GORDON’S FAMILY PlLLS—being compounded exclusively of such ingredients as Nature intended should operate on the impurities of the Human System- strike at the root of the disease, removing all impurities from the body, opening the pores externally and internally, separating all foreign and obnoxious particles from the chyle, so that the blood, of which it is the origin, must be thoroughly "““pure —necessarily securing a free and vigorous action to the Heart, Lungs, Liver and Stomach, thereby restoring health, by opening the pores, cleansing the veins and arteries, unimpeding all the natural veins and purifying the blood, they render the system not only thoroughly sound, but also impervious to disease, even when all other means have failed. Within the last twelve months, more than one hun dred cases of the most aggravated forms of Dyspep sia have been cured by the Medicine, where rig’.c 1 dieting, the Blue Pill, and almost every other means had been resorted to, without any benefit, and when death stared its miserable victim fully in the face. If Dr. Gordon’s Pills were not adapted to the cure of any but this horrid malady, their uniform success in this disease alone would be sufficient to “ waft on to fame ” the name of their inventor, as a benefactor of his species. BY RECENT improvements in these Machines, their power is doubled in cases of the same size, and the prices reduced tosl2and sl4 each; the sl2 sizes being greatly superior to the sl2 sizes of other machines. They now run with more power and smoothness, and are better adapted for magnetizing patients than any other in use. With regard to the diseases in which electro-mag netism is most beneficial, it would seem from general experience that it is most valuable in all complaints affecting principally the muscles and nervous system, such as Rheumatism, Paralysis of any or all the limbs, Curvatures of the Spine, Epilepsy, Tic Doulyureax, Shaking Palsy, and Headaches. In Consumption , it is found of great value as an aid to respiration, and in reducing the mucous disease of the bronchial tubes. In various other chronic diseases, involving great debility and loss of vital energy, it has also proved of great service, by increasing muscu lar power, artd strengthening the tone of the system. It is well known that Dr. Sherwood was the first to introduce electro-magnetism into general medical use, and that his machines have an established reputation superior to any others for simplicity and power com bined. Cramps, Convulsions, Ac., renders it the most valuable medi cine ever discovered. In fact, as a remedy for the above diseases it stands unrivalled and alone. There is no other reliable remedy. It has been said that Fpilepsy is incurable. This, however, is not the fact. Dr. Hart's Vegetable Extract has and is constantly curing this distressing complaint, us the following tes timony received from Physicians and others will show ; Judge Rundall, 156 Henry-st,, New York, having used the Vegetable Extract successfully in his family, highly recommends it to all persons who are afflicted with Fits. Mr. Stephen E. Pratt, corner ofSixth Avenue and Twenty-sixth-st., New York, states that Mr. Chas. H. Bougbton, a member of his family, has been so severely afflicted with Epileptic Fits for many years, that he was obliged to relinquish his business. Hav ing used Dr. Hart’s Vegetable Extract (says Mr. Pratt) he was soon restored to perfect health, and left this city for the State of Ohio to resume his business. Rev. Mr. Smith, Rector of St. Peters Church, Spots wood, New Jersey, who has been afflicted with Epi leptic Pits for more than forty years, states that he has used Dr. Hart’s Vegetable Extract and his health has been so much improved that he hopes by Divine blessing, to have no more Fits. Af ter travelling through England, Scotland, Germany and France, consulting the most eminent physicians, and expending for medicine, medical treatment, and advice three thousand dollars, returned with his son to this country in November last, without receiving any benefit whatever, and was cured by using Hart’s Vegetable Extract: | Mr. William Secore's Letter to Dr. Hart.] • I have spent over three thousand dollars for medi cine and medical attendance. I was adviced to take a tour to Europe with him, which 1 did. 1 first vis ited England. 1 consulted the most eminent physi cians there in respect to his case; they examined him and prescribed accordingly. I remained there three months without perceiving any change for the bet'er, which cost me about two hundred and fifty dollars, pocketed by the physicians, and the roost that I re ceived was their opinion that my son’scase washope lessand POSITIVELY INCURABLE. I according ly left England, travelled through Scotland, Germany and France, and returned home in the month of No vember last, with my son as far from being cured as when I left. I saw your advertisement fn one ol the New York papers, and concluded to try Hart’s Vege table Extract, seeing your statements and certificates of so many cures, some of twenty and thirty years standing, and I can assure you I am not sorry I did so, as by the use of Hart’s Vegetable Extract alone he was restored to PERFECT HEALTH. His reason, which was so far gone as to unfit him for businesses en tirely restored, with the prospect now before him oflife, > health and usefulness. He is now 28 years of age, and 27 years 6 months of this time has been afflicted with this most dreadful of diseases, but thank God I now enjoying good health. Afflicted : “be wise in time ’lis folly to defer.” the following testimony : Philadelphia, Nov. 22, 1848. —Dr. Keeler—Dear Sir:—l take great pleasure in bearing testimony in behalf of your valuable rrredicine, Sarsaparilla. I have been using it for a pain in the side of long standing, which was occasioned by a severe attack of Pleurisy and fever several years since in the W est. For several months past my health has been failing, and the pain in the side, so severe at times as to dis able me from attending to my business. I have used many remedies with scarce any benefit until I com menced using your Sarsaparilla, since which lime my health has gradually improved, so much so that at the present time I enjoy much better health than for years past. I have used the medicine in my family, and consider it infinitely superior to any remedy, within my knowledge in chronic affections of the chest and organs of digestion. HENRY THOMAS. 142 South Second-st. Philadelphia, Nov. 24, 1848. —Dr. Keeler—Dear Sir : I feel it my duty to state to you the good effects your Sarsaparilla produced on a son of mine, who has been for several years afflicted with what physi cians have termed Scrofula. He has been somewhat hard of hearing for several years, accompanied with a constant discharge from the ears, and a dull heavy pain across the forehead ; his general health quite feeble, appetite precarious, and bowels irregular. There were swellings of the ne'.k and at the angle of the jaws, the complexion of an ashy paleness, and all the characterise -s of wasting health. At your re quest, I commenced giving him your Sarsaparilla and I am rejoiced to state that after using three bottles, there has been a remarkable change for the belter. The pain across the forehead is entirely gone, the swel lings have disappeared, the color of the skin is now line one enjoying good health, indeed he now says he feels well, appetite good, sleeps well, and is really changed, which I attribute solely to your medicine. I feel fully satisfied from what I have witnessed in my own child, that it is a medicine of unsurpassed power in diseases of a Scrofulous character. TO THE PUBLIC.—This preparation has acquired a very extended and established celeb rity in most t f the Southern States of the Union—both in the hands of Physicians and private use —which its efficacy alone has sustained for several years, as a remedy for Scrofula or King’s Evil, Ulcerated Sore Throat, long standing Rheumatic Affections, Diseases of the Skin, old Sores, White Swellings, Diseases of the Bones, and all cases of an ulcerous character. It is also particularly useful in chronic and nervous complaints occurring in debilitated and cachetic con stitutions. Over Syphilis and the host of painful, dis agreeable and hitherto incurable affections resulting therefrom, such as Ulcers of the Throat, Larynx, Nodes, &c., and all those evils occasioned by an im proper and injudicious use of “ mercury , ” it dis plays complete control. It has been found to be a most useful purifier of the blood in all such diseases. In all complicated cases of Scrofula and Syphilis, and in cases where the Syphilitic virus of the parent causes a development of Syphilis or Scrofula in the child, this is the only remedy upon which the hope of recovery can be reasonably founded. It relieves the disease, and at the same time imparts vigor to the whole system —under the use of this medicine, the patient is enabled to take nourishing food, which in other practice is withheld. In many cases where the horrible ravages of disease have taken so deep root that patients have been given up by the most skilful Physicians, the disease has been arrested and the pa tient restored to good health, &c., and the most rea sonable expectations fully satisfied. The cures performed in this city alone, are suffi cient to establish its reputation on a permanent basis, and too solid to be effected either by the malignant or envious. It is worthy of note that the greater part of the patients cured, had previously to using this pre paration, received the best medical treatment and given up by their Physicians, as being beyond the reach of medical skill. It is, however, advisable that it should be given, if practicable, under the superin tendence of a Physician, for him to prescribe such other remedies in conjunction with this, as the neces sity of the case may require. This preparation has put into the hands of Physicians a remedy by which they can master a variety ofdiseases, which have hith erto baffled the greatest skill and study. It is a safe and harmless medicine, and removes all those evils which an unsuccessful use of mercury so often occa sions. Price SI per Bottle, or S 5 sos six Bottles, Prepared and for sale by J. P. Yet he assumes the title of Dr., for the purpose of gaining credit for what he is not. He is also sending out cards headed “ Tricks of Quacks,” in which be says, I have sold the nse of my name for 61 a week. I will give S. P. Principal office, 102 Naeiau-et., JVei c-York City. OX.S DOCTOR Jacob Townsend, THE ORIGINAL W DISCOVERER OF THE GENUINE TOWNSEND SARSAPARILLA Old Dr. Townsend is now about *0 years of age, and hae long beei known as the AUTHOR and DISCOVERER of the GENUINI ORIGINAL “TOWNSEND SARSAPARILLA.” Being poor, b was compelled to limit its manufacture, by which means it has heel kept out of market, and the sales circumscribed to those only who ha proved its worth and known its value. It had reached the ears of ma ny, nevertheless, as those persons who had been healed of sore du eases, and saved from death, proclaimed its excellence and wonderfu HEALING POWER. This Grand and Unequalled Preparation is manufactured on the largest scale, and is called for throughout th length and breadth of the land. Unlike young S. P. Townsend’s, it improves with ape, and nets changes, but for th© better ; because it is prepared on scientific prin ciple* by a scientific man. The highest knowledge of Chemistry, am the latest discoveries of the Art, have all been brought into reouieitioi in the manufacture of the OLD DR.’S SARSAPARILLA. The Sar saparilla root, it is well known to medical men, contains medicinal pro perties, and some properties which are inert or useless ; and others which, if retained in preparing it for use, produce fermentation and acid which is injurious to the system. Some of the properties of Sarsaparill are so volatile that they entirely evaporate and are lost in the prepara lion. If they are not preserved by a ecienufie process, known only t. those experienced in its manufacture. Moreover these volatile pri’ncl pies, which fl»off in vapor, or as an exhalation, under heat, are th. very essential medical properties of the root, which gives to it ail it value. The GENUINE Hid Hr. Jacob Townsend’s Sarsaparilla is so prepared, that all the inert properties of the Sarsaparilla root are first removed, everything capable of beev. iring acid or of fermenta lion, is extracted and rejected ; then every particle of medical virtu, is. secured in a pure and concentrated form ; and thus it is renderet. incapable of losing any of its valuable and healing properties. Pra pared in this way, it is made the most powerful agent in the Cure of Innumerable Diseases. Hence the reason why we hear commendations on every side in it* favor by men, women and children. We find it doing wonder* In the :ure ol CONSUMPTION, DYSPEPSIA, and LIVER COMPLAINT, and n RHEUMATISM, SCROFULA and PILES, COSTIVENEBS a'l CUTANEOUS ERUPTIONS, PIMPLES, BLOTCHES , and ail tllections arising from Impurity of the Blood. It possesses a marvellous efcacy in all complaiats arising from In- Jigesiion, fi om Acidity of the Stomach ; from unequal circulation de termination of blood to the head, palpitation of the heart, cold feet and :old hands, cold chills and hot flashes over tbs hod/. It ha* not hod ta equal in coughs and colds ; and promote* easy expectoration, and gentle perspiratioa. relaxing stricture of the lungs, throat, and every Jther part. But in nothing is its excellence more manifestly teen and ackrnw than in all kinds and stave* of ,i Female t'ornplaiua. It works wonders in cases of fiuor albus or whites, Falling of th Womb, Obstructed, Suppressed, or Painful Menses, Irregularity o the menstrual periods, and the like ; and is effectual lu curing all form of the Kidney Disease. By removing obstructions, and regulating the general system, itgivei tone and strength to the whole body, and cures all forma of Ncrroni Bivenses aud Hebllity, and time prevent* or relieves a great variety of other diseases, «* Spina Irritation, Neuralgia, St. Vitus Dance, Swooning, Epileptic Fils, Con vuitions, <te. It is not pos* ible for this medicine to fail to do good ; it has nothin. Id it which can ever harm ; it can never sour or spoil, ami therefor, can never lose it* curative properties. It cleanses the blood, excite Vbe liver to healthy action, tones the stomach and gives good digestion relieves the bowels of torpor and constipation, allays inflammation purifies the skin, equalizes the circulation of the blood, producing gen tie warmth equally all over the body, and the ineensitile perspiration relaxes all strictures and lightness, removes ail obstructions, and iu vigorates the entire nervous system. Is not this, then, The medicine you Pre-eminently Need ! But can any of these things he said of S. P. Townsend’s inferie. article 1 This young man’s liquid is not to be Compared with the Old Dr.’s, Because of one GRAND FACT, that the one is INCAPABLE of DK TERIORATION and Never Spoils, while the other DOES; it sours, ferments, and blows the bottle, containing it into fragments ; the sour, acid liquid exploding an. damaging other goods 1 Must not this horrible compound be poison ou* to the system? What I put acid into a system already diseased will acid I What causes Dyspepsia bill acid ? Do ws not all know, tha when food sours in our stomachs, what mischief* it produces ?—flatu lence, heartburn, palpitation of the heart, liver complaint, diarrhoea dysentery, cholic and corruption of the blood ? What is Scrofult but an acid humor in the body i WHSt produces ail the humors whicl bring on Eruptions of the Skin, Scald Head, Sail Rheum, Erysipelas Wh te Swelling*, Fever-Sores, and all ulcerations internal and exter u&l ? It is nothing under heaven but an acid substance, which sour* and thus spoils all the fluids of the body, more or less. What cause Rheumatism butasouracid fluid, which insinuates itself between th ointe and else where, irritating and inflaming the lender and delicat tissue* upon which it act* i So es nervous diseases, of impurity o the blood, of deranged circulations, and nearly all the ailments whicl afflict human nature. Now, is it not horrible to make and sell, aud infinitely worse to us this Souring, Fermenting, Acid “ Compound’ OF S. P. TOWNSEND! and yet he would fain have it understood that Old Jacob Townsend’ GENUINE ORIGINAL SARSAPARILLA, is an IMITATION c hie inferior preparation ! 1 Heaven forbid that we should deal in an article which would bea the most distant resemblance to S. P. Townsend’s article ! unn whicl should bringdown upun the Old Dr. such a mountain load of com plaints and criminations from agents who have sold, ami purchaser who have used S. P. Jacob Townsend’s Sarsaparilla ar heaven-wide apart, and infinitely dissimilar; that they are uahke ii every nerDcalar, having not one single thing in common. As S. P. Townsetd is no doctor, and never was, is no chemist, no phar macro mi—knows no more of medicine or disease, than any othei common, unscientific, unprofessional man. what guaranies can tht public have that they are receiving a genuine scientific medicine con taming alt the virtunes of the articles used in preparing it, and whicl are incapable of changes, which might reader them the AGENTS o DISEASE instead of health i It ie to arrest frauds upon the unfortunate, to pour balm int wounded humanity, to kindle hope In the despairing bosom, to restor health and blocra an J vigor into the crushed ami broken and to banisl infirmity—that old DR. In this preparation arestrongly concentrated all the Medicinal properties of Sarsaparilla , combined with the most effectual aids, the most salutary productions, the most potent simples of the vegetable kingdom ; and it has been so fully tested, not only by patients themselves, but also by Physicians, that it has re ceived their unqualified recommendations ana the ap probation of the public ; and has established on its own merits a reputation for '.alue and efficacy far su perior to the various compounds bearing the name of Sarsaparilla. Diseases have been cured, such as are not furnished in the records of time past; and what it has already done for the thousands who have used it, it is capable of doing for the millions still suffering and struggling with disease. It purifies, cleanses and strengthens the fountain springs of life, and infuses new vigor throughout the whole animal frame. The diseases for which this article is recommended are those to wtiich it is known from personal experi ence to be adapted ; and those apparently removed beyond the sphere of its action have yielded to its in fluence. The catalogue of complaints might be great ly extended to which the Sarsaparilla is adapted, but experience proves its value, and each succeeding day is adding new trophies to its fame. Extract from a letter from Mr. Ingraham, a gen tleman well known in Delaware county. It com mends itself to all similarly afflicted ; Roxbuby, N. Y., March 26, 1847. —Gentlemen ; My wife has used several bottles of your Sarsaparilla, which I obtained of your agents in this place, from which she has received such special benefit, that 1 am induced to add mine to the abundant testimony now before the public in favor of its medicinal virtues.— Her father, mother, and many other relatives have fallen victims to consumption, and it was supposed that she too was inclined the same way. She had several turns of raising blood, &c., and at length be came so reduced that her life was despaired of from day to day We were induced to try your Sarsapa rilla, as before mentioned, from the use of which her health has been restored ; so that for the past year she has been able to attend to her domestic duties. Respectfully yours, JOHN B. INGRAHAM. ANOTHER CURE OP SCROFULA. The following striking, and as will be seen, per manent cure of an inveterate case of Scrofula, com mends itself to all similarly afflicted ; Southport, Conn., January 1, 1848 — Messrs. Sands: Gentlemen—Sympathy for the afflicted in duces me to inform you of the remarkable cure effect ed by your Satsaparilla in the case of my wife. She was severely afflicted with the Scrofula on different parts of the body ; the glands of th? neck were great ly enlarged and her limbs much swollen. After suf fering over a year and finding no relief from the rem edies used, the disease attacked one leg, and below the knee suppurated. Her physician advised itshould be laid open, which was done, but without any per manent benefit. In this situation we heard of, and was induced to try Sands’ Sarsaparilla. The first bottle produced a decided and favorable effect, re lieving her more than any prescription she had e/er taken, and before she had used six bottles, to the as tonishment and delight of her friends, she found her health quite restored. It is now over a year since the cure was effected, and her health remains good, show ing the disease was thoroughly eradicated from the system. Our neighbors are all knowing to these facts, and think very highly of Sands’ Sarsaparilla. Yours, with respect, JULIUS PIKE. FEVER SORES. The following certificate received by our Agent shows its value in cases of Fever Sores: Chicago, 111., Sept. 12, 1846. — Messrs. Stebbins tf* Reed —Gents; In May, 1845, I obtained at your store a bottle of Sarsaparilla, and was then confined to my bed without sleep for i week, occasioned by a violent pain, from a regular fever sore, of long stand ing, on my right leg. My physician advised me to have the limb amputated, saying it was the only means likely to preserve my life. After using half of the bottle the pain began to subside, and by the time I had bsed nearly three bottles, I was able to transact my regular business; and, before I had finished the fourth bottle, I was as well and as sound as ever I had been. I have no hesitation in saying that Sands’ Sar saparilla was the means, under Providence, of saving my limb and I doubt not ray life. I most cheerfully recommend it as the best article extant for the purifi cation of the blood. Yours, most respectfully, JAMES MILLER. Prepared and sold, wholesale and retail, by A. B. & D. THOSE WHO have felt the painful throbbing and excruciating pangs of this disease shooting through their jaws with most tormenting perseverance, and, as is often the case, have received but little sym nathy from friends on such occasions, will no doubt be much pleased to know of a remedy that will never fail to quiet forever the unmerciful offender. This remedy is the CLOVE ANODYNE, an unfailing cure. « The following testimony is from one of our most distinguished practical Dentists: New York, Dec. 10, 1844. Messrs. A. B. tf* D.
