EARTHQUAKE AT ST. MICHAELS. An earthquake occurred at St. Michaels on the 10th April, which demolished forty houses. Charleston Market. Tuesday, May 25.—Cotton.—The sales to-day arc upwards of 1500 bales at 8 to cents. A free range of prices prevailed. From the CAarlestoti Courier —By Telegraph. Additional per Ilninbolt. Baltimore, May 24.—The steam ship British Queen from Liverpool for the Mediterranean put into Holyhead on Sunday the 9th inst. on tire, ard all efforts to extinguish the flames were fruitless. The British Government had recognized the Duke of Glucksburg as presumptive heir to the Danish throne. The British mail steam ship America ar rived at Liverpool on Sunday the 9th inst. The bullion in the Bank of England bad increased to twenty millions. The fetes were to take place on the 10th of May, in Paris, absorbed all attention. It was believed, however, that the Empire would not be proclaimed on the occasion. A steamer had left Toulon for Algiers with 300 prisoners. The King of Prussia had gone to hold a confer ence with the Emperor of .Russia, who had arrived at Warsaw. Baltimore, May 24.—1 n the Baltimore Marked to-day 1300 bbls of Elour were sold at $4.12. Red Wheat was worth 97 to 9S cents. Yellow Corn 61 to 62 cents —While 57 to 58 cents. In Now York Southern Flour was quoted at 4.87 to $4.50, and Corn at 62 cents. Tiie U. S, Senate was in Executive Session to day. The members of the House of Representa tives were occupied with reports. In the Supremo Court of the U. S. at Washing ton, to-day, the report as the Engineer Mr.*McAl pine, in the Wheeling Bridge ease, came up for confirmation. It was resisted by Secretary Stew art far the Company, and sustained by Mr. Camp bell for the City of Pittsburg. The Empire City’ arrived at New York to-day, witli 400 passengers and $270,000 in gold. Richmond, May 22.—Sami. W. Morgan, teller of the Exchange Bank, Petersburg, who was charged with defalcation in that institution, has been ac quitted. SPECIAL NOTICES.
