And say, oh say, will those dear heart-flowars Still bloom for me in the Eden bowers? a, ». p. The Crops — The Wilkiesen (Miss.) Whig of the 11th inst. says. There coaid be do more favorable season for cotton picking than the present: every where the fields are white for the harvest. The sun is hot, the air dry, and the earth parched and hot, and the cotton bolls are burst ing open faster than the crop can be gathered. The story will soon be told ; in a few weeks the crop will be gathered, aud, as showy as it now looks, about a third of it will come up missing. It cannot now be denied that the cettoo crop is short. The Clinton Whig of the 9th inst. says: The picking season in this parish has thus far been marked by a succession of fine weath er, which has aided much in forwarding the work. Every planter has made the most of it, and the result is at least an average yield there* for. But this yield is not by any means a fair index of the quantity of cotton made. A cloudless sky and a scorching sun perform wonders in maturing the cotton boll, and the consequence will be an unprecedented short picking season. Inmost of the fields the Ist of November will tell the tale, and in none will there remain much cotton te pick after that period. Our planters knowing this, are net deceived as to the probable yield.
