John Rum sey OuvKß,in the 31st year of his age, after a pro tracted illness of four months. A native of North Ca rolina, he emigrated to this State in early life, and settled in this county. He died a member of the Baptist Church, a: d a worthy member of the order of the °ons of Temperance, as a member of which he was beloved by all who knew him. He has left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. May this afflicting dispensation of God’s will be sanctified to the good of his relatives and friends. ***Thc Republic will please copy. In Wrightsboro’, on the morning of the 16th inst., William Thomas, eldest and only sen of Thomas 11, and Sarah F. White, aged one year and nearly five months. “ He looked a being of unearthly mould, A thing superior to the frowns of fate ; And never did ray wandering eyes behold A child so sweet.” COLUMBIA GRAND JURY PRE SENTMENTS. Tlie Grand Jurors, sworn, chosen and selected for the county of Columbia, and State of Georgia, for September Terra, ISSO, make the fol lowing presentments, to wit: We have examined the County Treasury, and find in the hands of the Treasurer Two Thousand and Forty-six Dollar#, We find the Books of the different offices of good materials, and kept in a neat manner; and recom mend the proper authority to furnish locks to the desks, for the safe keeping of the same. We recommend to the proper authorities to have the Patrol Law rigidly enforced, and particularly in the suppression of negro meetings contrary to law. We present as a grievance the keeping cf negroes on plantations, without any white person having them in charge, or living on the place. We present the Bridge at Harris’s Mill, across Green Brier Creek; The Bridge across Upton’s Creek, on tire Pishdam Road, and the Ford across Green Brier Creek, on the Washington Road, as being in very bad condition, and in need of imme diate repaii s. We present the Roads in general very bad, with few exceptions. In taking leave of hie Honor, Judge Starnes, we ender him onr thanks for his politeness anp attention o our body.
