Col Likens, says the Banner, crossed the Trinity at Robins’s Ferry, on Saturday, the 29th ult., with about forty recruits for the ran ging service. They suppose they are to take he place of Col. Highsmith’s company, whose term of service will shortly expire. The Houston Telegraph gives the following extract from a letter written at Austin on the 29th ult.: “ A number of Indians are down at and near Torrey's Trading House, to demand repara tion for the death of an Indian boy killed by some of Capt. Johnson's company. It is said that all families in that neighborhood have been sent into the settlements, on ecconnt of this unexpected movement on the part of the Indians. Mr Gray, the engineer, has just ar rived in town from Fredericksburg. He re ports that it lias been ascertained from John Castro that about 300 Camanches have gone down into the settlements on the Guadalupe, and that it is supposed that their object is hos tility. This party sent a deputation to Major Neighbors to get permission to go into the set tlements. which he refused. They have, not withstanding. gone down. Major Neighbors was to have left McCullough’s camp this mor ning for Torrey’s Trading House to quell the dissatisfaction in that quarter. We will, no doubt, hear from the party on the Guadalupe soon.” MOBILE, May 16.— Cotton —The demand since our fast report lias been chiefly for Eastern account, and lias run mostly on the better grades, which have become scarce and relatively high. COTTON.—Tha market to-day was very quiet and operations quite limited at the prices of the pre vious day. CHARLESTON, May 20. Cotton.—The Cotton market was very quiet on Saturday last. The article was in some demand, but dealers were unable to come to terras, as the one party were demanding prices which the other refused to give, and the transactions were consequently limited to about 300 bales, at the quotations current just prior to the receipt of the ad vices by the Britannic. The present week opened with a good demand, which, however, was confined chiefly to the better grades, and during Monday the I sales were rather heavy than otherwise, at improved 1 i rates; On Tuesday, however, there was a partial sus pension of operations, but the prices of the preceding ; | day were fully sustained. On Wednesday there was again some inquiry for the article, but buyers ! found a good deal of difficulty in effecting operations | in consequence of the high rates demanded, which to j a certain extent checked the transactions of the day; ! | °<) Thursday, however, they were in attendance, and yielding in a measure to circumstances they could not ; control, bought at very full prices. Yesterday little was done, and the week closes very quietly. The advices brought ovjr by the steamer Cambria, have exercised n> influence whatever over prices, which i have been controlled solely by the demand and the i limited supply on sale, particularly of the better quali- i ties, which have been in most request; in fact, so I little lias been done in the common kinds, that they | have rather depreciated in value. The sale ;of the week reach 3663 bales, against the receipt in same j ! time of 4296 bales. The transactions comprise 137 I bales at 5, 158 at 54, 45 at 54, 81 at s§, 53 at 54, 94 at 51, 35 at s|, 138 at 54, 91 at 6, 165 at 64, , 720 at 64. 133 at bg, 1143 at 64, 200 at 6|, and i 670 bales at 6| cents per lb. The following quota : tions will give a fair criterion of the actual state of I the market at theclose of the week, viz : Inferior —; i 1 ordinary to good ordinary 5| a 54 ; middling to good 1 middling 5f a 6; middling fair 64 a 64 ; fair and | fully fair 6| a 6jj; .and good fair and fine 6f a—, j It will thus be seen that the bo’ter qualities have ad vanced since our former report 4 a 4c. Near 300 bales long Cotton have been sold —50 bales Sea Island, at prices ranging from 14 to 20c. and upwards; I 150 do Santee from 15 to 18c.; and near 100 bales j Floridas from 11 to 124 c. We continue to quote fair tn good qualities s2g a S 3 ; and §34 per hundred lor prime. The sales were within the range of these figures. Corn. —3000 bushels North Carolina was sold in the neighborhood of 58c. per bushel. About 1500 sacks Western have reached us this week, 1200 sacks of which brought 50c., sacks included. Several small parcels country and Georgia have also been sold within the range of 50 a 55c. Oats. —There have been received from N. Orleans 1000 sacks, 800 of which were taken by a dealer at j 43c., sacks included. Elour. —The Flour market has been very much I depresed since our former report, owing to the heavy 1 receipts from New Orleans, 1740 bbls ; and Western ! brands have declined in value. We quote 5* a 5| — j the latter price for small lots. There was a sale of ; 200 barrels for export at 54 per barrel. The stocks of 1 Georgia and country brands are very light, and the : rates current at the close of the previous week have ; been sustained; but the market was very heavy for I these descriptions when we closed our inquiries yester- | day, and whether our present rates will be sustained, | remains to be -oen. We are thus particular, because | the descriptions noticed above comprise a very large pro (Kir t ion of the stock on sale. Suit. —The receipts of the week comprise 2000 sacks, which were disposed of at a price equal to SI per sack. Bacon. —The supply ofShoulders and Sides, which at the close of the previous week was rather light, has been considerably augmented since our last, by the arrival of upwards of 350 hhds., chiefly Sides. The price of Hams range from 7to I2c. Lard. —We have no transactions to report. 1 Sugar. —The supply on the market is still very ! heavy; and all descriptions arc neglected. We have ■ no sales to report, and under existing circumstances it 1 is impossible to give quotations. I Coffee. —Upwards of 500 bags Rio description ; have been sold, at prices ranging from 6| to 74c. Molasses. —The arrivals comprise 42 hhds. Cuba, which have gone into store, and 100 tierces Muscova* do, which were sold at 22c. per gallon. About 80 bbls. have also been received from New Orleans, and j taken into store; upwards of 100 bbls., however, of 1 this description, of a previous arrival, have been sold i out in lots at 26 and 27c per gallon. Domestic Liyuors. —Received since our last from , New Orleans 350 bbls., none of which has changed ’ hands; sales, however, have been made from store of ] about 5000 bbls at 20c per gallon, cash and time. We have no transactions to report in other descrip tions. Exchange. —Bank rates for selling Bills on Eng , land, nominal, France do.; Checks on New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Boston f percent, prem. freights —We have no change to notice, except an j increased difficulty in procuring freight.
