Tjg* The Alchymist* of old sought to transmute every thing they touched into gold, but they were unsuccessful. Dr. Bliss has succeeded better than the Alchymists, in discovering a remedy by which disease is transmuted into heal h, and this remedy is his Cod Liver Oil Candy, which i<a the remedy of the age— having proved of vast service in all cases where it has been used for the cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenzas, and all affections of the Throat and Chest. To the astonishment of any one who ever took a drop of Cod Liver Oil, the Candy is perfectly palatable. But our friends who wish to purchase must beware cfnou terfeits. Prepared only by B. K. S, —An American ship was taken for Liverpool at 7-16 d, CHARLESTON, January 24. — Cotton. —Piices throughout the previous week were well maintained, 1 if we except a slight reduction which the lower qualities su:tained ; the market, however, was in active when we closed our inquiries, the transac tions of Thursday having been limited to sc me £OO bales. The market wore rather a qu ; et aspect on Friday and Saturday last, the transactions during these two days having been confined to 2400 boles, at about the quotations given in our report of the 17th inst. The accounts by the Franklin and Asia, which reached us about this time were not us lavor ableaswere anticipated, and buyers on Monday were claiming a concession; holders, however, would not come to terms, and we had another com paratively quiet day, the sales having been limited to 1200 bales. During Tuesday the market was rather active than otherwise, buyers having been drawn out in con£<quence of the disposition mani lested by some of/our fuelers to meet them, and up wards of 2300 bales changed hands. Prices were irregular, but it was manifest that the former class had the advantage. The transactions on Wednes day were again limited, and the concession was more apparent than cn the previous day. the market having settled down jc. decline. Yesterday the weather was unpropitious for out door business, it having rained nearly throughout the day, and it was generally thought that very little would be done in Cotton; about noon, however, one of our factors sold over 1000 bales, which swelled the transactions to 1700 bales as is said, at a greater reduction than is recorded above, amou nling in some instances loan additional jc.; bsthis, however, as it may, we made a cartful revision of our quotations, and would offer ihe snl joined rates, as a fair criterion of the value of this article althe close of -he wrek, although we are satisfied they will be thought by some rather high It will be seen on comparing them with our former quotations, that we have reduced allqnali'iea an Jc. The receipts of the week comprise 13,344 bale?, and the sales in the corresponding period foot up 8854 bales at the fo'lowing prices, viz ;—l6 bale* at 11 ; 47 at 11 { ; 342 at 12; 16 at 12 j ; 169 ur. 12 j; 9at 12}; 486 at 12*; 321 hi I2| ; 367 at U|; 57 at, 12 13-16: ?76 at 12| ; 1126 at 13 ; 68 at 13 1-16: 415 at 13J ; 205 ut 13 3-16; 1205 at I3j ; 10(1 at 135 16; 1751 at 13f ; 363 at 13 7-16; 793 at 13J ; 230 at 13J ; and 45 bales at I3fc. There has been more inquiry for the qualities classed under the head of Long Colton, than marked the business of ; the previous week, and former prices have been fully sustained if we except the very common quuli- j ties wh ch in some instances have gone off at rather I easier prices. The sales amount to 450 a 500 bales. Very inferior to common, 22 to 25; common to clean common Santces and Mains, 27 to 31 ; Middling Fine to Fine Sea Islands from 33 to 40c. and Up wards. To persons troubled with CORNS, this compound is particularly recom mended Please to r«ad the following commendatory letter from Judge Hughes, of Burke county : Elmore, Burke County, Dec. 22, 1850. Mr. J. E. Marshall,—Dear Sir : Incompliance with your request, I make this simple statement of facts. My boy Daniel stuck a thorn in his foot about the first of last June, the "thorn was exiracted. and no more thought of it for 15 or 20 days, bis foot then began to swell, and in a few days it was opened. It discharged a large quantity of matter. The dis- JJ I charge continued -‘or eight days, and then ceased. His foot then re-commenced swelling and extended up his leg, thigh, and hip, with violent pain. He then began to spit from his lungs matter similar to le thal discharged from the abscess on his foot. I then called in medical aid, and from (he remedies used, he was alternately better and worse for eight or ten weeks. During this time a large abscess formed upon the hip, the discharge was large, and as soon as it ceased, a general swelling of his leg, thigh and breast commenced, wb ch was very hard to the touch, and at times experienced much difficulty in swallowing. Medical ai i seamed of no further avail, and was discontinued, I then had recourse to your “Magical Fain Eradicator.” In forty-eight hours, from the time I commenced its use, his foot began to soften ; the swelling on his hip and breast übsided and I am pleased to say he is nets well. 1 again used your remedy in a case of Neuralgia, with great success, giving immediate relief. I have tried it also tor Tooth-Ache, with my youngest child with emire success. Prom the success I have had in the use of your ‘ Magical Pain Eradicator,” 1 have no hesitation in recommending it tolhe public. Tours truly, W. W. HUGHES. The above statements of the use of “Marshall's Magical Pain Eradicator” are know ne to be true. (Signed) ANGU JNE. None is genuine without the writ. ' *.ofJ. E* Mail-hill on each box.
