THIS PREPARATION is made as pure as powible. Its bitter taste, aad beneficial ef fects in diseases of the Liver, and diseases arising from an impure state of (he Blood, prove it to be the purest and most useful preparation of Sarsaparilla that is made. Those who have used the various preparations of Sarsaparilla will find, by the taste and effect, that there is more Sarsaparilla in one bottle of Dr. D.’s pro pa ration, than in half a dozen bottles as it is geo ally made. That it might be more particularly adapted to pro fessional use, nothing but the pure Saraapai.ila has been used, that for different diseases, physicians might combine or prescribe with it, such articles as they might consider moat appropriate in eases under their treatment. Its alterative and mildly purgative effect upon the bowels, make It not only a good substitute for Mer cury, but useful in removing all diseases arising from tbeimprudent use of Mercury. An|uU—An Editor's laipreuiou. The editor of the Knoxvffle,Tenn., “ Plebeian,’ ’ who recently spent i few days !n Augusta, gives his readers his impressions of the City, Its bu siness, <fec., is the so. lowing correspondence : Cirr or Avgusta—Her Trade and Pbob pbcts.—l reached Augusta on Sunday last, after a pleasant trip of 356 miles on railroad. The Georgia Road lean excellent work, and is well kept up, which reflects much credit to tee enter* prising company. It passes through a hillfi but not the lees deilghuui country, lor that. The State Road is in bad condition, for which the State deserves to be censored a little. She ought to sell the Road, or si least two thirds of the Mock, so as to stve individuals the control of the work, which would remedy the evil/ Bat this road, though, when compared with the roads connecting with it is every wav inferior, pays well, and land politicians are afraid to mount the question of a sale of the stock. The committee appointed by the Governor to look into the condi tion of the work, have, 1 understand, recommend ed an expenditure of several hundred thousand dollars, to put the road in complete gcar, andif this is done all evils will be for the time removed. In the end, and sooner or later, this state will have to dispense of apart or all of the stock of her roads, lor I am of opinion a State is not so capable of controlling, through her agents, a work of this kind, and making it profitable, as would boa company of private individuals. Augusta is a beautiful city—well laid out, and full of a thrifty, courteous and sociable people. The streets are very wide and cross each other at right angles. The business houses ate prin cipally confined to Broad street. This la said to be the widest street Wi any city in the Onion. It is 17(1 feet wide, and is lined on either side with a row of trees. Their thick foliage forms a de lightful shade in the summer months, and ren ders shopping with the ladies,a pleasant past time, while the loungers, (oi which there ate always a goodly number in a city ot any size) are pro tected an i encouraged in their sin cl laziness. But for real beauty and ornament. Green street takes the palm. It is not quite so wide as Broad street, butil much more tastefully decorated with ahade trees. In the centre, aud about twenty feet apart, two rows of trees extend the entire length of the street. In the space between these rows, grows a rich carpeting of grass. This has a fine effect, on either side of the street, snd corresponding with the central rows runs a row of shade trees. This street is as yet somewhat sparsely settled, but it mast soon be the centre of fashionable residences. The City Hail is a large and very fine building. The style of architecture is Viry rich, and re flects much credit to the designer. It is in the , centre of a beautiful park of large and beautiful shade trees. The building has been standing some fifteen years, and is a kind of pet of the citizens; and well it deserves to be, for it Is a monument of their city pride and public spirit, and would be an ornament to any city. 1 was rejoiced to see the manufactuiiog spirit so rife'fn Augtiiita. There are a number of manufactories, of different kinds, and the fact now commonly known here that the proprietors or corppanie*i are ail making and rapidly, Inde pendent and princely fortunes, in having a good efiect and is feeding the, manufacturing spirit of enterprise. 1 was rejoiced to see it, because 1 have long looked upon this as one of the beat and sorest means of seceding from the North, peaceably seceding ; and It would be a means, too, that even the extreme sticklers about the right of a state under extreme circumstances, to secede from the Union, could not properly stig matise as ‘‘revolutionary.*’ Give us commer cial independence, say I, snd we can soon starve the North into an acquiescence in the plain guaranties of the constitutional compact to os and ours. The churches of Augusta are in the main fine buildings, and reflect much credit to the respec tive denominations by whose beneficent dona tions they were raised. Thepubiic buildings are all creditable to the spirit and liberality of the citizens. The Georgia Medical College is a fine structure, and like all the public buildings, is sur rounded with a lawn or park, richly studded with fine and luxuriant shade trees, which serves double purpose of ornament and use. They have beside this several academies, male and fe male. On the whole Augusta is unsurpassed by very few cities of the South. It is seldom visi ted by those scourges so common in some of the cities of the South West. Its trade and popula tion are last increasing, and it bids fair one day to become to the South, what Philadelphia is to the North. Indeed, if Southerners would look to their own interest —would throw their trade into their own Atlantic cities, instead ol carrying it to the feet of the North, Augusta, Savannah and Charleston would ere many years be to them what Philadelphia, Boston and New York is now to the North. Would that the eyes of my countrymen of the South were opencu that they might see the immense necessity to them of a laudable and concerted effort alter the perfection of Commercial Independence. Augusta, Qa., Sepu 1, 1861. Tua Trade of AveuerA. —I have elsewhere referred to the city of Augusta In a general way, As my business here baa led me principally with the business men, I have thought a brief notice of some of the principal business bouses would not be inappropriate { but might serve as a guide to my Tennessee mercantile readers, who may determine to lay in their goods at this point. A large number of the merchants of the eastern portion of Tennessee already purchase a part or the whole of their goods heie, and 1 am fully convinced that more of them might make it to their interest to do so. 1 have had the pleas ure during my short stay in Augusta, to look through many of the wholesale establishments, and confess that 1 was agreeably surprised to see the extent and perfection to which most of them are carried. There is but veuy little use lor my Tennessee friends to go North to lay in their stocks of merchandise, for they will find Mi Augusta every thing they may desire, and on as good terms, I have no doubt, aa they could elsewhere.
