WESLEYAN FEMALE COLLEGE.
THE DUTIES of this Institution will be re
sumed on the FIRST MONDAY in October,
1649.
The College is situated upon a high and healthy
hill, overlooking the city of Macon, and yffers to the
public superior educational advantages. The Hoard
of Instruction is composed of Rev. W, H. Ellison, D,
D., President, and Revs. E. H. Myers, A. M., James
R. Thomas, A. M., and George H. Hancock, A. M.,
Professors of Science and L iterature ; Mr. P. G. Gul
tenberger, Professor of Music, and Mrs. S. S. Han
cock, Governess, and Teacher of Ornamental Branch
es. There will be hereafter a Preparatory Class un
der the charge of the Faculty, assisted by competent
instructors, to lit pupils for entering College.
The Collegiate year (or Term) extends from first
October to the 11th July, 1830, and every expense in
the College course, including Tuition, Board,
Bights, Washing, Books and Stationary , may be
more than covered by Two Hundred Dollars !
The above statement applies only to the course of
Literary instruction. The extra studies, which are
at the option oi the parent, are charged as follows ;
M usic and use of Piano 355 Q 0
Drawing and Painting 25 00
Ancient Languages, (each) 20 00
The French Language is taught to those who desire
it, without extra charge.
Tuition in Preparatory Class.... 525 00
Candidates for the First Class must be in their
14th year, and a corresponding age is required in the
candidates for the higher classes.
It is very desirable that pupils be present at the
opening of »he Terra. The classes are then formed,
and tho e young ladies who enter upon tbe course
with their class, possess a decided advantage over
those who are admitted after the classes have pro
gressed in the studies of the year.
Any other information needed, will be furnished on
application to the President, or to
E. H. MYERS, Secretary of the Faculty.

3,000 DOLLARS REWARD!
Reuben Rloli’s Patent Centre Vent
WATER WHEfeli,
For Factories, Saw and Grist Mills , Cotton Gins,
and every other purport to which a Water Wheel
can be applied. (Made entirely of Iron, with Iron
Gates,) AGAINST TURBINE, HOTCHKISS
AND ALL OTHER WHEELS.
IAVILU GI VE SSOO reward to any person who
will produce a patent WATER WHEEL that
will do as much business with the same quantity of
water under any given head, from three to thirty feet.
I will give 8500 to any person who will produce a
Breast Wheel under a head of eight feet or less, that
shall equal it in power and saving of water.
I will give the same amount to any one who will
produce an overshot or undershot, that will last with
my Wheel, and not cost more money sooner or later;
or
I will give the same reward to any man who will
produce an overshot, undershot, or Breast Wheel, that
will run as steady as my Wheel; or,
I will give 8500 to any one who will produce a
Wheel of any sort or kind, patented or not, that will
combine, to the same extent, cheapness, durability,
power, speed or simplicity, so easily applied in all
situations, and so universally applicable to all pur
poses and every location.
Or, I will give 8500 to any one who will produce a
Hotchkiss V\ heel that does not consume fifty per cent
more water to do the same Sawing or Grinding.
This W heel (one of the greatest inventions of the
age !) combines every qualiiy that is desired in a Wa
ter VV heel. It is adapted to every head and fill,
from two feet to any height,—is equal, in economy of
water, to any Breast or Over shot Wheel, under a
high head ol water, and superior under a low or
medium head, —is more durable, less likely to get
out ot order, -and is infinitely cheaper. It is also
incomparably more steady in its motion,— sufficient
ly 9 °- indeed, as to require no Governor, even with
Colton Factories making the finest fabrics !
It has many other advantages over the Breast and
Over shot Wheel. The first is in being so compact
that it can be applied where there is not room for
these Wheels, the largest size being but 5 feet in di
ameter. The second is, that being much quicker in
its moiion, the intermediate gearing required in the
Over-shot to get up speed, is with 1 Bis Wheel wholly
dispensed with. Third, that the higher the head, tire
smaller the Wheel. Under a head of 35 feet a Wheel
16 inches diameter, venting 18 inches of water, is
equal to a power of 15 Horses.
It is superior to the Tub or Flutter Wheel, for it
does not require more than one fourth to one third
the water, and is more durable, and not much if any
more expensive.
It is likewise superior to any of the Re-action
Wheels, now in use in the South, for it keeps in or
der a much greater length of time, and uses not more
than about one half the water !
3* It is superior to Wooden Wheels of all kinds ; runs
under back water and secures the entire head and
fall.
For Co ton Gins it is the only Wheel; with a small
quantify' of water, and under any head, the Gin can
be driven. (It is well known that a Water Gin will
turn out belter Cotton and more of it in a day.)
On tide water , these Wheels can be run 12 to IS
hours out of 24, and cost but little, compared with any
other.
In level countries they can be used where there is a
good supply of water, and a head of only 2 or 3 feet;
superceding the use of stesm, on account ol their
cheapness.
The price of this Wheel, with right of use inclu
ded, for Saw and Grist Mills, varies from 8125 to
8250, according to height of head and work required
to be performed by them ; the lowest head requiring
the highest priced Wheel} and the highest head the
least price.
For Cotton Gins, and other light machinery, the
price varies from 75 to 8;25.
For Cotton Factories, &c., no special data as to
price can be given, until furnished with particulars
as to head, and power in each instance required.
With tbe Grist Mill Wheel is furnished an
Iron Ring and Cylinder, an Iron Shaft, Couplings
and Gudgeons, Iron Gate and appendages, (including
Rack Pinion, tic.,) for operating same.
35 ith the VVheel for a Saw Mill is furnished
an Iron Shaft, Balance Crank and Wrist, with Iron
Gate and appendages ! !
The Shafts for all are turned off at bearings, the
Wheels fitted and keyed on same, and then turned
off, rendering it perfectly true and accurate in its
revolutions, and in every particular a highly and
completely finished Wheel; and from its simplicity,
durability, and finish, (£jT together with - what is
furnished in connection with the Wheel,) isthevery
cheapest Water heel ever offered to the Public !!
In a word, these Vi heels challenge comparison,
under any named forfeiture, with any other Patent
Wheels in use, and claim as a motive power to Le
entirely superior to any other motive power known.

DR. SHERWOOD’S
Vibrating Magnetic Machines*-^
BY RECENT improvements in these Machines,
their power is doubled in cases of the same size,
and the prices reduced tosl2and sl4 each; the sl2
sizes being greatly superior to the sl2 sizes of other
machines. They now run with more power and
smoothness, and are better adapted for magnetizing
patients than any other in use.
With regard to the diseases in which electro-mag
netism is most beneficial, it would seem from general
experience that it is most valuable in all complaints
. affecting principally the muscles and nervous system,
such as Rheumatism, Paralysis of any or all the
limbs, Curvatures of the Spine, Epilepsy, 'Fie
Douhureax, Shaking Palsy, and Headaches. In
Consumption, it is found of great value us an aid to
respiration, and in reducing the mucous disease of the
bronchial tubes. In various other chronic diseases,
involving great debility and loss of vital energy, it
has also proved of great service, by increasing muscu
lar power, and strengthening the lone of the system.
It is well known that Dr. Sherwood was the first to
introduce electro-magnetism into general medical use,
and that his machines have an established reputation
superior to any others for simplicity and power com

Tin: MAGNETIC HE M E DIES
OF THE LATE DR. SHERWOOD,
OF NEW YORK.
THE REMARKABLE medical remedies of
the late well known and justly eminent Henry
Hall Sherwood, M. D., consisting of a preparation of
magnetised Chloride of Gold, combined with various
other materials with great care and by a laborious
piocess, and of a Bituminous Plaster, have been test
ed by an extensive practice of twenty-five years con
tinuance, and may now justly be considered as more
successful than any known remedy in the treatment
of Consumption in all its early stages, and of ail Tu
berculous and Scrofulous diseases. For this class of
complaints they are now extensively adopted by phy
sicians in their own practice in various parts of the
country. They are prepared by ns under the direc
tion of the Executrix of the Estate of the late Doctor
Sherwood, to whom, by his will, his medical recipes
are entrusted, in the same manner in all respects as
heretofore, and are always accompanied by Dr. Sher
wood’s valuable medical treatise upon the Motive
Power of the Human System, a work which was the
result of many years of tabor and research, and which
shows in the clearest manner the principles upon
which the operation of his remedies is founded, and
their mode of cure. All orders should be addressed
to the subscribers, or to our Agent in Augusta.
