards dried.” Swake nr the Stomach. —A correspondent of the Aurora states that James Oliver, of South Reading, lately ejected from his stomach a live snake one foot and four inches in length, which was probably swallowed many years ago.
