CHARLESTON, Feb. 20.— Cotton. —The market for seve ral days prior to our last publication, was in a languid con dition, but the week may be said to have ultimately closed upon an active market, in consequence of the slight con cession granted buyers on Thursday, as mentioned in our report. The present week opened with quite an active de mand for the article—the sales having reached about 4,000 bales —which was based upon the Pacific’s accounts, which, as is alleged, were in the possession of some of our buyers at an early hour, and as factors were not in the secret, the demand was freely met at prices corresponding with those current at the close of the preceding week. On Saturday ■he inquiry was renewed, but as purchasers were met at the very opening of the market with a demand for higher terras, the quotations were materially checked, as the sales were limited to some 1,100 bales. On Monday, however, buyers were in attendance in increased numbers, and took during the day nearly 2,200 bales, the market showing an increased degree of firmness. Tuesday was a very active day, the transactions having reached upwards of 3,500 • ■ales, establishing, at the close of business, a full 3*e. ad vance over the prices ruling prior to the arrival of the steamer’s advices. The market on Wednesday exhibited no new feature, about 2,000 bales having changed hands within the margin of these rates. A good demand also pre veiled yesterday, but the advancing tendency in prices did not s uit the views of buyers, and the market received a check in consequence of the stringent terms demanded by -elire -—sales 1,500 bales. The week may be said to have closed upon a firm market at the advance recorded above. We have raised our quotations, and the rates subjoined wiil give a true index to the value of this staple at the close of business. The receipts since our last foot up 12,715 bales, ajd the sales in the same time reach 14,462 bales at the fol lowin'-'’ prices, viz :—47 bales at 6>< ; 16 at C*» ; 58 at 510 at 07 < ; 1,031 at 7; 366 at 73*: 17 at 73-16; 610 at 7 3*'; u 66 at T :i b ; 653 at 7)4 ■ 142 at 7 9-16; 666 at 7% ; 1,732 at 7=4 ; 1,2(45 at V.i. 1 2,693 at 8; 36 at S 1-16; 2,000 at 8K ; "13 at 9 8-1 C : and 1,868 bales at Sjq'c. We quote ordinary to good ordinary 6;£ ®. 7%; middling 7% (5, 7?*: good middling 7>g ; middling fair 8 @ S3* ; fair 83* : and fully fair and choice —. The market for Long Cotton has lost somewhat of the animation that characterized the busi ness of the previous we«k, and the extreme prices then paid have barely been sustained. The sales amount to about 800 bales, without any decided change on previous quotations, which we subjoin, viz ; Inferior to common 2 > q£ 23 ; clean common to good San tees and Mains, 27 @ 80 ; middling fine to line Sea Islands, 83 @ 40c. and upwards. Rice. —There has been a good demand for all qualities of t thl> article, and the transactions of the week have fully ab sorbed the receipts, which comprise 3,132 tierces. The run however has been chiefly on the better qualities, and prices have rather stiffened in consequence of the competition among buyers, and the market may he said to have closed with prices showing rather an upward tendency. The transactions Rate been at extremes, ranging from s2?* *33* as in qua ky, but the bulk of (he sales have been ! made within the range of *3 @ *33*. These transactions do not include strictly choice or fancy brands. Corn. —The arrivals since.our last may be put down at 29,000 bushels, some 7000 of which had been sold to arrive, on terms which did we report would give no criterion of the present state of the market. A portion of the receipts were taken at 6" 71c., and as there was a balance remaining on hand when we closed our report, it remains to be seen whether these rates will be sustained. Flour. —Our market has at length been relieved bvjitjjl avrival of 2500 @ 2600 barrels Baltimore, a large ujflfJou of j uin di ha.- been sold—part to arrive and part x.■ I - at prices ranging from 6 (<t- *s’* barrel. We have heard of two lots, in all •tort bags, selling at 9 93aC.; in small lots, however, prices rule up to 1 dr. Molasses. —There has been some activity' in the market, w hict has been accompanied with a decided improvement in prices. Tliere was a sale in the early part of the week of 229 hhds. Cuba description, at 18c., and sales have been sub sequently made at prices ranging from 183* ISjkc.; and ihe market closed at IS?* 19c. A cargo of Trinidad, comprising 111 hhds. and 12 tierces, was sold at auction on ihe 17th inst., the hhds. bringing 19c. and the tierces 22c. About 200 bbls. New,Orleans hare been sold from store, in drt's, at prices ranging from 30 (b. 31c. *3 gallon; and there are parties who have refused to sell even at the latter price. l*o,auntie JAquors.— The transactions have been limited to -bout 300 barrels New Orleans Whiskey, which changed hands at 23 @ 233*c. The exports, for the same pe riod, amount to 22,018 hales Uplands and 700 bales Sea Is lands viz: To Liverpool, 6,625 bales Upland and 616 do Sea Islands' to Providence 600 bales Upland ; to Boston 1,772 do do- to ffew York 11,734 do Up. and 50 bales 8.1.; to Philadelphia t*Q~ do Up.; to Baltimore 417 do Up.; and to Charleston 203 bales Upland and 85 bales Sea Island—leav ins- on hand and on shipboard, not cleared, a stock of 60,693 bales Upland and 2,545 bai«s Sea Island at same time last The market opened on Friday with an active demand, and 2.093 bales changed hands during the day. About noon the telegraph announced the arrival of the Pacific, with favoia ble accounts from Liverp.>ol; and after the news was re ceived operations were in a great measure suspended. On Saturday, prices were firm and slightly in favor of sellers; sales 1,027 bahts On Monday, holders were able to obtain prices which showed an advance of I t S c. on the better qual - ities, and this advance has been maintained throughout the week. Sales on Monday 1,112, Tuesday 73i, Wednesday 512, and yesterday 47 s bales. The failure on Monday, for a large amount, of a firm which had been actively in the market, has prevented that regular course of business usual in our city, aud this will account in some measure for the small operations of the past three days. The advices per Canada came to baud on Wednesday afternoon; but as ano ther foreign steamer is now considered due, there is but lit tle disposition to operate until later advices are at hand. The news by- the Camtda being of the same tenor as that by the Pacific, had very little effect on the market. To tilt* Halt, tlu* Lanir, Hit* Sore. and Ihe Stiff Jointed : “ WE BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY !” ... nniiSH LIXIME.XT is one of tlie most perfect remedies ever offered to the afflicted. Its action upon the organization is 1 truly wonderful. Its volatile, penetrating, soothing and healing properties diffuse themselves to the very bones. It enters into the circulation of the blood —gives a new impulse to the whole nervous system to the very extremities of the fingers and toes —stimulates the absorbents and secretions, and thus ASSISTS NATURE to throw off and rid herself of any diseased action of nerves, muscles, chords or ligaments, making it equally applicable ot Sores of any kind, Rheumatism, PAINS IN EVERY PART OF THE BODY, from a diseased action of any of the structural portions of the system. WHILE IT IS PERFECTLY HARMLESS. To healthy flesh, skin or bone, it has the property of entering into combination and dissolving any of the organic tissues when they are diseased, or their vitality is destroyed. Possessing those peculiar powers, is the reason why it is EQUALLY EFFICACIOUS in so many different complaints. It acts upon scientific principles and FIXED LAWS OF THE CREATOR. From the hundreds of cares that are being almost daily reported to us from all parts of the country, we give a few below. SALT RHEUM. Mrs. Anna M. Pierce, wife of John Pierce, Plumber, on Market-street, had been afflicted for many years with this trou j blesorae and obstinate affection. The disease was confined, principally, to her hands, which would become very much in flamed and swollen, producing almost intolerable itching and burning. After a few days, this erysipelatous irritation would subside, wheu the skiu would peel off and dry in scales, and at every joint LARGE AND FRIGHTFUL CRACKS would penetrate nearly to the bone, extending half way around the fingers, and entirely across the palms of the hands. In consequence of this drying and contracting of the muscles, the hands were nearly closed, and the ends cf the fingers drawn towards the centre of the palms. In this awful condition, SHE SUFFERED FOR YEARS, trying every remedy that Doctors could prescribe, without any relief. A bottle of Mustang was brought into the house by a voung man who was using it for ; A PAIN IN IIIS BACK, i and was so much benefitted by it that he requested her to try it on her hands ; she did so, and by the use of a few bottles, SHE IS PERFECTLY CURED! Tire frightful crack? hare closed, the roughness and excoriation of the skin have disappeared, and her fingers and hands are as PLIABLE AND SOFT AS AN INFANTS. FOR HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS, There is nothing can he compared to the MUSTANG LINIMENT, in its speedy and permanent cure of Strains, Bruises, Cuts, Ga Is, Chafes, Scratches, Sweeney, Poll Evil, Fistula, Big Head, Spavin, Ring-bone, Wind-gall, Cracked Heel?, or any wound, stiffness, or unnatural enlargement of bone or muscle. A livery stable keeper of this city had a match horse that he prized very highly that had a large ring-bone on both legs. The horse was completely cured, and his limbs left per fectly smooth by the use of this Liniment. TO C OUNTRY MERCHANTS. Every store should he supplied with this valuable Liniment, as it pays a good profit and sells rapidly. CAUTION EXTRA- In consequence of the unprecedented popularity of the MEXICAN MLSTANO LINIMENT, many persons with more cu j pidity than brains, have been and will be tempted to put up worthless or pernicious mixtures, with efforts of imitation or similarity to this Liniment, and try to palm them off upon a credulous public, as possessing similar curative properties. HO NOT BE DECEIVED. None but the proprietors possess a knowledge of its composition (which is secured to them by the laws of the I mted ! States,) and when they reveal it, it shall be for the benefit of the afflicted, and not for the miscreants who would “FILCH FROM US OUR HOOD NAME” ._ . _ _ To fill their own pockets from our labors and exertions. The strongest proof of the value and excellence of a me. dierne, is the general approbation with which it is received * by a discerning and intelligent community. It is not our desire to trifle with the lives of our fellow beings, and in crease the stock of misery to which poor human nature is constantly liable; but in presenting this valuable medicine to the public, to adduce the most undoubted facts of its su perior excellence in the treatfnent and cure of those dis eases for which it is designed. This preparation has been but a short time before the people ; but short as that time has been, it has secured a most remarkable reputation. Persons who have tried it, tender their testimony in its praise ; and it is our unqualified opinion that it lias already saved hundreds of persons from a premature grave. It has cured oases that were considered hopeless. It has giv en relief to violent Coughs, Asthma, Whooping Cough, Measles, Bronchitis, Bleeding of the Lungs, and other af fections of the chest and lungs, in a shorter space of time and more safely and effectively than any other prepara lion with which we are acquainted, and we take pleasure in sta ting that we have the concurrent testimony of some of the most distinguished and talented medical men of the country, in behalf of this preparation. YVe have also received from some of the most intelligent Planters, Merchants, and Drug gists, the strongest proofs of its value and increasing popu larity. £| Subjoined are a few extracts from some of the lettc - ” which we have recently received.
