CHRISTIE’S GALVANIC RINGS AND MAGNETIC FLUID. • REMARKABLE INVENTION, 5 A which has received the almost universal appro bation of the medical profession of Great Britain, com | prises an entirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of which the ordinary Gal -1 vanic Batteries, Electric and Magnetic machines, &c., i are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious power ■ of Galvanism applied without any of the objections which are inseparable from the general mode now in * US G The strong doses, and at regular intervals in ■ which Galvanism is applied by the machines, has been pronounced, after a fair and impartial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy this radi- cal defect, that this new application was projected, which, after unceasing toil and perseverance, has been brought to its present state of perfection. The Gal vanic Rings answer all the purposes of the most ex pensive machines, and in many other respects are more safe and certain in accomplishing the desired effects. The Galvanic Rings used in connection with the Magnetic Fluid, are confidently recommended in all disorders which arise from an enfeebled or un healthy state of the neiwousor vital system , and these, complaints are among the most painful and universal to which we are subject. They arise, without ex ception, from one simple cause—a derangement of the nervous system- —and it was in these cases that other “remedies” haring so often failed, anew agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently belieVed, has been found in the proper and judicious application of Galvanism. The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire success in all cases of rheumatism, acute or chronic applying to the head, face or limbs ; Gout, Tic-Dolo reux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous orSick Headt-che, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy, Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Apoplexy, Stiff ness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lumbago, Neu ralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the ’Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debility, De ficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and all Ner vous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dyspepsia, which is simply a Nervous Derangement of the diges tive organs, they have been found equally successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a certain preservative for the preceding complaints they are equally recom mended. The Rings are of different prices, being made of all sizes, and of various ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the most delicate female without the slightest inconvenience. In fact, the sensation is rather agreeable than otherwise. Clirisitie’s Magnetic Fluid. Is used in connection with the Galvanic Rings, and all their modifications. This composition has been pro nounced by French chemists to be one of the most ex traordinary discoveries of modern science. It is bej heved to possess a remarkable power of rendering the nerves sensitive to galvanic action, by these means causing a circulation of the influence at the seat of dis ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No other composition in chemistry is known to produce the same effect, or to impart a similar property to the nervous system by means of an outward local appli cation. The Magnetic Fiuid contains nothing capable of the slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and It is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its result. Full explanations and directions accompany it. The combined inventions are in every way per fectly harmless; they are at prices within the reach of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial, as a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent benefit. The Galvanic Belts. Bracelets, Bauds, Garters, Necklaces &c. In some cases of a very severe character and of long standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic Rings is not sufficient to arrest the progress of disease and ultimately to restore health. The improved modifica tion in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, &c., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree of power that is required can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can affect, will fail to be permanently relieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body, with perfect convenience. The Galvanic necklaces are used with great benefit in cases of Bronchitis or Affections of the Throat gene erally ; also in cases of Nervous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a preventive for Ajioplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar complaints. Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Plas ters. These articles form another valuable application of the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are an important adjunct to the genuine Galvanic Rings, and their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but having the advantage of more local application. They are confidently recommended as a valuable addition in the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic; in all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy in case of Pain and Weakness in the Chest or Back, Pain in the Side, in Asthmatic Affections, and in Weakness or Oppressions of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Complaints their effects are of me most decided cha racicr, and they have often been used with complete success. They are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast, and are highly re commended for many of those complaints to which fe males are especially liable. As au effectual means for strengthening the system when debilitated with dis ease or other causes; as a certain aid in Constitution al Weakness, as a preventive for colds and in all affec tions of the Chest generally, the Galvanic Strengthen ing Plaster will be found of great and permanent ad vantage. In a few words, it embraces all the advan* ages of the best tonic preparation, with the important addition of the Galvanic influence, which is neither impaired or exhausted, while the action continues. These articles will be found entirely free from those ob jections which are a constant sonree of complaint with the ordinary plasters in common use. The great celebrity and success of these ar ticles has caused them to be counterfeited by unprinci pled persons. To provide against imposition, Dr. Ohristie has but one authorized agent in each city of the Union. The only authorized Agency in Augusta, Ga., is at the store of H AVILAND, RISLEY & CO., Druggists, &c., &c. All articles of the kind, sold elsewhere, are worth less counterfeits. 529 PHILOTOKEN OR FEMALES’ FRIEND. Beauty, comfort and health SECURED ! by the use of that invaluable reme dy the Philotoken or Female’s Friend.” This medi cine is prepared from Roots that act in unison with nature, in the prevention, relief and cure of those dis orders peculiar to the Female system. Painful and disordered menstruation—the cause of premature old age, ofi barrenness, &c. —is speedily re lieved, and the regular healthful action of the organs secured, by the use of the Philotoken; and for all those sympathetic affections attendant on pregnancy —irritability, nausea, heart-burn, &c.; and as a preventive of periodical abortion, this remedy stands not only unrivalled, but is almost infallible. The Philotoken is put up in bottles at 81 each, with full directions. Its use can in no case do harm, and so certain is the proprietor that it will give unqualified satisfaction to all wflio use it according to the directions, that he authorises his agents to refund the money in any case where it fails. 0 For sale by the Druggists of Augusta. mh!B-tf NEUMONIC or COUGH BALSAM.- Fahnestock & Co’s Pneumonic or Cough BaJ sam, has proved itself to be of great ejfficacy in the cure of obstinate Coughs, Colds, Spitting of Blood, and othei affections of the lungs, and the proprietors feel warranted in recommending it as a safe and use ful medicine. Having no other vocation by which I could support even my small family, aside from planting, I am necessarily as vitally in terested in all the advantages that can be gained bv culture, seed, &c., «&c., as any other person. 1 have as assiduously as most persons, labored not so much to make the dimes as I have to secure the character of a good planter and farmer. Yet, without the dimes, one cannot labor so effectively, and as they are considered the test of good qualities, I have not entirely looked over their worth or acquirement. I have no idea of puffing any cotton seed, more especially having them for sale, nor any desire to puff myself in having the best seed. My object being, in thus premising my offer, to show that my interest s like others, and that, laboring for success, my expe Hence is worth attention ——only as much as that ol anyr other man who always remains at home, and attends to his own business. I have been purchasing seed every year whilst 0.1 this place since 1833 —absent ’37, *’3B and ’39. I have closely noticed the yield; generally once or twice during the year, I try the turn out from the gin stand. I have planted every exploded variety that has been brought into notice, not neglecting the Mas- j todon, but never yet giving up my stock seed. When I meet with an excellent variety for yield and pick ing qualities, I place that seed with my stock seed. I j reserve for planting from the best cotton I make, up to, . say first of October, and on adding to my selection I every year or two, I keep up a good producing article. My seed are not of the whitest Mexican, nor yet are they of the purest brown varieties, being really a mixed variety of what I have found to be the best Petit Gulf or Mexican seeds. These seed are thought to be good enough to be bought by rny neighbors, and I only offer them for sale at a distance, because the home demand is limited, and in too small quantities. I will put them up in three bushel sucks of twenty fire pounds each, thus there can be no false measur ing. I have never weighed seed at twenty-five pounds but once, they will average say twenty-three. My price will be, delivered on a boat in Vicksburg, in good order, 82.50 cents per sack. I will send none urdess ordered by the Editor or Proprietors of this paper whose orders will be always attended to with despatch, t I propose to any one making arrangements so as to place the funds in the hands of ray friend, James Martin, of Columbia, S. C., and who will take 100 to ; 500 sacks, to deduct 10 to 20 per cent, on this rate; or I will sell to any house in Augusta, Ga., or Savan nah, making said arrangement for 500 sacks at 81000. Should any planter in Carolina or Georgia, desire the Petit Gulf Seed, and will order enough to pay me for the labor, and make the order in time, I will go below, select the seed and attend to the sacking. I do not desire a large profit, but enough to pay me for time and trouble. I believe I can purchase seed be low cheaper than I can afford to send them to Vicks burg at, but at the same time, I would not exchange all my seed with any one in the Gulf, though theirs might be better. 1 offer my seed at what mine usually cost me, 75 cents per bushel, and I add cost of hauling, sacking, &c., at the same time 1 will put up full weight. Address, M. W. Philips, Edwards’ , Miss. I place the above price on my seed, believing that planters can well afford to pay that price, and I do not place any fictitious value oil my owu seed. The price ; will pay me well, and planters had better pay for a good producing, easy picking, early maturing seed, than to have ordinary seed hauled to them. 11 PERIFOCAL SPECTACLES. MXSCIiL ANY. i Hog Slaughtkring in Cincinnati. —In Cincinnati, it is well known, the business of hog slaughtering is carried to a high degree of perfection. The following article from the Commercial describes the celerity, economy and cleniiness attained in one of the largest es tabiishments: We visited on Thursday the new and exten sive slaughtering establishment of Messrs. i rank Beresford and Henry Bowman, in Deer Creek valley, near the junction of the Read ing road with that leading to Walnut Hills The buildings, pens, &c., connected with this immense establishment have been but recently erected, and afford facilities for slaughtering possessed by few, if any other house. The scalding vats are supplied by large boilers in the basement, and the entire establishment is provided with pure spring water, conducted in pipes, from a never-failing spring in the hill to the north. One thousand hogs, at this house, can be slaughtered and dressed, ready for the packer, iiua single day. The rapidity of the operations is astonishing. But about two minutes and a half elapsed in the transformation of a live hog to pork, ready dressed for the packer ! One person knocks it in the head, another cuts its throat, another rolls it into the scalding vat, two others lift it upon the dressing boards, where it is deprived of hair and bristles, and then swung up to be opened, &c. The latter operation is performed in about the half of a minute. Messrs. B. & B. receive only the entrails and hair as the price of slaughtering a hog, which averages, in worth, about forty cents per head ; being worked into sausage skins, lard for oil, &c. They kill for the raiser, who sells to the packer, at the house, after the hogs are dressed —there being a large sale room attached to the premises, in which 1,500 hogs can be hung at a time. In addition, about one hundred head of beef per day are slaughtered in another department of this establishment, for shipment, and in j which about thirty hands are employed. The i hog sluughteriug gives employment to a far greater number. This has no connexion with the daily market establishment of Messrs. B. & B. There is a cleanliness and purity about this establishment highly creditable to the proprie tors. A Remarkable Case.—We yesterday saw a letter from a distinguished physician in Lon don to another in this city in which the writer alluded to one of his patients, a lady of 35, who had had 32 children at 13 births, namely—4 twice, 3 three times, whilst most of the others were twins. This beats the case of the German mother who had 32 daughters at 1G births.— Phila . Inq. The Expenses attending the opening of the streets in the city of New York for the last ten years, amounts to the enormous sum of $3,- 842,521. Freaks of Nature.—A distinguished natu ralist, belonging to Chambery, in France, has recently sent, as a present to the Museum of j Natural History in Paris, several remarkable varieties of birds inhabiting the different sides of Mount Cenis. Among them are two dwarf specimens of the golden eagle, of a deep jet black color, and two common partridges, perfectly white. These specimens are said to be regarded »as great curiosities by the ornithologists of France. The Widows of the Signers.—Cist’s ad vertiser says; “I notice a statement in the public journals that the widow of Benjamin Rush, now 90 years of age, is still alive. She is therein stated to be the only survivor of the wives of the signers of the Declaration of In dependence. This is a mistake. Mrs. Chase, the widow of Judge Chase, of Maryland, sur vives, in the 98th year of her age. CANARY SEED. A SUPPLY of FRESH CANARY SEED just received and for tale by s7 WM. HAINES.
