Commercial. AUGUSTA MARKET. Weekly Report Tuesday, P. M. COTTON.—The receipts of Cotton at Augusta and Hamburg up to the Ist of August this year reach ed 281,861 against 183,230 bales last year. »The re ceipts of the month of July were only 919 bales against 3,172 lastyear. Shipments during the past season have been 293,625 bales, leaving a stock on hand of 14,619 bales against 33,849 bales last year. The past week has been a quiet one in our Cotton market in the way of selling Cotton. Holders are asking such high rates and offering their stocks so sparingly that ,buyers prefer waiting to paying me prices now demanded. The sales of the week have been very limited not reaching over 400 bales at about *c. higher than last week’s prices. We quote: Middling 9 a— Good middling 91 a 95 Middling fair 91 a— Pair —a The shipments during the past week have reduced our stock since the Ist of August about 600 bales, and the receipts have been very moderate. Our tables below show that the receipts at all the ports now reach 2,684,832 against 2,327,805 bales last year at same date, showing an excess of receipts of 408 026 bales. The total of receipts at the Atlantic ports are much heavier than they have ever been, .reaching 857,635 bales this year, whilst in ,1848 at this date they were only 483,815 bales, and in 1847 592,569 bales. The stocks reported are also very greatly reduced both at the sea-board and in the in teriortowns. We give them as reported from the different papers, but from the discrepancies which we . have lately perceived in them we believe there are many errors in them. The stock at all points, both . sea board and interior, including the last statement rrom New York, is now reduced to 153,642 bales against 253,350 bales at same dates last year. Pri vate letters state that the stock in New York is ei aS£erated about 10,000 bales. The exports this year have been very heavy both Foreign and Coastwise. The foreign exports reach 2,192.139 bales against 1,773,785 bales last year; and shipments from the Southern to the Northern 770,212 against 651,217 bales. Prom the receipts in Great Britain already noticed of shipments to that country there is not over 150,000 bales now on the way to be added to their stock. Receipts up to latest dates. 1848-9. 1847-8. As regards the crop in the West and Southwest we refer our readers to the extracts which we publish. REMARKS—Orders from the interior have created quite an improvement in the business of the city dur ing the past week, and as our stocks are large our dealers find no difficnlty in filling them on very ac commodating terms to the merchants of the interior. GRAIN.—The receipts of Corn have been large and prices have fallen to 50 cts. per bushel, at which rate about 2000 bushels were sold during the week. FLOUR.—No Country Flour is brought to mar ket and fresh ground from new Wheat will readily command 4 cts. at retail. Our market is well sup plied with Baltimore and Canal Flour for the season of the year. BACON.—Receipts of the past week moderate and prices gradually stiffening. Good Sides canmt be bought under 6* cts. and are held higher by some. Shoulders according to quality, 4$ a sc. Good Hams are scarce and would meet with readr sale, a choice article is retailing at from 11 to 12* cents. BAGGING AND BALE ROPE.—Some demand has prevailed during the past week and from the light stock of Gunny Bagging holders are trying to ad vance the price at retail from 21 a22 cts. The stock of Kentucky is very trifling and the stock of Dundee :s on the increase and is selling from 18 to 20 cents. Cotton from 32 to 36 inches wide from 17 to 18 cts. Rope is selling from 10 to 12 cts., according to quali ty. The importation of Dundee Bagging last week into Charleston was over 8000 pieces. SALT.—The receipts of Salt during the month of July was 8,421 sacks, and from the Ist of August to date 2,744 tacks. EXCHANGE.—Checks on the North are dull at * per cent, prem. Out door sales are made from par prem. Money is abundant and negotia tions are rarely made. FREIGHTS.—Our river has risen about 6 feet daring the past week and is now falling slowly. Wo look to see a good river for our fall business. D., consisting of a preparation of magnetised Chloride of Gold, combined with various other materials with great care and by a laborious process, and of a Bituminous Plaster, have been test ed by an extensive practice of twenty-five years con tinuance, and may now justly be considered as more successful than any known remedy in the treatment of Consumption in all its earl}' stages, and of all Tu berculous and Scrofulous diseases. For this class of complaints they are now extensively adopted by phy sicians in their own practice in various parts of the country. They are prepared by us under the direc tion of the Executrix of the Estate of the late Doctor Sherwood, to whom, by his will, his medical recipes are entrusted, in the same manner in all respects os heretofore and are always accompanied by Dr. Sher vrood’s valuable medical treatise upon the Motive Power of the Human System, a work which was the result of many years of labor and research, and which shows in the clearest manner the principles upon which the operation of his remedies is founded, and their inode of cure.
