Little offering. CHARLESTON, Jane it.— Cotton. —This article was very much neglected during the preceding wee’s; and :n the ear!}' part thereof the transactions exhibited rather a down ward tendency in prices, which was accelerated by the ar rival su 'sequently of the Asia’s advices, and when we closed our inquiries preparatory to our repo: t of the 4th inst., some flight concession was made in fnvor of purchas ers, but no quotable decline can be said to have been cs- Übiisheu in prices. The Lair and Lully Fair qualities at the time were nominally valued at 1 "> 4 @ ly>*c. The posi ' tion of affairs was in no way improved at the close of busi ness on the first day of the week under review. On Satur day, however, the market opened with a good inquiry, which having been met by holders generally in a spirit of concession, proauced a-great degree of activity, and quite a heavy business was done at a reduction of K <& j*c. from the highest point of the previous week; but the de mand in a great measure ceased with the close of the day, as the market throughout Monday wore a quiet appearance. A re-action, however, took place on Tuesday, both in the demand ami the price of the article, in consequence of the favorable advices brought over by the Herman, which had just reached us, and the decline noticed above was fuily re covered, Wednesday was also comparatively an active day, and prices were further stimulated by the tenor of the America’s news just to hand. Yesterday a fair demand prevailed, and the operations established a decidedly higher range of figures. Me have revised our quotation to corres pond with the transactions of the last two days, and on comparison it will be seen that they are fully )*c. higher than those given incur review of the 4th inst. The sales of the week may be classed as follows, viz: Friday, 334 bales ; Saturday, 2454; Monday, 1175; Tuesday, 2100; Wednes day, l8ot); and Thursday, I*o0 —making an aggregate of nearly 10,000 bales, against the receipt in the same time of 760 S bales. The transactions were at extremes ranging from 21* @. $4. Com. —The importations this week comprise 16,000 sacks and 13,500 bushels. This heavy accession to the stock has depressed the market, and prices have suffered a reduction.
