The liberal patronage he has received for he last few years has induced him this year to go to great additional expense in making preparations to fur nish the Planters with Gins far superior to any Jmk tofore made. Those who wish it can have them SUPERIOR WATER BOXES, which will prevent the possibility oftbeir taking fire by friction. He also continues to use his OIL CUPS OR FEEDERS, which he was the first to introduce in this State, and which saves much trouble in oiling. The superiority of his Gins has been fully tested for the last few years in making fine cotton, and in ginning as fast as could be reasonably required, the cotton from them bringing the highest price in all the markets ; and he trusts by anreinitting attention to business, that he will contin ue to receive the liberal patronage of the cotton planters of this State, which it will be his highest ambition to merit. Contracts for his Gins may be made with his travelling agents, or by writing to him at Madison, where all orders will be promptly attended to, and bis Gins are warranted to perform well in all respects, if used according to the directions sent with each Gin, and will be delivered at the purchaser’s residence. Johnson. Oh! wilt thou Jove me, when the raven curls That o’er my bosom flow, | Shall be bound with the silver threads of age Like Winter’ hoary enow? Wilt love me when the Summer’s rosy smiles, Enhue my cheek no more; ; And yon bright beacon-stars are veiled in'clouds, And dreams of youth are o’er? j Oh ! wilt thou love me, when the change/ul eyes Grow dim with sorrow’s rain— -1 he bosom beating softly ’gainst thy own, j So full with care and pain ? ; Wilt love me when the thrilling thoughts of youth In blushing bloom de;iart; And Sorrow’s dark corroding chills of pain, Are pressing on my heart 1 As rose-buds bloom when sunny Spring comes round And warmly smiles again ; As shrubs, low fainting in the noon-tide lieat, Revive in summer rain ; As home-bound sailors, welcome breezes fair To waft them to their goal; My wearied, drooping Spirit turns to theo, Star of my trusting soul! Remember, none have ever, ever known, This heart so light and free ; None other with a faultless step, has press’d Its Utmost shades, but thee ! Then wilt thou love me when the raven curls That o’er my bosom flow, Shall be bound with the silver threads of age, Like winter’s hoary snow ? Important Invention in Mechanics. The following sketch will give an idea of a machine, the model of which has been exhibit ed in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It is the inven tion of Mr. Jesse Andrews, of that State, and is designed to dispense with the use of the crank in all applications of steam to machinery. It is stated that Mr. Andrews has devoted years of study and experiment in order to attain the end now reached : “ In the construction of this machine the crank which is almost invariably used, and more especially in the propulsion of boats, is entirely dispensed with, and a strong chain of particular construction is used in its stead, with suitable machinery to operate on the chain, which produces all the motion that can possibly be produced by the use of a crank, and that motion steady, smooth and regular, en tirely free from the jarring and shaking pro duced by the revolutions of a crank, the power at all times being the same. There are no dead points to pass, and thus all the powder created is advantageously employed, and with all possi ble ease and convenience. It is made to run either forward or backward, nr put at a nputml nnint ivliaro it ..rill J - : either way, and in that situation the steam can be worked off without any reference to any other machinery commonly used for that pur pose. And it is immaterial whether, according m the common mode now in use, the steam be let into the cylinder tor a lorward or backward motion; for if in this invention the piston rod has its common motion it is readily made to turn either way, rendering entirely useless a great deal of machinery connected with the cylinder for such purposes. As there are no dead points, all the power created is constantly em ployed to the great possible advantage in con sequence of which much of the expense of machinery with its ponderous weight and great room necessarily occupied by it, with a large portion of fuel, &c., may be entirely dispensed with. In the use of this improvement there is no more room occupied in any respect, as it only occupies a small space between the head of the piston and the shaft of the water wheel. The whole of this invention is plain and simple, and no ways complicated, and needs only to be seen to be approved and brought into imme diate use.” The inventor, as we learn from the Sentinel, is now getting made, by an ingenious artisan, a complete model of brass and iron, which he intends presenting at the Patent office of the United States, and claiming a patent for his valuable discovery. An Interesting Incident. —The sagacity of the dog has become a familiar fact in natural history, but an incident connected with the sa ving of life during the recent casualty from drowning on the front beach of Sullivan’s Island, merits record .as affording a striking il lustration of the instinct or sagacity of that an imal. When the alarm was given Mr. George Moffett threw off his upper garment and pro ceeded to the assistance of the daughters of Mr, llarleston. A large Newfoundland dog, owned by his brother, Mr. John Moffett, was restrained from entering the water lor fear of a larming them, but by the time they were reach ed by Mr. M., the animal having escaped and leaped into the water, seized one of the young ladies by the shoulder, but lost his hold, —she was, however, saved by Mr. Moffett. The dog then seized another of the young ladies with his teeth, and the third clung to his back on which he proceeded with his double burthen to the shore. Before he reached it, however, a boat came to their assistance, when they and the dog were taken on board. —Charleston Courier. L)Y EING AND S C O U 111 N G ESTABLISHMENT.
